Really solid game if you don't mind the janky and unappealing UX in the intro. The game really picks up when you get into it, and argueably has some of the best Action RPG combat ever made. I think its handily more engaging combat than Soulslikes, though its level design, story beats, and overall flow make it hard to see.
Also the full mage class has easilly the best spells ever put into an RPG don't even @ me.

The story isn't bad per say, its just not presented well. Things just kind of happen, the world is bland and unappealing until later segments (like the tower). Gran Soren has its charm, but its definitely one of the weaker cities ever designed.
Its also relatively easy to get lost/gate yourself from things or just not know that an area exists at all. Also compared to soulslikes there's like... none of the spectacle.

There is, a lot of locations get totally new enemies, and the Drakes are fun to kill. You also eventually get a re-match against the Hydra from the beginning of the game underneath the Shadowfort, but he doesn't show up until you get the quest for it. Also a re-match against the Cocatrice in Soulflayer Canyon.

It was a game that got cut back due to restraints. The story is interesting, but does take abit before it ramps into anything other than basic adventuring. Don't know what he means by level design though, I think the "levels" are fine

it is gay. Unfortunately devs don't just have the option to ignore shit like that, unless you're FromSoft and have a mega cult following, and even then you're at the whims of kadokawa's limp cock and get paid pennies for insane work.
However its no worse of a catch all term then 'Gameplay' or 'Level Design', hell even 'Combat', there's an insane amount of nuance in each and they all have dozens of dimensions.
