I played Fortnite when it came out and it was fucking dogshit. Then I tried it again a few days ago after they got rid of the base building faggotry and I'm surprised how much they've improved it since launch. The art style is pure cancer and so is the player base but it's not bad for a free game. Hell of a lot better than Genshin Impact anyway, which actually does have faggots unironically playing and discussing it here.

It's the inevitable outcome as younger posters replace the old ones. Younger posts don't know a world before DLC and AAA destroyed everything and have nostalgia for these corporate monstrosities instead of the jank innovative shit boomers grew up with.

The other side of it is that gaming used to be inaccessible. Saying you played games in some circles was like admitting to having a cocaine addiction. Games were often fucking hard and required time and effort. The people who played games had to actually want to play games and care about them.

Modern games however never had to deal with any of that shit, it's socially acceptable now and they are used to games that basically play themselves. Over time the modern gamers replace the old ones despite most of them not really giving a shit about the medium and just wanting to be pandered to with easy, unchallenging 'new things'. It's the well known death of a hobby image on a large scale.

If you dispute this compare the quality of posting and level of general interest in actually discussing video games on this board to that of /vr/. The difference is huge.

Most major sites like Reddit, Yea Forums, Tumblr, Twitter, etc do have underlying cultures that differentiate them, but you're right that they're mostly the same, largely because the userbase has a lot of the same people. I can shit on Twitter all I like but I still have an account to follow artists.
Yea Forums just isn't some "underground" website anymore, it hasn't been for a decade. In fact ironically, it went from epic /i/nvasion raiders to a common raiding target for discords and smaller outside websites.
