i'm really intrigued by this game but i'm really worried about the pronoun stuff. if they go heavy on it, i'm going to be heartbroken; not because i really give a shit about starfield, but because it means TES6 will be DOA. skyrim had tons of racial tension between nords and elves or skyrim and the empire for example and didn't once stoop to today's new low of trying to wax poetic about real world sociopolitics in fucking videogames and chastise/preach to the player about how they should feel. half of the appeal of bethesda games is getting lost in another world and it would be such a joykill to keep getting ripped back to the real world because modern devs insist on trying to get attention and affirmation from nobodies that don't play games on twitter.

also worried about this as far as dialog goes. If many of the recorded voice lines allude to the use of pronouns (ambiguous or pointed) then that will kill so immersion. Having to mod around that sounds unfun at the very least.

it's not the feature itself i'm worried about, it's that sort of thinking leaking into the other parts of the game. i'm just very worried it's going to be a typical idyllic future where they solved everything except for issues, like nu-star trek. imagine a skyrim where the where you spend half the game saving oppressed dark elves and showing those nord bigots what's what? i'm not saying that's definitely what it's going to be, just that i'm worried that's where their headspace is while developing it because it's very popular in the social zeitgeist right now.

Daggerfall had "walk into a wall at a specific angle and float up it." May as well say Morrowind had ladders as well since you can run at the wall with a float spell and go up as well.

that's what dying light 2 does, another recently released first person RPG. if you side with the good guy faction, they hang literal gay flags and rainbow car dealership styled triangular flags all over every town and windmill in the game. i had to help three separate pairs of husbands express their love for one another and help a gay couple escape from the peacekeepers faction schindler's list style in that game about a post-apocalypse and zombies. if you can't fathom why someone going out of their way to advertise pronoun selection over actual gameplay features could be indicative of a focus on current events real world issues over gameplay, then your version of reality is different from the real one and i don't know what to tell you.

After giving Fallout 4 a shot I am never playing another Bethesda game again. They are all the same and feel awful to play. After playing Skyrim I feel like I've experienced everything they are capable of offering.

Previously it was shit like Wil Wheaton's character in TNG who is so obviously there as a self-insert for scifi nerds (Yes TNG was overall much better than Discovery/Picard but there's plenty of other contemporary scifi that's much better)
