>can't upgrade it
>one part breaks and you are fucked
Wow, I wonder why

When you never leave the house you don't really need much in the way of portability.
I used to game on a shitty laptop. It was cozy as hell laying in bed playing some fallout with something good on the TV. I just can't stand the fan noise anymore though.

pc gaming tho. iunno

My left hand rests on WASD while I'm at my work PC. It's just a habit at this point.

If I splurge on my laptop it'll get all sticky and won't work anymore.

Because most laptops brands have low-quality components and when they finally stop working they are a bitch to replace (and in some cases that isn't even possible).
If I really wanted to buy a portable vidya device would get one of those raspberry-pi kits or a switch, but my phone is good enough for me now.

Been doing gaming laptops since 06 pretty much, the portability brings couch co-op back to life.

Pros
>affordable during the GPU shortage
>portable
>thermals have improved greatly over the years
Cons
>thermals are still shit
>can't upgrade, must replace
>screen/keyboard level will never both be good without external components
>can't avoid pre-installed bloatware
That's what I've got off the top of my head. I use a gaming laptop, but I travel a lot for work

just plug your pc into the tv

Don't even bother playing games. Just watch Twitch instead.

I didn't bother with a graphics card, bought a laptop with a 3050ti for 1k, couldn't run elden ring what so ever even with lowest settings

I used to make fun of people who watch others play video games and I thought it was really dumb but then I stopped to think and I've been watching porn most of my life and thats literally the same thing but for sex which I've never had. Hit me like a ton of bricks.

i have that laptop, its fucking terrible
>takes ages to boot up
>sometimes on wakeup it takes 5 minutes to see lock screen from a black screen
>hdd
>loud as fuck
>battery is terrible, need to have it plugged in always
>terrible ghosting, 1 minute of a white screen with text will be your background for the next 5 minutes
im glad i have a desktop and only bought it for use in bed, but i would be so pissed if i actually feel for the meme over a desktop

Attached: 1626778547776.jpg (292x292, 8.88K)

>3050ti
oh shit nigga what are you doing

I have some pretty insane laptops, but I'm also filming with bluemoon and reds. Not everyone is neet and does nothing. Sometimes it's nice to have gear that can do everything.

I've had this laptop since 2017 and it does literally everything I need it to do. If you buy an actually good laptop and take care of it it will do you just fine Yea Forums is just full of consoomers who build desktops because they never leave the house

Attached: my specs.jpg (1140x507, 236.52K)

>Not everyone is neet and does nothing.
if you're not NEET and does nothing you don't belong on this website unironically

I was neet from 2010 until 2019. I'm 33.

I'm pc illiterate, learned from my mistake but its not like I play much I just play counter strike and some rotmg now, though I can now play with more than 20 fps and smokes don't kill my laptop also minecuck with shaders on max render is under 60 but I think that has to do with cpu or something

>bought a gaming laptop in 2017
>calls other people consoomers
el em ay oh @ ur life

he jelly

while we;re here why do people seem to have such a problem with MSi? I've never had a problem with any of the stuff I've bought from them

>jelly
the 970m is notoriously fucking terrible you tech illiterate
cope harder

Idk, it literally makes more sense at this point to just buy a gaming laptop as long as it doesn't look like an RGB lightshow. >Muh display size/refresh
hook up your old monitor when you're at home
>Muh bulk and "gamer" design
Mine has a 1650 max Q in it and lookwise i's just a slightly thicker version of the non gaming specs model. Doesn't look like a gaming laptop
>Muh price, buildmuhowncheaper
Building your own can be cheaper but when you factor in your faggot cherry mx keyboard, 144hz display (so cool), and nongaming laptop since you need one anyway you'll be at roughly even with current gpu prices and more affordable gaming laptops coming out
>muh upgrades
Who cares what if you can whatever dogshit games come out in 5 years at max settings?
>muh water cooled temps!
Take your meds
I really just fail to see why most gamers want a desktop unless they're on a poorfag budget (in which case it'd unironically be better to buy a console these days) or actually need a desktop with tons of ram/cpu/storage for a nongaming task.

a gaming laptop is just an expensive console

Same as gigabyte. Used to be a good company. Now it's chinkshit. Some of it might be worth the price tag

>They have gotten way better in recent years
no they haven't

user that article wouldn't just LIE

Don't forget that after about two years your drivers are going to be fucked because so many parts are purpose-built for your machine. I managed to essentially brick a laptop by trying to upgrade it to windows 10 and none of the graphics card drivers were compatible so it was stuck with integrated graphics and couldn't roll back. Went from a functional machine that could run light things like torchlight to a paperweight that would crash from having two chrome tabs open.

>can't avoid pre-installed bloatware
literally just wipe your drive and reinstall the system?

honestly gaming laptops are alright. ive got one from like 4+ years ago that has a 1060 and with like a screen swap it can do 120hz and looks great. i will always have a desktop but if something were to happen and i needed a new computer for gaming i wouldnt flinch at grabbing a laptop and a dock with a few extra monitors. get a NAS for movies and tv shows or extra shit i want to download as well

1. You can't easily replace parts when something is broken.
2. If you actually opt for high performance components, your laptop will end up too heavy to be a proper mobile device.
3. Cooling is much worse which will result in components being less performant than a comparable desktop system.
4. For someone reason nobody but Apple is capable of building quality hardware components that actually feel they're worth their money, but even Apple devices suffer from the aforementioned issues in comparison with desktop computers.

Point 1. Is the absolute kill criterion, since you don't want to send in your device for every part that breaks.

Because it's all the downsides of a console in a PC.
Hell it would be better just to buy a prebuilt since you can still swap out parts as they age.

I don't care what you niggas use

>literally just wipe your drive and reinstall the system?
Are you talking about a Linux distro or are you one of those retards who thinks you can just hit a button and revert to a basic windows installation?

You can make an install USB you stupid motherfucker

I don’t. I own one.
>AMD Ryzen 5600, 32 gigs 3200, Radeon 6600XT
>Acer Nitro 5. 1050ti
>Xbox 360
>Xbox One
>Wii
>3DS
>Switch OLED
Right now, I’m watching Code Geass and playing Mon Hun Rise while drinking Saki and munching on sushi.
You can’t be me.

Because they don't fucking work, they overheat and throttle and run like shit and are useless for a competitive game and require you to set it on a desktop plugged in to be semi-capable at which case you might as well just buy a prebuilt desktop instead. Just stream your non-competitive games to a tablet or your phone, and buy a real gaming PC for competitive games.

>Doesn't know how screwdrivers work or how to take apart something that's more simple than most Lego sets

You should honestly just stick to being a console gamer

the absolute state of Yea Forums, holy fuck

That too. As soon as the manufacturer abandons support for your model, the obsolescence clock starts ticking.

Weeb

>Saki
Kek

>You can’t be me.
True, but also you will never be japanese. Fat retard

>I'm a consolefag who has no idea what I'm talking about
Ah, carry on then

>Saki
Did you mean sake?

Post laptop, bros.

Inability to upgrade the video card sucks dick. But if you're taking it with you because you use it for other tasks or you travel a lot, it's semi-convenient. But even on the road, I'm always wishing for my comfortable desk and monitor setup.

>gaming laptops
Would it be better or worse than a steam deck?

Nigga what the fuck are you talking about?

Are you quoting yourself? Because that's exactly what you do. You make a windows install USB to make a fresh install of windows.
Did you fucking think every hard drive just came with windows pre-installed?

better, but nothing can beat a steam deck for $400.

gl changing a burned motherboard, cpu user. Or even better your gpu(if there is any...)

gamer moment

HDD's haven't been a thing in laptops in almost a decade. We've had sata SSD's and M.2 drives forever now.

Laptops are shit because their GPU's have low power limits and can't be cooled without being louder and a literal box fan, but they're fine if you just want something in a small package. I have a desktop, but played through the entirety of elden ring on a laptop with a 3060 because it was more convenient.

dunno what to tell you mang, my laptop has and came with an hdd

If anyone buys at laptop, they should at least buy an office one. Those are made to last for a while unlike the "gaming" ones.

1. Theyre over priced for what they are. Pre made gaming pcs are better for your bucks
2. They're bulky and not even that convenient to carry around.
3. They're loud as shit
4. The benefit of it being on your lap is overriden with it getting stupidly hot.

I have an obnoxiously big pc tower. I'm ok carrying it to my friends house in the few instances I even want to take it somewhere. Otherwise I'm an adult and can last without my games for a month if I have to travel for work.

I'm an idiot, I thought you said had *a* laptop, not *that* laptop. I suck cocks.

I got a decent gaming laptop, its only worthwhile to have one if you move around a lot or say, you have a lax job and can run games at the office without anyone noticing/caring.

I've been using a laptop to play games for a couple years now, but I've been thinking about selling it and buying a desktop instead.
