This. The only objective thing to say about it is the gameplay. It's bad. But everything else shines especially the music and story.

I unironically love Yiik. It's so shit and has so much poor writing that it becomes endearingly cheesy.

It's a product of someone trying their hardest, but not getting the acclaim they wanted. Yiik has more soul than most games.

Both games were announced the same time and even during Undertale's Kickstarter campaign no one knew it was going to be a success. So it wouldn't make sense if YIIK devs were trying to mimic them more than anything they tried to make something similar to Earthbound...
