It was David Hodges too who was largely the Christian influence of this band. I know they say it's not but it was loosely that theme all throughout Origin and Fallen.

I've tried watching Ergo Proxy 4 times, the furthest I've gotten was episode 4. It's just so boring, and deliberately tells you nothing to the point where you can't even speculate what's happening because it's trying to be so artsy. I don't get it, but supposedly it's a masterpiece or something, according to my time on Yea Forums years ago.

It was incredibly pretentious (not calling it bad) and there's like two episodes you can just straight cut out with no detriment, but there's nothing that really captures its best aspects. Closest thing is Psycho Pass I guess. Watch the first season and skip the rest.

Of course, I must have commandeered my opinion from some cringy anime youtuber. Couldn't have possibly come to that conclusion after watching the whole thing. Paranoia Agent is pretentious too; I'm not even calling either of them bad. I just think it tries so hard to 'have a message' that it detracts from the show as a whole. It's fucking cool, the setting is gorgeous and interest. Autoraivs are rad. The proxies are sick and the most pretentious part of the show. It's cool that they're reactors though.

It just doesn't have to try so hard. We already like it, it doesn't have to pretend to be smart. I might lump Casshern Sins in the same boat, but that anime has worse issues like horrible pacing. At least, barring two episodes, Ergo Proxy keeps forward momentum.
