Look at your own image for the answer. It was absolutely magical. Leveling in classic WoW is still one of the best gaming experiences out there. No MMO will ever top it.
Part of the magic comes from the moment in time, where people played games like this differently.
A bit of both.
The world is truly impressive.. for the most part.
But it's not some legendary masterwork by modern standards. What sets it apart is that it was truly amazing in 2004.
Back then, the developers gave a shit, and the community was much better.
It had soul, atmosphere, mystery. Things werent spoonfed to you. Not every questions had their answers. The world, even though it was at its smallest, felt at its biggest.
Classic WoW was truly amazing. But good things dont last.
It was the closest thing to going on an actual adventure any of us will ever experience in our lives.
there was, it evolved out of it over the years following WotLK though. Journeying from zone to zone on foot was fucking magical in itself, but the places and sounds you'd encounter along the way kept the whole thing together.
>No MMO will ever top it.
Should we tell him?
I played that game at max level at various stages. Mostly at the end of ARR, Heavensward, and Shadowbringers. I liked a lot of it, but it had far too many issues to maintain my interest. The combat system in particular feels terrible to play with after coming from the far more fluid and faster WoW. Even with OGCDs in play, it's much slower. The animation locking is also very annoying. I also found the lack of proc-heavy jobs annoying, especially because the only one I kind of liked was RDM but casting is not fun to me, especially in that game with the insane amount of slide casting.
WoW could learn from it with trials and extremes. That is really good content that's fun to just queue for every now and then. It also has much better social/casual stuff, but that's about it.
bump
Wow sucks.
There is.
The content is amazing but the game feels like shit. It's like inverted WoW.
It was the community and people. The game itself was ass. Guild Wars mogged WoW in terms of gameplay, story, and graphics when it came out.
>sharing images of the magic world of Azeroth on a board frequented by pedophiles, schizophrenics, racists, and BPDs
Try to keep it on the downlow huh
osrs is and was always better than wow. even back in the day.
Unironically this
Most people had never played an open world nor a MMO
Of course it was epic coming from shit like Tomb Raider and Mario Bros....
Mostly the community.
Back then info was harder to come by and you relied on other people to help you, and in turn you helped them. You used to make a list of friends and faggots back in the day.
WHERE MANKRIK WIFE?!?!?
Some fun things happened in Classic apparently though, like in that guy's video where he tries to become Scarab Lord, Barney or something. Too bad he trooned out.
Classic wow had soul, genuine love for gamers, and want to make a fun game.
This
And OSRS was always a poor faggot Jr. High kid's Ultima Online.
No, it really was magical. It was the perfect storm though. The internet wasn't yet as "normalized", game itself was comfy, it was the first MMO experience for many and the people playing it made it magical. It wasn't only the game itself, it was everything combined.
This. The game itself is fine/whatever but the community is everything and having to interact with so many players made the game fun. That's why some private servers for vanilla is fun because the community can be so good (chinese bots aside) and also why retail Classic Wow was terrible. The community when it launched was terrible and never got better, it was people that were playing it like a single player game and the world was dead. This is why a lot of other MMOs are fucking garbage btw, no attempt to foster a community or player interaction that is meaningful.
The difference between it and newer wow / other MMOs is that the focus truly was on the WORLD.
There was no conveniences, everything had to be done by venturing out ON FOOT (or on slow ass mounts) whether that be traveling to a dungeon, going to find rare materials, or simply making your way to another city / area for quests and trading. It meant you felt like a real inhabitant living a life in the world.
Also little immersive touches like enemy faction speaking different languages.
xiv is just nu-wow with more cutscenes.
It's a mix, as a game its one of the best MMOs but the magic of it was the community that will never ever be replicated ever again. You genuinely had to be there to understand.
Does it really deserve the hate?
For destroying the comfy af aesthetic and feel of old azeroth for a throwaway more noob friendly leveling experience ? Yep; and it deserves even more than it get's.
I unironically liked the underwater stuff, naga were always one of my favorite races.
A lot of the shit that people hate with modern WoW came into focus in Cata
The rework of old zones was pretty terrible. However, the harder dungeons and raids were neat
This and the fact that the world was truly BEAUTIFUL and ran great even on an average PC.
Shit like skyrim is just a generated retarded map. every inch of the WOW map/world was hand made, made sense, and was beautiful... just traveling around was great
my best friend met a wife in the game and they had children
many people found relationships... kinda magical
I met a girl in a different game but she left me
I wish I knew then what a unique moment in time that was
>another wowbuck cope thread
Can you faggots just PLEASE play any other videogame?
i love xiv, but it's world/exploration is the worst part of it, partly because of design, and partly because of instanced locations. Only the ShB zones and some of the EW are interesting/enjoyable to explore.
>Can you faggots just PLEASE play any other videogame?
Trust me, I've tried several times.
It was the right thing at the right time. It was ideal for taking literal millions of uninitiated retards on a (rather unfortunately) life defining ride.
XIV has the same problem every other game in the genre has, it's all just one big single-player assembly line to push players into an end-game that consists almost entirely of sitting in queue to get your turn in a hallway dragon killing simulator with 20 retards that might as well just be bots.
I miss it
muh nostalgia is a cop out
The music provided such an excellent atmosphere, In tandem with the art, the world they've built, it locked in a very great experience and place you can just soak in. At least for me, that's what I liked about it
I played GW before WoW and I still to do this day think its limited action bar is superior to talent trees in allowing customization and different playstyles within the same class.
Name one MMO with "good endgame".
Honestly WoW has the best PvE end game content of any MMO I've played.
no it didn't, stop coping gwfag
I agree, the limit of the world not feeling very interconnected, doesnt let me feel the world I've traveled in. Heck, I can't even travel between upper and lower limsa without having to hit a transitional space.
Also their music is less impressive from zone to zone
i never played wow and it looks soulful
FFXI during its 75cap era
End game content has zones that are capped from 40 up to 75
the game starts at level 10-12 rather than most MMOs having "the real game" start at end game.
Those fucking rings in the level 20 instance can be used at end game, and a pair of level 7 boots can still be slotted at 75
>real game
What a wack perspective. Questing and lvlings is the main game. The most main part of the game.
Come home...
youtube.com
I agree with you but most people see the leveling as a tedious chore to overcome so they can start playing "the real game" aka logging out until its time to do their weekly raid
Ultima Online fucked up by not becoming browser based.
Is WotLK considered the cut off for 'classic WoW'?
Personally I would say yes with the caveat that the it ended the moment Arthas got gangbanged by 40 adventurers
For now. Unless they fix everything they cucked in wod, cata will be a hard cutoff.
Wotlk
>40
25
>ruined the world with a shitty rework
>ruined classes
>ruined the gameplay with a focus on raiding
>ruined worgen
Yes
Cata is when the dev team became disillusioned with the game as well
the magic was (You), user.
and the magic is long gone. they killed it because they hate you and everything you represent.
It's the last of what the original staff probably had in mind when they started making the game. Maybe a smattering of stuff in Cataclysm like Grim Batol.
And uldum
White man with children who owns property here. I still play world of warcraft. Seethe about it.
Really my brain says 40 + 1 kill stealing exposition NPC
Darnasus blew my fucking mind
>Also their music is less impressive from zone to zone
unironically the nail in the coffin for a lot of ARR and StB zones.
no one cares boomer
No doubt about it that it was a great work of art, although it's impossible to separate it from the time as people have already said.
Personally I felt more involved in the virtual world of Ultima Online, but WoW had the benefit of 3D, vastly superior hardware and a tremendously great art direction.
I kind of wish I gave Alliance a try when I see images like this, but Horde stuff satisfied me at the time.
I mean cmon, how can you look at that picture and say it wasn't anything but magical?
If you think about it, there wasn't any other game where you could play in a big open world that wasn't just diverse but rememberable too.
I bet theres a lot of people here that have different favourite zones. Mine would be Westfall, others duskwood, or perhaps even silvermoon.
Dangerously based.
Cata was the last good expansion and everyone knows it
There are literally people obsesed with me and everything i represent so much they ruin our games. They hate games, they hate gamers. They clearly care enough to dedicate themselves. You clearly care enough to (you) me, im not even a boomer. And i care. Suck shit nigger.
i'm sure that's true, positively.
many people are ignorant and do things against their own interest.
>no streamers
>no youtooobers
>everyone was a noob
>no discord
>no parasocial zoomer shit
>developers gave a shit
>modern gaming industry (((practices))) not there yet
>no trannies, roasties, or niggers shitting blizzard or the game itself up
>game actually denies you shit instead of handing it to you or allowing you to pay to skip it—opposite of modern skinnerbox gaming
>progressive for its time
Ahem.
>he implies on Yea Forums
I never play any video games ever. Waste of time.
>There are literally people obsesed with me
What?
>and everything i represent
Take your fucking meds.
I enjoyed Legion. Pandaria had fun exploration though.
>dishonest troon
>inb4 NTA
Read the chain or keep your point you dickless chud.
>they killed it because they hate you and everything you represent.
