Zero times, I had already fought the Caelid one so I knew how he worked.
Then on my second character I rushed the Caelid one thinking that he would be an easy kill and he pulled a jump attack out of his ass that I had never seen before and killed me.

I think once and I found the larger enemies to be the most "souls" of the bosses in this game because of their slower, heavier hits with obvious telegraphing and generally bigger health bars.

Was looking around for the cave in that area and suddenly got a load of runes and a bunch of dragon hearts. Turned around to see him fading away, and a land octopus taunt his ass.

i find the magma worm to be poorly designed. Hes like a worse version of the gaping dragon from DaS

The one in the cave at the top of the cliffside dungeon/the one that gives you the achievement was a one attempt kill. For some reason it took me an hour to kill the one at the lava lake on the mountain a little while later though.

I'd say he's better, he has a few attacks that can really hurt if you aren't careful.
Gaping is literally "I got stuck in his legs" the boss. For an enemy who's entire upper torso should be a hurt box, he's very allergic to simply trying to eat you.

the lava is much more annoying as a mechanic. at least with the gaping dragon you can follow behind him as he runs himself into a wall. With the magma worms you just sit at a safespot for how many dozens of secons waiting for the magma worm to stop vomiting

Most people never die to bosses like this because they're optional, people will just run past them and proceed to gloat on the internet. Magma Wyrm is nearly impossible because the ground is filled with lava and he spits more lava all the while hitting you or charging at you.
