No one is ever able to come up with an actual substantial counter as to what metroidvania actually does what hollow knight does better. The closest thing that comes to HKs level is ori. If you want to count it (I wouldn't) you could say La-Maluna too

Actual boomers just can't handle the fact that HK easily stands toe to toe with the best entries in its genre, and even surpasses them in some important aspects. It's really telling that almost all arguing against it is just attempts to dismiss it outright by calling it reddit or zoomer shit or insulting subjective stuff like the art style or whatever.

Path of Pain is pretty accessible for most normal people with that bee charm. The only true autism bait in the game is the final couple pantheons, and maybe some of the delicate flower options.
