So it seems this game is taking place in a timeline where Byleth never became a professor and continued being a mercenary, given the lack of sword of the creator and people calling them "Ashen Demon" and shit.

It also seems to be taking place after the academy but before the 5 year timeskip, some middle point. In the middle of the war. So we can assume the academy events carried out without Byleth somehow.

Arval's voice in the Japanese trailer is a lot more feminine is it not?
I am guessing the intent was it for it to be somewhat androgynous. The VA reminds me of a VA that was typically typecasted for somewhat boying or "princely" girls. All while still having a pretty distinctly female voice all the same.
