I'm a terrible teacher but I would recommend learning good habits (proper alternate picking if you're using a pick, proper finger usage, proper posture) from the start because if you learn bad habits it's extremely difficult to break out of them. I have a few bad habits from being self taught so I would also do as says and just bite the bullet on some lessons. That's what I did for piano because I didn't want to fuck it up again
