The faggot MAME devs are straight up removing games if the rights holders complain to them, despite emulation being perfectly legal. So now if you upgrade your MAME version you literally can't play games like Akai Katana or DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou.
Literally the single most important emulator in the world you underage retard.
Sebastian Torres
but that's not mednafen
Xavier Davis
so what? This shit always sorts itself out, just like DeSmuME community fork time
Josiah Davis
Don't care FPBP btw /thread
Logan Green
they don't want to be sued so i get that part. eventually the community figures out a way around it and it goes back to baseline. total non-issue but yeah pretend it's some political thing you brainwormed faggot

Very based. Weeb pirates absolutely MALDING and SEETHING rn lmao
There's surely a fork that does support Saidaioujou.
Ian Gutierrez
MAME is the one emulator I approve of as someone who's personally anti-enulation simply because legally getting arcade games is unfeasible compared to just buying an official disc or cart of a console game. I agree with what they're doing as long as the game that's being removed has an official release that people can buy.
Dominic Richardson
you can just add them back, as the other user said, they don't want to deal with shark lawyers
Mason Cox
based faith in the emu community chad
Gavin Rodriguez
fucking stupid. he entire point of emulation is to let people PLAY FUCKING GAMES. What is the point of an emulator that actively prevents you from doing that?
Colton Watson
>Even with the rom, you can't launch it >unless you rename the rom >or if you compile the code on your end since then you can just remove the // that breaks compatibility >but we absolutely can't let you run anything that isn't a verified good dump that we store in the emulator for some reason >except through command line
Did they just make every mistake possible in setting this up, and half ass their compliance with the order?
Lucas White
yeah, I believe it's intentional. I think they know how much of a pain in the ass it is but they also don't want to get in trouble
Jose Gonzalez
shoot em ups are all garbage and easy as hell to make.
Jeremiah Cruz
lmao that's pretty based all things considered yeah, we'll totally comply with your binding legal order, exactly to the word of the law and no further so that everyone can just roll their eyes and keep doing what they were doing
Noah White
Only third worlders and slant eyes still care about arcade games
That's normally how it goes when people get hit with a legal order, why would you go above and beyond to comply with an order you don't even agree with?
Ryder Ward
>NOW mame taking a knee to Cave C&D's isn't really new news
William Watson
Use all your big boy words from before you got on to twitter in 2016 to explain how this is pozzed
David Garcia
You don't even have to do this shit. Many popular custom MAME builds (such as Arcade64) natively support SDOJ and Akai Katana.
Adrian Ramirez
Nooo I won't be able to play those shitty ass games now
Luis Russell
Not for long lol. Besides I'm an alpha male so I refuse to use Retroarch on principle of it being made for raspberry pi, not having a working UI for desktop PCs, and stealing the hard work of talented developers which then drives people like the creator of Duckstation away and encourages others like Redream to go behind a paywall.
Nathaniel Morris
>censorship stop being retarded. it's a retarded situation but it's demonstrably not that
Jordan Baker
>Not for long lol Nigger this isn't changing for anyone who isn't using the original MAME, and keeping it updated. I'm not even sure why you would keep it updated because of how often they break compatibility with games that were working.
Noah Mitchell
Listen man, I hate censorship as much as the next guy and I hate that emulation is dying. But you need to stop being such an underaged schizo about it. There's more to life than this, touch grass, get a girlfriend. :amogus:
Noah Ortiz
What does that mean? Can't you just download the Rom file of whatever game they removed?
It means nothing unless you run a vanilla MAME build for some reason.

Justin Parker
this has literally been policy for decades now and is the reason some games weren't emulated
arcade games largely have different hardware per-game, so each game needs specific support that being said, you can a: use a different emulator version, or b: rename the roms you have as if they're a different game that runs on the same hardware
Liam Miller
I honestly do not care about this topic.
Christopher Jenkins
Project 64?
Ian Price
Why is this a big deal? I can still play on FBNeo.
Isaac Watson
No, PCSX2
Jonathan Butler
FB Neo doesn't have support for every game (including these ones) you dumb tards
Austin Cox
RetroArch core put it back, just go with that and fuck the MAME gatekeeper trannies.
Gavin Peterson
Akai Katana is coming to PC soon so there's that.

Why is arcade such a mesa to emulate? Every time I get a different Arcade emulator, I have to look for at least 4 versions of a ROM in different websites until the emu picks up whatever ROM feels like running. Whenever I want to play a console ROM (or ISO), it's the same one no matter the website or the emulator I'm running, it will just work. How do you figure this out on Arcade games?
Mason Watson
What about mesas have anything to do with arcade emulation?
>How do you figure this out on Arcade games? Reverse engineering, documentation and maybe even outright 'magic' at times. A console has a known set of hardware and a known range of behaviors. Sure, a slim version might come out later, but you know it will keep compatibility with the original one. For arcade machines, though... Think of each arcade cabinet as its own console. At least before 'interchangeable boards' like CPS1/2, Triforce, NAOMI were created. A cabinet will have its own cpu, memory layout, sound processor, and special chips depending on the type of game. When MAME boots a game it pops up the hardware info for that cabinet's system. And it's not just one ROM like how it works with consoles, a machine has several ROM chips and you need all of them in order to play the game properly (this is why most MAME roms come in zipped files, and the emulator takes care of sorting that stuff out for you).
Evan Garcia
>Gotta hunt down tons of specific mame builds because latest version doesn't work for X game but the build 20 updates ago does
Good riddance
William Hall
As to why you need to try multiple versions, there's no real standard or format we can rely on since every machine is unique in itself, so the emulator is probably expecting a format or filename set different than what you downloaded. MAME has its own internal 'list' so it can work out most basic errors by its own, but it's not perfect.

>there's no real standard or format we can rely on how about the dozens of standards and formats that worked on the dozens of previous mame versions? why not just stick to one of them?
