Wrong. Twinking is done by those that tried PVP at late game and quickly realized they're shit at it so the only way they'd be able to actually win is to find a way to created a busted starting level character to invade first time players and stack the odds as much in their favor as possible.

The good old days of invading the undead parish with a dragon head and +15 weapon.

Rogier's rapier is a +8 weapon, so you can be matched with weapons from +5 (8-3) to +12 (8+4).

you can still do that in ER, in fact twinking is still powerful.
Get 4 talisman slots, get w/e spells/gear you need and go invade in stormveil and 1 shot noobs if you want.

It rewarded nothing. You just mule items over to your invasion character. People still do this with twink protection, I've fought 3 dudes with double madness spears, and invaders & blues will obviously be very familiar with the Limgrave Rivers of Blood build.

Step 1: Remove being able to drop weapons, talismans, and armor if there is another player in the world you're in right now
Step 2: Match invading to rune level, and scale weapon levels down to match. This rewards low level players for making it to the lategame and getting those weapons while keeping it fair for hosts
Step 3: Turn the Recusant spirits' color to black. Make the objective of Bloody Fingers to eliminate another player, not necessarily just the host (Bloody Fingers spill blood for Mohg and the Formless Mother). Recusants' objective is still to eliminate the host (To rebel against the Erdtree).

Remove the ability to drop weapons at all. There's no point to this functionality. The only thing that makes sense to drop is poison healing during co-op, and removing even that would not be a loss. Leaving items on the ground is a carryover from the Demon's Souls inventory weight limit that's been moved from game to game and has little reason to exist outside of twinking.

I don't get why they can't just scale your upgrade level to whatever the host has so you would never get any wild damage imbalances. They could even do it with Rune/Soul Level too and just reduce your stats based on the order in which you levelled them. This would solve all matchmaking problems and just make it take a little longer to load in.

based, fuck duelfags. Most of my best memories of DS1 were from random wacky-ass invasions, and they're a big reason why I found that game so replayable. I hate that """invasions""" have been neutered so hard, having to manually invite people to invade your world totally removes the fun from it.

When I played Dark Souls for the first time it was the "Prepare to Die" edition. I knew nothing about it really. I knew about invasions and PvP, but it didn't occur to me that people could stay low-level, run into high-level areas to kill a mob for dope gear, and then remain low level with twink'd up items.

It made invasions interesting because you couldn't predict the level of threat you would encounter. Even then gear was just one aspect, but there are equal odds you could run into somebody playing deprived who is so fucking good at the game, they kill you with their bare fists. Or it could be somebody decked out in chaos gear. Or it could be somebody with an average build at your own level. There was no way to know, and the uncertainty of the added some fear and excitement to encounters.
Unfortunate to hear they've removed the fear and threat of uncertainty, and replaced it with the comfort of fairness and balance for crybaby faggots who shouldn't be playing the game anyways.

When I invade I have to deal with someone 20 levels higher than me who summoned 2 friends to help him. So I'm level 20 using a +3 weapon and my opponent is level 40 using a +5 weapon with 2 level 50 phantoms helping him with +9 weapons.
I just feel bad because even when people invade me I know I automatically win.

why are level differences even a thing in pvp?
why not scale both players to make it competitive?

So I guess the game mechanics are already pointless by your logic.
