The average player didn't either. Less than 25% of people even finished the main game. Usually it's under 50% of people who even bother to finish any given game.

As soon as you leave Liurnia of the Lakes the overall quality of the game suddenly takes a nosedive, and you'll keep running into recycled enemies and bosses a lot more frequently. That's when the game stops being fun and starts feeling like a soulless grind.

that's now true I mean it's not the quality of the game which drops, Haligtree has some of the best art direction and level design of all the souls game, it's just that the open world is too big for the sake of being big and like you said with all the reused shit you get bored of it near the end

Firstly, it's possible to see 80% of the game's content before progressing past the capital. Secondly, Haligtree and Farum are two of the best areas in the game. Sorry discord friend but you need to start trying harder.

user these reviewers all used every tool they had. Summons, ashes, everything under the sun to beat the game. They still didn't make it past the capital or in most of the reviews I read to the capital.

Early copies are given to reviewers with a set of talking points and keywords and list of features that MUST be in the review. They rarely ever play the actual game. Just talk graphics and regurgitate the features list. They are often given demo footage to watch for a feel of how gameplay goes and can write about that. Sometimes pre-written experiences instead.

If a game satisfies most of its players, then it’s a good game. The purpose is to entertain, users are entertained.
Taste is subjective, this is why it’s so hard to reach a large audience.
Games with fuckhuge marketing campaigns failed miserably, because they could please their audience.
Out of these 3 movies, 3 are great, but only 1 suits YOUR tastes.

Not saying that isn't at least vaguely true or true for some publishers, but how quickly we forget how many journalists were crying about having to play such a big game with only a week to finish it and review it

That is the big problem with game reviewers and the audience in general. Everyone wants to be the first person to review something so you get the most clicks/views/updoots or whatever, sometimes impossibly fast, so even if they have some kind of integrity, and want to get as far as possible in the game, you're bum rushing through things with no time to smell the roses, or barely scratching the surface of a game.
Its not even really a "review" at that point, but just an "initial reaction."

The game being easier doesn't improve late game. It's still a boring slog of copy paste shrines until you hit actual dungeons. Getting 5-shot by a mob instead of 2-shot doesn't matter when you're running past everything anyway.

Yep, past Leyndell this game takes a serious dive. Farum Azula was a short revival, but the snow areas and especially Haligtree are ass. I was paying special attention and all of Haligtree has not a single unique enemy that first appears there.
It's all reused mobs, most of them placed in cringe spots to ambush or push you off some ledge.

Haligtree doesn't have a single new enemy.
