It was always amazing. Has some of the best combat in a JRPG, especially on Hard. The characters are all true to their original interpretations but are given the chance to be way more fleshed out, and the voice acting (obviously not English) really helps with that. There are some really poor assets and textures, which is embarrassing considering how good the game can look at times. The story is clumsy and the time jannies are kind of a gay way to do what they wanted to do, but the original game still exists so whatever.

Anyone who wanted a 1:1 adaptation of the story just wanted to hold their girlfriend at gunpoint and force her to play the game so they could live vicariously through her and try in vain to recapture their childhood nostalgia.

And is that plot about anything, or is it a bunch of retcons, contrivances and asspulls that do nothing but act as an excuse to stretch 5 hours of storyline into 40, complete with flashes of iconic moments from the original, and frequent pandering scenes of Sephiroth

as a final fantasy fan i still haven't played this game because i can't wrap my head around the idea of releasing an unfinished remake that won't be finished for over a decade

the shinra corp is sucking the planet dry and a group of eco terrorists are trying to stop it. Meanwhile, a ghost of a dead soldier haunts the protagonist, showing theres so much more to it than it seems and that shinra is just the tip of the iceberg.
How is this not a plot?

Weird, feels like it came out last year. My perception of time is so fucked up, I'll blink and like 3-4 years just pass by me. I'll be 30 this year, and eventually I'll blink and I'll be 37. I'm doing nothing with my life, and everyday is the same, and it's been the same for years. Same apartment, same job, and no friends. I imagine it's more common than I realize how many people are in that same lifestyle.

The game plays and looks like shit outside of cutscenes. The pacing of the story is shit. It's actually laughably bad how much they fucked this up. An entire fucking game based on 3 hours of content from the orignal game.
