I figured they were slowly introducing more characters from the Sonic franchise in each movie, like we're gonna get Shadow, and probably Amy, maybe Cream and Rogue? It's much more likely to be Shadow and Amy, with Metal Sonic being either teased or turned into a joke character that jobs instantly. (So you know, not much different than the games then.) Yes, I want to coom to the potential deluge of new Rouge porn too, but think about it objectively for a second here: Rouge is literally only in SA2 for sex appeal, and Sonic Team has been pretty transparent about this. She may have developed into a more interesting character later but in SA2 she hardly even does anything. She's basically just there to serve as a foil to Knuckles, deliver some exposition about Shadow, and... basically nothing that couldn't easily be done by another character or written out entirely. You know I'm right. She's not quite as superfluous as Amy, but she's a total third wheel to the Dark story.

And THAT's making the (pretty big) assumption that the third movie will even follow SA2's that closely, which I strongly suspect that it won't. The movies have already taken a lot of liberties with the lore and story of the games, so I don't see why they would suddenly adapt SA2 more faithfully out of nowhere. Which brings me back to what the other user was pointing out: They're not going to introduce more than two characters at most. Doing so will very quickly run the risk of bloating the movie and turning things into another Spider-Man 3 scenario where they try and cram in as much shit as they can get away with and it becomes a disjointed mess. No, if they're smart, they'll keep the story a tight, focused, light adaptation of SA2, with another dumb human subplot no one but boomer reviewers cares about. Trying to do a one to one adaption of SA2 would be an unmitigated disaster, and they know it.
