how do I use this to make it run through my game's lore so it can extrapolate into paths i never considered and give me new insights?

My lore isnt a long form story but a collection of notes and event time lines so when I try to do that it kinda just goes into boilerplate stories cause there's not enough context.

It is pretty much the only decent and easily accessible option at this point. It doesn't even try to present itself as a game, but as a writing assistance tool, which is why you need to at least understand basic creative writing in order to get something from it.
I don't see it as a bad thing because it is probably one of the rare cases where you can jerk off and build a skill at the same time.

I hate the idea of paying but I might take the credit card bullet for just 1 month, what I dislike about their free trial is not that it's short but that there's some features missing and there's not really another way to brute-force it besides just paying, at least so far we know the money isn't going towards retards so there's that, no one else gives you a better free trial than them in the first place if you're just getting around to learning how it works.

koboldAI has a number of models, some of which could be better than griffon. looks like they're working on finetuned 13b models and those should be strictly superior when they release.

That is a hard part of AI writing for characters with non-humanoid features. You can't just use a negative way and say that Lamias don't have legs because the AI will clutch onto that negative and turn it into a positive which means your Lamia suddenly has legs.

try "apodous" and "apodal". AIs get trained on a fat stack of medical and scientific literature so you can hammer it with obscure terms

or if you're using novelai you can just ban "leg", "foot", "feet" etc

I can't get novelAI's lorebook features to work well. In concept its probably the most interesting thing about it to me, but the AI botches or misconstrues the explanations I put in.
Its almost funny in a way, its like me feeding lines to a actor and then watching the actor mess up the lines. I think I just need to learn how to use it well or something

I tried to do a scp-esque log entry type thing and it did pretty well following the tone and structure.
The peak of that session was probably the AI inserting a non-log entry style passage after something impactful in the story happened to the main character, then going right back to the tone and structure of the logs. I don't think anything as cool has happened since then

Nah. Formats have their place, but the general conclusion is that pure prose is almost always the best way to do lorebooks.

I create a throw away account every now and then to abuse the 50 actions free trial. Tried to do a legit playthrough, but I always ended up as a rapist or I had an idea of where I wanted the story to go, but the AI wouldn't take me there, so I started to only use it for masturbating. AID is still free, but nowhere near as cool.
