Western mechs are usually more like walking tanks. Eastern are more sci-fi.
The Western Mech design is arguably more realistic and has less unnecessary moving parts.

o prefer mechs that dont look overly humanoid. like, whats the point in designing a giant robot with humanoid hands, to grip a giant rifle, designed like a regular rifle but just scaled up instead of just building the weaponry into the mech itself?

Western people are low key more socially whipped than their eastern counter parts. Westerners are extremely self conscious what people think about them and I can tell they are constantly trying to fit in so they don’t draw attention to themselves. So in this aspect, western people don’t want to accidentally make something try hard or cringe so they make Corp garbage. Japs on the other hand are similar except they don’t have a rampant drug abuse problem in their nation meaning anxiety from creative and individual display are much lower. Despite what you think about the japs, they have way more self respect than most westerners. They will wear things they throughly enjoy like a cow boy hat and generally will wear it with great pride

I always thought mechs were gay, but Japanese make them even gayer.
American mechs actually look like military vehicles. Japanese mechs look like a dude wearing a bunch of greebles.
