did you see what happened to gears when rod fergusson was given control of the franchise in 4&5? the horrendous state of gears 5's launch was all that fat faggots fault, and he had been around since gow1. that alone is enough to show cliffy had a major impact on the original trilogy in terms of quality

GoW1 was a fun adventure game. It was very gritty in a fun way. GoW2 was even better but it's lost media at this point. GoW3 is still the best MP of them all.

GoW4 was boring shit and GEARS 5 is forgettable.

Halo was the first game to hit hollywood blockbuster type of numbers. It was also the first console FPS with lan gaming that made it popular early on. Before that, Bungie was a loved mac only dev. Big fanbase on a platform that didn't get much gaming love. Microsoft swept them away (like everything else), but there was probably some in built hype ironically from an Apple crowd. They weren't shills. They hated MS, but loved Bungie. Then it built from there with the Xbox launch with many more fans.

GOW 1 and 2 were good games, GOW 3 was decent
after that it just sucks

I'm replaying it right now. I actually like the aesthetics of the game, but maybe it has to do with nostalgia to a certain extent. The gameplay is still solid even if it's a bad kind of linear. The graphics are incredible though, it came out in 2005 and it still has great textures and models, apart from the buildings in the distance which show the age

I played the first one a few months ago and was so bored that it took me 5 sitting to finish it. I kept thinking that it felt like a squad tactical shooter except with all but the most basic commands stripped out. The arena design lean too far into being obvious video game levels and I could never believe for a moment that the setting was genuine. The tactics game actually fixed my biggest issues with the gameplay so maybe they did learn their lesson in 2/3/4/5
