I will say that it might be a case of him looking at a very specific version of the character that has aesthetics that aren't actually set in stone, or traits that are extremely up to interpretation (if a character transforms into an animal, does that mean the character has animal ears or no?). Because he DID successfully guess another character I tried from the same series, first try, but he can't for the life of him guess the other one.
