Unlike many modern gacha games which have much more forgiving treatment towards new players, in FGO there are occasionally events you cannot participate in without clearing part of the main campaign (story). In FGO, these temporary events are a core part of the gameplay where you can obtain things that are less trivial than experience or enhancement materials, including characters which cannot be obtained from the gacha.

Some annual events like valentine's day may only require you to complete the tutorial chapter. Others (in the case of most recent events) will require you to complete the ENTIRE first arc of the story. Whether or not that in itself is a difficult task is up for debate, but it could conceivably take you weeks if you have no prior knowledge about the game itself.

You could save a lot of time by skipping cutscenes, but you will still be at the mercy of loading times and PVE roadblocks that require more ingenuity to get past. Even using the most extreme tactics, it would take you over half a day to clear all nine chapters in Part 1.

Strictly speaking, it isn't too late to play FGO, but you will be mocked for not having servants that seasoned players would expect you to use to overcome PVE problems.

Also remember that the event will also allow you to instantly get any one character to their final Ascension. I personally don't actually need this perk because I'm drowning in embers. I have embers sitting in my giftbox since before Christmas. It's getting to be a problem.

The only one I ever deliberately rolled for was Saber. I have her at Lv100 10/10/10. I'm gonna be saving up my quartz for Muramasa and giving him the same treatment.

Artoria by far, best Saber in the game, Mo is good too.
Waver is really important for any team no matter what, Tamamo is good for stalling/Arts team but she'll get outshined by Castoria.

Necromancy is a meme, and you probably won't ever use more than one at a time. I'd MLB them, I drown in them anyway.

Tamamo is good in some challenge quests where you're forced to play a war of attrition. She has good compatibility with Castria because she can help Castria get her NP off more often.

tales series so bad about mobile games but I guess it's all about wrangling in the fujo's to roll for Yuri, then summer Yuri and then cut the game loose after making over 100 billion from them alone. Sucks because Crestoria story stuff was actually pretty entertaining and the original characters weren't bad.
