Emulators are cool but Otogi still emulates like shit and I don't feel like trying to run Red Dead Redemption or The Darkness again with all the glitches they had. They work just fine on my xbox.

proton doesn't support everything yet, in fact it's not even close but it will get better. right now though it's practically more locked down than a console would be from a library perspective

Although emulating those games is definitely a plus and a legit reason I got a Series X, it wasn't the only one. Games like Starfield and the Judgment games were also motivators. It was more the fact that there are a lot of libraries on one machine available to me, with little setup to get it working (retroarch on retail mode is easier to set up than ever now too).

I don't really use mods to be honest. I know the Xbox version of Skyrim has them available but I never cared to really use them. I like my first playthrough to be "pure" and by the time I'm done with one playthrough of a bethesda game, I'm usually satisfied. As long as the performance is good, I'll be happy.

If I were a newfag to games and wanted to start at the first game, for a lot of series a simple PS5 wouldn't work. Like if I wanted to get into Red Dead Redemption, I can play both games plus Revolver on an Xbox, but PS5 is missing RDR1. Maybe MS is banking on attracting these kinds of people, that and I guess it fleshes out the gamepass lineup a little.
