I've always preferred his DMC3 moveset despite being more limited but 5Vergil is still pretty cool.

I admit that DMC3 Vergil has a higher skill ceiling than his DMC5 incarnation, but sometimes I just like to sit back and relax after a hard days work desu

Wasn't really talking about gameplay, just animations. DMC4/5 have a lot of flashy wild shit like the Force Edge + Yamato dash that I just don't think suits Vergil as well as the clean and concise animations in 3.
Also the way he stands up during Upper Slash in 3 vs staying crouched in 4/5. Little autistic details like that.

I think a lot of that can be chalked down to Capcom adopting some of the DmC moves into the 2015 SE of DMC4, which carried over into DMC5. And for the most part, I kinda agree.

The combat roll does feel feel a tad pedestrian for Vergil, though, and I'm glad they added Trick dodges and the *teleports behind u* flash step in 5.

The lock on walking animation makes me wonder if a walking Block mechanic could feasibly be implemented somehow without breaking the game balance completely

The biggest thing that bums me out about Vergil is why we don't get to fight against Nero in mission 20, it's super lame that we fight against Dante twice. It would have been really fun to fight against Devil Breakers and potential Busters.

The lock on walking animation is just the end of the moving sheathe animation, stuck in place.
Modders managed to make something pretty decent out of what was there but videos never truly do justice to how utterly scuffed it was to play that version of him.

It's an even bigger bummer to consider that the dev team even wanted to implement a Deadweight boss, but couldn't because of the unfortunate timing of the wuflu hysteria.

As someone who just got into the DMC series late last year, I'm glad that they at least made the effort to put Vergil in themselves, even if the modding community mostly congregates on that jew Nexus site instead of the barren InfernalWarks website dedicated to DMC modding for some reason.

Conceded. Take into account however that until DMC4 Dante was limited to a loadout system of one style, two melee weapons and two guns, while Vergil had three melee weapons and one "gun."
3SE Vergil had only one combo per weapon aside from the directional imputs.

Vergil hair ports suck ass (tried them all) unless it is non-Vergil hair. The only way to unfuck his hair is to just get yourself one of bangs mods. DMC3 styled one is my favorite so far.

Doppelganger is gay and Vergil should've had an actual addition to his moveset instead of just replacing DT(which is fucking evil btw) with an attack doubler that is either mindless or hyper autistic depending on how you play the game
Something better would have been a stance system for Yamato, maybe more weapons that could be dual wielded with it

Something about the stylized hair that the PS2's tech required them to do just looked amazing, more realistic hair just never worked for me, and in 5 it sucks for everyone except Nero, who just has an entirely new generic haircut

Dante's haircut is alright for realistic style.
Ironically, Vergil's default hair in 5 fits Dante due to his head shape far more than it does with Vergil. Which is the biggest issue with his hair in 5. It doesn't flatter his head shape at all. Mere bangs add mods tend to do the trick for Vergil in 5. Although, honestly, they should've just went with new haircut for him in general. Perhaps haircut similar to his iconic one, or go with long slicked back hair like in one of his concept arts, or something that would compliment realistic style better.

I tried enabling contact shadows in the game's ini file and there's definitely a noticeable improvement in the game's visuals; character faces especially look closer to what they look like in cutscenes. Are there any other settings to tweak in the game's folder?

Presumably it's a "hidden" option because of potential performance burden.
I'll try it out on my GT 1030 tomorrow and see if there's any difference.
Funny that consoles get lametracing when they don't get contact shadows as an accessible option
