Why does this game lack any real interactions with the world outside of combat? Also the side quest system doesn't work in an open world this big. Otherwise decent game but definitely needed something to break up the flow.

First from software game?
What do you mean? There's NPCs, traversal, horseriding, etc.
no but 1-3 weren't open world so I could stomach the quest design and lack of interaction with the world was ok. This however is like any of those past games but stretched out ridiculously long without any improvements made on the previous systems to make them work for a game on such a scale.
because ER was just from chasing the open world trend after BOTW came out. no thought was put into the world at all other than how pretty it was going to look. ER's world feels more artificial and dead than RPGs from over 20 years ago. it's just one big arena, there's no reason for your character to go anywhere other than the need to kill more enemies
From games are always just combat and the quests are always obtuse even in the older games. The entire flow of a From game is combat.
>ER was just from chasing the open world trend after BOTW came out
Least delusional tendie
exploring is in every fromsoft game so that point is moot. The NPCS could have been done way better though and as I said the quest structure of dark souls does not work in a massive open world game that punishes you for playing it like an open world game
Deracine had my favorite combat system
obtuse quest work in a linear game where you are less easily punished for missing an NPC that just blends into the background
>"Why does this game lack any real interactions with the world outside of combat?"
>Here are some things that aren't combat oriented.
>"exploring is in every fromsoft game so that point is moot."
?
Leave the goalposts where they are next time.
>static NPCS that say one or two cryptic lines before disappearing and dying
>actual interactions
>Minimization.
If it didn't mean anything, you honestly wouldn't wine about them. Luckily, Alexander, Fia, Ranni, the Frenzied Maiden, etc, have quests that take you through the entire game and interlace with other NPCs on a rich tapestry. Try to do those next time
>Ranni
the only one thats not obscure bullshit
Because Japanese CAN'T design sandboxes or MMOs to save their lives. Their Sandbox games and MMO's are always extremely restrictive compared to American ones. That's why we need Todd to show them how it's done again
>It's too complex/crptic for me.
Just say that next time. No need to say "there's nothing in the game."
>why isn't there a fishing minigame in my souls game
>Japanese CAN'T design sandboxes
BOTW and MGSV are Japanese, kid
>MGSV
garbage open world
have you replayed the game at all? you truly feel how empty it is compared to other worlds after that first play through glow wears off
It feels like they just took the exact same Souls formula and applied it to an open world without how it would scale to a much bigger game. WOuld have been better with some more variety, puzzles and such. As is you're either fighting or riding your horse to go fight something
This
They bet the farm on extrinsic rewards. There's no place worth visiting for its own sake if you know you don't need any of the loot inside it
I have replayed it. It feels packed to the gills. Everywhere you go, there is some dungeon, crypt, mine, weapon, armor set, vendor, world boss, incantation, sorcery, ash of war, NPC, etc.
This describes all exploration in all games. You literally cannot not make an argument contrary.
>Their Sandbox games and MMO's are always extremely restrictive compared to American ones.
And they actually have combat systems worth playing. If that's the trade-off, I'd take an entire era of Japanese MMOs with literally zero Skyrims or Fallouts over any more Bethesda releases.
For me the now unforgivable but previously forgivable thing is movement and platforming. In the more linear games with overall more even terrain you could tolerate the jank. But in an open world game it just doesn't fly and isn't convincing. On foot navigation is probably as bad as Horizon Zero Dawn, mount is better but still bare bones and not amazing. Sekiro had better movement.
souls combat is just as bad as skyrim, give me DD combat instead
MGSV is one of the greatest contributions do the open world format
>The entire flow of a From game is combat.
Not really. I don't even really like the combat I just like exploring cool worlds
Legitimately retarded
ah yes I love fighting sekiro bosses with a character who walks like they are knee deep in water with only the R1 and circle buttons as my only true options
>with only the R1 and circle buttons as my only true options
>R2
>L1 if powerstanced
>L2 for almost all weapons in the game
>Items
Legitimately astonished at how retarded you "people" are.
Kek, DD combat
>Spam ninefold and kill every boss in the game in seconds while your 3 mooks pull aggro
kek
>trying to make souls combat seem much more nuanced than it really is
bro these games are straight ass at it and shine at the exploration/world building much more than combat. Sekiro blows that shit out the water despite just being as limited. Eat my ass.
>trying to make souls combat seem much more nuanced than it really is
Did you actually watch the video I linked? It's just some rando's shit I found scrolling through YouTube and it showcases a full moveset, only not choosing to use L1 because he is two-handed a curved greatsword. You can see L2 spam, R1, R2, and a charged R2 in there. This is an already limited movepool and your assertion that it's just R1 and Dodge is already wrong.
its literally just some guy spamming the same two moves over and over. Stop acting like souls is DMC bro
>bro these games are straight ass at it and shine at the exploration/world building much more than combat
I loved Elden Ring but I agree with this.
zoomers need to be able to build camps, farm vegan food and romance lqbt niggers in all ther video games now
miyazaki didnt even add a bowling minigame, 0/10
Because it's a from game. I don't know what you expected.
i just wish the legacy dungeons were bigger. i like how there are a lot of 'side' dungeons, but each area/zone in the previous games felt more fleshed out. all of the elden ring dungeons felt like they were too easy to navigate and not really that expansive.
>farm vegan food
crafting
>romance lqbt niggers
ranni
but building a bonfire of your own was something lots of people wanted in this game and even dark souls 3 though
Souls combat is funner and more engaging than shit like DMC. Complexity ≠ engagement, and that's why nobody buys DMC or plays it.
>nobody buys DMC or plays it
4.1 million units sold of the most recent game is pretty good for a series that was dead then revived. But as I said souls combat is nothing without the exploration/worldbuilding, the combat is just a vehicle for that and is still asshole.
>building your own health refilling checkpoints when area difficulty and balance as well as level design shortcuts are built around them was something lots of clueless retards wanted
It really isn't for a series with that sort of pedigree and that long awaited a sequel with far more hype and advertising behind it. DMC is a series people like talking about playing, but very few actually play. It has 1k concurrent on Steam, about a 6th of the souls game that came out the same year
>more popular = better
Nigga how dumb are you?
Actually building a bonfire is something that no one asked or wished for but it's something Fromsoft experimented with in early DS development. Why are you lying?
what are you talking about mate, were you even on this site around the time of dark souls 3 and the first mentions of from soft working on an open world game because the idea of having a bonfire kit was brought up plenty
There is no metric for what's a better game. Hitting sandbags means nothing to me for example. I said it was more engaging.
Again, something no one wanted or asked for. Stop lying.
something (YOU) didn't want. Lurk moar
Not what he said.
So you agree BOTW is better then?
He just said it’s the best metric what is, follow the bouncing ball dickhead.
I just said there's no metric for what's a better game, but if you're talking about sales as some sort of primitive gotcha, ER is well on track to demolish BotW.
>Souls combat is funner and more engaging than shit like DMC. Complexity ≠ engagement, and that's why nobody buys DMC or plays it
>more popular = better
Do go on. I want to see you do the pommel horse here.
>ER is well on track to demolish BotW.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
*takes a breath*
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*wipes tears*
Thanks for the good laugh user
Is this how people on Yea Forums talk? Like are you fucking 12?
>I believe in X.
>Sooo.... *shits pants Dicordically* you believe Y?!? Mmhmmm? Seems like I've got you in a sticky situation, friendo, Aha!
*shits in my hand and slaps it onto your face* a little poopy maybe?
*bends you over and fucks your ass*
rapey too?
POOPIE RAPEY
POOPIE RAPEY
He literally said it’s the best metric for what a better game is, twice. I’m not sure what you’re arguing here. I never said it was the *only* talking point he had. Please keep up.
Yeah ok buddy
>25m unit lifetime vs 18m unit in one month.
kek
Because it's just Dark Souls in a giant world with 500 chalice dungeons.
Where? Can you point to that in a post? Do you have a post ID?
how am I supposed to read this?
Every day, sadly.
>day 46 of people liking Elden Ring
>get up (it's 1:30pm).
>check Yea Forums, and people still like the game.
>report to tranny discord and form daily attack rubric
>*Shits pants Shazamically*
>drop ER hate thread #21730 along with the other 12 neo-trannites
>fight voraciously with fans of the game
>dilate throughout
>spend the next 9 hours in warfare
>Shout "Shazam!" and a bolt of lightning connects to extraction zone.
>eat steamed chicken tenders and head to bed (5am)
>get ready for day 47
are you some sort of retard incapable of realizing people will have dissenting opinions on the things you like? you know thats a sign of autism plus I clearly state I like the game in the OP I just wish there was more to do than just combat because it is an open world. Now go dilate autistard
nailed it
>people wanted in in dark walk 3 feet to find a new bonfire souls 3
I had some hope in Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula, since there were at least a few NPCs that gave you context about the area and Castle Morne and such. It wasn't much but it was something that made me more interested in exploring. Then the rest of the game there was essentially none of that.
Lurk moar and stop baiting
It's minimalism gone too far. Open world games need plot devices and dialogue to give you reasons to explore areas and care about them. Even a small amount of basic fetch quests dressed up in interesting lore that introduce you to areas on the map are needed. The game lacks depth.
Elden Ring is a game that is made by a studio with a passionate and rabid fanbase. The sales for their games are frontloaded because everyone rushes out and gets it in the first couples weeks, then the numbers die off. Zelda is a evergreen title that sells for years and years to come because it’s so mainstream and family friendly.
these two are the points I failed to make in the OP and all the tards saying the game is full of content probably haven't played past limgrave
tldr
actually i'm posting. not lurking, and posting specifically to let you know that you're talking out your ASS
