So should I use this or standalone emulators?

Use it for everything except ps2

Attached: RetroArch 2.webm (800x600, 2.77M)

Depends completely on the emulator. I hate it for Nintendo 64 because it uses a really fucked up save format. Same goes for GBA.

use retroarch for
>NES
>SNES
>PS1
>PC Engine
>Genesis

standalone for everything else

You should use original hardware, faggot.

what filter is that?

The fuck does it matter? Just use your own that you like.

Standalone. I've been using them since the mid-2000's, no need to change what already worked.

seems to be an NTSC filter
wew someone is having a bad day

Up through most of 5th gen, retroarch cores are flat superior to most standalones. Lot's of input delay mitigation features, shaders and syncing options

If you care about input delay, use retroarch and set it up correctly

Retroarch is bloatware, just use the base emulators.

>literally two different graphical styles
i kneel

Standalone. Retroarch has its perks but that's it; just another one to use.

I'm trying to use it to compare and see if the shills are not bullshiting that can emulate CRT properly but have no idea how to use it.

case by case basis
dolphin and pcsx2 work better standalone
n64 works better on retroarch
it's also nice to be able to use all the mednafen cores without installing ANOTHER frontend

STOP

STEALING

GAMES

Use it.

guarantee this user could not be convinced raw pixels have been stripping away details and special effects from his games for years

>Doesn't have a CRT monitor, has to rely on filters
I see 'em just fine, zoomer.

If you are playing in 240p RGB on a period correct CRT on a game designed for RGB then good for you.

If you are using PC CRT with raw pixels in integer scaling mode or using a 800-line PVmeme then you are not seeing the game properly even if you are using a "CRT monitor".

Only build retroarch or get it "standalone" retroarch and don't upgrade, put it on an underground bunker database that's offline and seed it to the internet so it can never be controlled by service upgrades.
Most emulators can't even do mouse and keyboard, and I prefer playing on my kb+m. A controller having more buttons wouldn't solve or even change my mind.

Standalones are far easier to configure. Sometimes all-in-one solutions aren't that convenient.

You shouldn't be emulating at all. It is a violation of every basic terms of service, and a felony in the United States.

Pretending to be retarded will end with you in company of retards.

It's not convenient, no, but it is still possible. Patience is a virtue.

I wouldn't recommend using the PPSSPP or Dolphin cores either. They're pretty jank, run behind upstream and the standalone frontends are generally better.

Maybe. But Retroarch is more flexible and has many more features. If you play a lot of emulated games you should probably get around to learning to use it.

You should just learn how to use the dedicated emulators, they'll always be better than your hamfisted frontend. The only thing Retroarch brings to the table are preconfigured shaders/filters. That's it.

And being a ten-foot UI that doesn't suck ass. Have you ever tried using a standard application on a TV? Bad times.

I already know how to use the standalone emulators. I used them for 15 years before RetroArch.
RetroArch is better.

On the computer? just use standalones

I made a raspberry pi with retroarch to play on my tv though as its super simple to just turn on and play

Standalone. Retroarch has an ass UI and it's better to get something that Just Werks

>the ghouls are now Muslim

>2022
>still owning an idiot box

Attached: 1649312689835.jpg (500x628, 133.89K)

This is factually incorrect.

What else am I going to rig all the game consoles up to? A computer monitor?
I already dropped cable, it's utterly pointless. I never watch it anymore.

Right? This user clearly doesn't know about Retroarchâ„¢'s amazing flagship features! He'd have a blast playing all of his retro games in the BEST quality with the LOWEST input delay if only he'd ditch those confusing standalone emulators with their clunky UIs and totally shit input delay issues!

you're a moron

>remaking the same shill thread over and over
You just outed yourself. Get the fuck off this site, you piece of shit shill cunt. I genuinely would kill you if I could.

I use RA. I like having everything in one place. Sure it may be a hassle at first, but once you've set it up, you can copy your configs everywhere. Now, all my controls throughout all platforms and games are one, and I can even customize certain settings per platform, per game if I need to. It'd be nice if other emus made cores for RA already.

No. You can go eat shit. Don't reply to me again.

Standalone always, now fuck off shill

Sorry user, you're right. I forgot to mention the steep learning curveâ„¢ that these anons are clearly just too stupid to figure out. Am I doing it right? Did I mention input delays?

I can't think of anything a standalone emulator offers more or in a better way than retroarch cores do.
If you need to configure something in retroarch though it might be slightly more difficult for an average zoomer, but in terms of emulation itself retroarch is superior simply by how convenient it is to have all in one.
I just wish someone releases the RPCS3 core already.

Ease of use. Retroarch is the most inconvenient program made with the goal of making things convenient.

>CRT monitor
retro console games were designed to be played on TVs not monitors.

Like fucking clockwork. The shill script you all follow is so weird too. You try to neg people into thinking Retroarch is for big brains only, while also complaining about how complex and confusing it is for you to use regular emulators.

How the fuck Retroarch is complicated to use

Basically everything is automatic

A PS3 core would be too complicated for RA to handle with the current UI. RPCS3 is an incredibly complicated emulator.
PS3 is well into the LCD era as well so the draw of CRT shaders isn't strong there for me.

That user didn't say one thing about stand alone emulators being confusing or complex. Meds.

It's implied through the remark about Retroarch being more convenient by virtue of being an all-in-one. Read the post again. It's just "Retroarch is super difficult ALSO it's super convenient and easy". It's the same shit, slightly different framing. He seems to have toned down his copypasta after getting called out in the last thread.

Yeah you could literally just stick to

>load core
>load content

and off playing games with zero configuration if you wanted.
>but muh controller config
RetroArch does a pretty good job of autoconfiguring.

tip: press f to enter full screen if you are too lazy to read the intro tip the first time you start the program.

The only problem I had configuring was kb/mouse input for individual games and ended up just manually editing config files with notepad because it was faster than using their consolified GUI.
Other than that everything worked out of the box.
Also input lag is a meme, I've beat every platformer from my childhood without problem. I don't even know what kind of games you autists play where the lag is crucial or even noticable.

Nobody is talking about smartphone, nigger.

No, it isn't. That user even said RetroArch "might be slightly more difficult" implying stand-alones are easier to config, not harder like you're insisting.
You're getting mad at imaginary people you made up in your head. Meds.

Why would anyone shill for a free program, you sperg?

I don't know, you'd have to ask OP. Alternatively, wait about an hour after this thread dies to see the same thread pop up again.

See:
ctrl+f: flagship, steep, consolidated

I've been using it for arcade games and it works pretty nice. Can't get Outrun 2 to work though.

Reminder there is literally NO alternative for the dozens of features RetroArch offers, and you WILL be missing out on them all if you get filtered by being too stupid to figure it out (reminder: you only need to learn RetroArch once and it's the same for dozens of platforms and consoles)

People use it for the
>consolidated UI and settings for hundreds of different emulators
>run-ahead
>full rebinding
>VRR, BFI, and sync to exact framerate
>shaders, filters, and overlays
>audio customization and level
>unlimited save states, pause, rewind, fast-forward, frame advance
>cheat support
>network play
>50+ different hotkeys with full rebinding
>Retro achievements that are uncheatable with a hardcore mode to disable save states, cheats, pause, rewind, and fast forward
>updated forks
>being able to set any aspect ratio or refresh rate
>Rotation/TATE support
>recording, screenshots, and streaming
and being able to save ALL OF THESE, as well as specific core options and global settings, on a per-game, per-core, per-directory, and global basis. That means each and every game can have its own rebindings, shaders, volume and audio settings, run-ahead level, core and core options, rotation, aspect ratio, etc.

There is literally no reason to use anything else to play gen 5 and earlier games

Have you ever considered that people are going to use the same words to describe something?

"Flagship features" rarely come up in standard conversation, especially when no one was talking about said flagship features. Calling it a "consolidated UI" is also abnormal.
