Mixed up feeling about Yakuza 3

Combat is kinda bad but the Okinawa sections are comfymax
it's not about this, the vibe that this game give me is weird, kamrucho kinda creepy, Okinawa is kinda unsettling, it doesn't have that feeling that it's new anymore, it felt really empty for some reason
it's the graphics, environment looks like it's dirty and like it lacks good lighting or shadows or something, I don't know, it's just something feels off about it
it makes okinawa look like a slum
that's what happened when you develop a game in 9 months, fuck kenzan, if this game didn't exist we would have 3 in better shape

What? I'm of the completely opposite feeling, it's very inviting and homely. The southern part of it feels like that but that's intentional because all the gangsters and scammers are down there in addition to a bunch of seedy hostess clubs while the north has tons of people walking around, the strip mall area is always packed, and the M-Store area seems like a chill place to hang out.
i don't know really, the whole area seem very weird, it's like there is someone spying on you in Okinawa, and kamrucho felt very weird, in my second walkthrough, when you go back to kamrucho in 2007 i explored the town and it's very different

We'd have just as many problems as Kenzan because 3 fixed a lot of the basic issues that existed in Kenzan like the sumo wrestlers, unarmed actually becoming usable, street items being more plentiful, enemies who dodge to your side when attacked, etc. You could argue Okinawa maybe would have been bigger because they'd try out the "map" concept on 3 but besides that I'd argue a lot of the basic systems they implemented within Kenzan would be more barebones. I don't even think Mack would be in 3 in the same way he was because the only chases Kenzan had were those night guards in the Suburbs.

Probably the worst game in the series but very unique regardless. One of those occasions where you know something is bad but still respect and admire it. I didn't care much for the plot and the following games made it have less impact overall but it was pretty ballsy. Might replay someday, Okinawa was pretty beautiful

0 is the best but the other games are still great. 3 filters most people and that is mostly due to the game itself. Just play on easy, every yakuza game has 0 difficulty basically because you can just carry 20 full heals rather easily. Yakuza 3 has it's merits though

Kaito files makes me so angry, we could have gotten a full Kaito game instead of Yagami and it could have come to PC because he's not modeled after an actor with the most predatory agency in all of Japan man.
But nah, the DLC just finishes Kaito's arc, he's definitely not gonna get his own game after this, and if a new game happens it will probably be yagami again.

Its good but not the best one. I didn't like it so much the first time I played it because I was in a hurry and wanted to get through the whole series. When I replayed it recently and took my time doing almost everything I appreciated the game a lot more.
Fishing in 3 was kino and never this tough again, 4 and 5 only had more bloat but ultimately they fellt weak in terms of challenging the sea.
Also the Arena fights and boss challenges in 3 were unironically the hardest shit I ever faced in any of these games and while everyone whines about the combat in this game it is actually the only one were you ever have to actually have to learn it inside out instead of just btfoing everything by hammering the strongest combos.

I've started this series around Yakuza 5 by borrowing a ps2 and playing through the older games, and I enjoyed it a whole bunch.
I do think 0 is the best game of the series that I've played it (I still haven't really delve into the Judgement series or Y7)

Not really, Kaito files and Kaito as an MC was much more endearing than the entirety of Yagami's character through LJ, I'm not saying he isn't obviously the marketing draw but I'd much rather have a full Kaito game because the DLC's story and Kaito as an MC shows a lot of promise, but as you said he has to take care of Mikiko and Jun now probably.

I don't know if I agree. I felt like Kaito being so ridiculously perceptive multiple times during the DLC was weird for how he was characterized, and while he's a nice goofball he doesn't feel like he could carry a full game on his shoulders without feeling like a bootleg Kiryu more than he already does.

looking back at it I do think that the reason for Kiryu to keep on the Dojima family is pretty flimsy desu. But other stories in the series are way messier imo.

Both in Judgment and Lost Judgment his only contributions to the investigations were one-off "They would never do this" or "Haha yeah, what if this conspiracy is real" ideas that he threw out there that Yagami took into consideration and Yagami is the one solving basically everything for both of them while Kaito goes and tails someone or grabs Yagami some information. He's never been characterized as being able to read people as well as he did with the doctor let alone that friend club leader or the penultimate boss. It just feels super weird when you compare it to the main story.

He caught the doctor in a lie not once, but like three times in the span of several minutes.
He was instantly able to deduce that the Mikiko thing in chapter 3 was a trap by the guy and he didn't really do anything.
He was very quickly able to piece together that Mikiko's husband was behind everything with very little proof. Granted, he had that K2 Takashima lookalike feeding him hints but still.

Kazama was just an old as fuck dude in 1, basically just offering his advice to Tojo because he couldn't fight anymore.
