All final fantasy games are brainless crap with no depth whatsoever so one that changes the tired formula for once will be marginally better than what hacksoft shat out years prior.

Isn't the biggest appeal of FF the characters and story? 12 seems to have the worst ones.

12 have one of the best stories in the series with some of the strongest characters, aside from the MC twink and his GF that Square forced them to put in.

All I know about it is that Basch was supposed to be the hero but tbey made up two younger characters out of fear it wouldn't sell well.

Well I'll agree there. 7's music is god tier alongside 8 and 6.
To me, the music is just as important as the story though, so the strong ost from 7 and the strong story combined makes it the best.
8's music is also god-tier but its story and characters suck balls.

The game is pretty good I think but I still haven't gotten around to beating the game and I have the Zodiac age version, looking back it's no wonder I never finished to due to how large the areas can be along with load times between each I can't believe I had the patience back then but that's a complicated story altogether.

A big part of the FF games are mood, atmosphere and artistic direction and I think that's largely what can make or break a game in the series. Honestly a lot of the games just feel really distant and long ago to really compare to each other anymore, but it's not strange to talk about this game because it was rereleased recently with the Zodiac Age version. It's a different departure from the rest of the series, it has an almost kind of Star Wars feel to the game at times which is quite interesting.

The game has kind of this retro RPG feel from the early era of video games that's hard to describe but it goes along with the level and art design as well, again it's hard to describe but it's like they took elements from an early NES game somehow despite the game being not that old. (though it's not that old anymore)

FFX feels really old at this point kind of like, like remember back then, that Final Fantasy? that was the best, when everyone wore bell bottoms and platform shoes. That's honestly what it feels like, the game kind of does have 70s sensibilities probably so it only really makes it more comical that people still talk about or compare to that game so often.

X11 is a lot more political and is a lot less emotional then previous iterations as well overall.

I feel like an extreme minority in that I LOVED 12's world and setting but couldn't give a single fuck about any of the main characters

i grew up with a super nintendo and sega genesis before you were even born you little bitch. i remember having to convince my dad and my uncle to go halves on ff7 which cost $70!!!! USD in 1997 bucks at a time when the playstation itself was being sold for $100. ff12 mogs most of the rest of the series. i hated it when i was a kid because of vaan and the license board, but on replay it via the zodiac age version years later, it became probably my favorite in the series. the dialogue is kino as fuck. the story is an almost 1-for-1 plagiarism of stars wars e4 instead of schizo anime nonsense with time travel and unreliable narrators. the automated meme is something you have to go out of your way to first purchase from multiple shops and then additionally set up for each character. there are also enemies and bosses that will apply zombie and other status effects to your party in aoe just to fuck with your gambits and turn your automated heals into automated nukes. how anyone can complain about ff12 being automated while ff13 literally has an 'auto-battle' button on-top of being ~40 hours of continuous hallways is beyond me.

Zodiac age doesn't rebalance the game ar all for allowing you to get twice the abilities, and in turn everything just becomes a joke.

This game sucked. I like the direction they took the gameplay, but they did nothing with it. So goddamn shallow, game becomes a bot farming sim even half way in.

What's so hard to comprehend?

- Story is awful and doesn't get interesting until it's almost over, 160 hours after start.
- The combat system is monkeyshit and the only positive thing anyone can say about it is that you can eventually get the game to play itself.
- Way too much of the game takes place in desert. Desert is the dullest biome.
- Vaan and Penelo should not exist.
- Neither should Basch and Ashe. Only fun character is Balthier and his sex rabbit.

i'm saying that's a better baseline than almost every other anime-centric plotline in the series.
