Me not buying one

Its never going to reach the normie sphere like switch but I think its still going to do pretty well. I sold a few hats and got one ordered.

>Its never going to reach the normie sphere like switch

It won't if Valve doesn't sell it in retail stores.

Meds

I just got mine.
I like it, but I lost the fan lottery. Its not too bad, but it irks me when the rest of the house is silent that there exist ones with a quieter fan.

It's okay, Tim. We collect the free games too. Thanks for paying devs on our behalf

Based

Why are you so obessesed with Tim even if nobody mentioned him or his store?

I wonder who could be behind this post.

Yeah user Tim and Epic shills lurk Yea Forums 24/7 to shitpost against your beloved company instead of shilling their own products on the board.
It's impossible to hate Valve or their products, everyone that does that has to be a paid shill working on a Saturday night

Test

>16GB of ram
>RDNA 2 (For its announcement and planned release. And it's great for $400 even now.)
>FSR built in with 2.0 support coming
>Top usb c port
>Switch grip inspired design
>Track pads, unironically
>No need to double dip games
>Trying to break down the Windows dominance on gaming

You could probably buy the blue label fan on eBay or RMA it if you want. The black label fan from Delta is the shitty fan you got.

Nothing, as competitors are making a better version in a tenth of the time Valve takes to make their "magnum opus."

Attached: Product_Showcase_ID_53864.jpg (1200x803, 178.38K)

Why do people hate the Epic store? As a developer, the extra money I get per sale and potential money for exclusivity deals are godsends, especially for smaller studios.

It's a great deal if your game is wildly unfinished (Hades, Darkest Dungeon 2) and it needs the extra cook-time, or if you're really THAT pessimistic about your game's chances elsewhere and want the guaranteed sales.

Not with those fucking sticks and chiclet buttons it's not, post a video of you playing on the thing instead of the same Product Showcase ID image and random emulation screenshots

>Switch grip inspired design
imo it looks more like a Wii U gamepad. It's about as chunky and ergonomic as one.

>'WiiU gamepad was bad' meme

No, I mean what I said about the gamepad as good. I just think saying "Switch GRIP" is inaccurate, because in my opinion an out of the box Switch isn't as comfortable to hold as a Wii U. I think maybe "Switch inspired" or "Switch familiar design" might work better at describing what user is talking about.

>As a developer
Most people who are going to use epic aren't developers. We're customers, but even then the only reason to use EGS in that scenario is to get free games and bullshit exclusives. The rest of it is total garbage when in comparison to Steam's UI and features. The problem with it is that it foremost serves the corporations using it, not the consumers.

Haven't seen any listings for a fan for it - if I ever do an SSD upgrade I'd look into it more.
But if I decide now it really bugs me enough, I'd probably just return it instead of going through that hassle, use the money to help buy a new phone this year instead.

Would consider making a profit on eBay for it, but I'd have too much anxiety over the possibility of getting scammed by the buyer.

>Why do people hate the Epic store?
The exclusivity deals, lack of features and chinese spyware. Mainly the exclusivity deals though.

>the extra money I get per sale and potential money for exclusivity deals are godsends
I hope its enough because I will never buy your game.

another failed game console, what's there to be surprised about?

Cope, Timmy

Bad take. Its already one of the best selling open platform PCs of the modern era.
It may ultimately get up there with personal computers from back in the day like the Commodore 64.

I can see the upside from the developer point of view with the lower cut but there are practically no upsides for using the Epic Game Store as a customer. All the features are behind Steam in terms of even reaching parity, let alone acceptable resource usage and efficiency. The real important thing is lack of trying to even build a community. It's as sterile as going to a store in an outlet. The only real reason to use it is for the free games and the exclusives if it means anything to you.

Not according to the picture of prototypes and how the product evolved over time which I can't find a high resolution version of at the moment. I would say the Switch did have influences on some of those prototypes but I doubt anything with regards to its basic design and philosophy wasn't there from the beginning with how much it was really a screen with a Steam Controller on it.

But they will. Pre-Order hype will get developer support and allow Valve the time to fix the biggest bugs and know which games are most relevant. Then once production ramps up, retail will get their 64gb models perhaps with cost cutting (depending on if the price goes down on storage by then).. it's quite smart.

Won't iFixit have replacement parts for it soon? You could probably buy it there.

Now imagine Valve makes a cheaper console only version with the same guts as the deck, but with a swappable hard drive in a relatively tiny form factor. You can use your PS5 or Xbox or switch controllers, so it doesn't have to come with one, but you could also buy a Steam Controller 2.0 whatever that might be.

This is probably coming in the future, albeit as a single board PC aimed at developers, for stuff like setting up an automated validation testing system. Of course being Valve they'll just sell it direct to users, but don't expect to see it till they've ramped up supply of the chips enough to meet pre-order demand. Also because it will be developer hardware, expect it to be sold for a bit more than the lowest end Deck.

Steam Controller 2 has been one of the worst kept secrets as well, expect to see it around the time Valve launches the official dock for the Deck.

I just dont get it. You have to already have a gaming pc basically for the steamdeck to make even a little bit of sense to buy but then why even buy the fucking thing in the first place? Just play pc games at home. Do you really need to spend 500 dollars on a device so you can play pc games out in public where people will obviously think you're mentally handicapped for using it in public. Gamers are getting to a point where they will drop 500 dollars on something just so they can consume games 24/7.

Attached: steam deck buyer.png (640x480, 347.9K)

A good chunk of the Steam user base are on old Windows machines that are no longer supported by Microsoft and that have hardware that is less capable than the Deck.
Another chunk are on Apple systems where the OS has become actively hostile to modern PC gaming by refusing to support standard APIs.

Deck is a nice device not just to serve as a point of entry to Steam, but to allow users to keep using Steam.

can i install everything i need to emulate on the steam deck base OS? and software to watch movies shows etc?

The problem is twofold. One, Apple etc are switching to ARM based chips and more and more closed ecosystems. People are also lazy and want to buy the latest console system. Valve sees both as a loss of customers so might as well use Linux, which aside from games and photoshop worked quite well for most things, and even with games it was inevitable that Linux would eventually catch up. Valve just had to speed up that process a little bit and throw a bit of money around.

It's Linux, you can do whatever. And some users have made emulation brainlet-proof: youtube.com/watch?v=5upaSxC1wTg

:|
if your PC is old and you have minimum 530 DOLLARS to spare(Yeah I know the 64gb one is only 400 dollars but 64 gb isnt enough for most modern games) Then why not just fucking BUY A NEW PC. Which gives you more bang for your buck. Instead of just a gaming machine you also have all the other entertainment that comes with owning a pc and using the internet.

>Then why not just fucking BUY A NEW PC.
Because the cost of a new PC when a reasonable graphics card is considered, is ridiculous right now because of crypto miners etc.

then fucking wait. You don't even know if the steam deck will do well enough for valve to abandon it. You don't even know if the fucking thing wont fall apart in the next few years. It makes much more sense to just wait and then buy a new pc which will last you much longer than spending the same amount of money now which may get completely dropped by valve.

Its a fun little emulation machine, that's what I'm using mine for.
Also good for anyone who regularly travels by plane and really any usage case the Switch in portable mode falls under.

Why should I? My steam deck is already being shipped. It will play the majority of games I own, and by buying it, it will encourage developers whose games are not working, to get it working. Heck Valve is making it MUCH easier to port games than anyone else has ever bothered to. Why would I care about the next few years? I can game on it now. In a few years they'll have the Steam Deck 2.0. Why buy a switch when the switch pro will be out in a few years? At least with Valve I don't have to pay for my games again.

this nigga is gonna spend. 530 dollars for ps1 games :|
Why not just buy a cheap laptop at that point. Then you dont look like a sperg out in public

PS1 emulation would be better on a MiSTer FPGA, but certainly less portable. But he never said which system he was emulating. It really doesn't matter though.

I may end up getting one of these just for text adventure games and point n clicks that require text entry. I can't deal with just having a touch screen keyboard.

>Why should I? My steam deck is already being shipped. It will play the majority of games I own.
Yeah but why??????? Do you seriously plan to use this thing at the park or at a restaurant or something like a retard. Also you can't play multiplayer games really unless you A stay at home B use whatever wifi the building your in has. Spend your money how you want man, i mean its not my cash you're burning but jesus 530 dollars for a pc which you probably already own is alot.
>Why would I care about the next few years?
because you are going to be alive then? Do you really want to spend 500 dollars every few year for a new device if they even make another one.

The joystick on its own

it's for me

Seems like their only problem is not building them fast enough.

I'd probably just buy a small, cheap laptop if that's what you're after.

>Wii U gamepad
>not ergonomic
I own two Wii U's and that alone makes me automatically superior to a dumb virgin like you

>Do you seriously plan to use this thing at the park or at a restaurant or something like a retard.
No I plan to use it on the toilet or around the house. Maybe at the cabin.
>because you are going to be alive then? Do you really want to spend 500 dollars every few year for a new device if they even make another one.
that's what console fags do, and they have to pay for their games again.

see:

>Do you seriously plan to use this thing at the park or at a restaurant or something like a retard
No, I plan to use it at home in places where I cannot use my PC, as an alternative to sitting in a chair staring at a computer screen for 4-8 hours a day. It's really not difficult to understand.

>Do you really need to spend 500 dollars on a device so you can play pc games out in public
Yeah. I'll even fucking play this thing at home. I loved the portability of the Switch and most people can agree that is the best part about it. So an unhinged, powerful Switch with thousands of PC and emulated games, and is a fully functioning linux desktop device sounds kino as fuck to me.
