Nintendo is applauded for their programming and design. Satoru Iwata was the face of the company for a long time because of his ability to program video games with accessibility and ease.

Nintendo is literally "The Mario Company"
Every single thing they make is built to support creating the exact same Mario experience, and they will make you pay Apple prices for it. They don't even need to try, they don't need to make present-day hardware, they can even let an intern design the controller for all they care, all they need to do is to put Mario on it.
Once Mario is on it, they just allow any game that has no substance and no blood/gore on the platform and then make you pay about 80 bucks for it. Never discount, never offer anything of value. No need to try things, it's the place where Mario is!
Once people are getting tired of their shit, they make an effort and... RELEASE A NEW VERSION OF THE SAME OLD THING.

This will go on for as long as they want. Your grandkids will tell you about Mario Zipworld: The Boogiedancer when you're old and frail, and they'll spend your retirement fund on their newest ZitPop console while you starve to death in the crackhouse that passes as old retirement home.

Their games are among my favorite but I can't fucking stand their shitty hardware.
If they released on PC I would buy them in a heartbeat but until then I'd rather deal with emulation bugs than sub-720p visuals on some of their first party games.
It's a damn shame because disregarding framerate enhancements from emulation, some of their games look fucking beautiful at high resolutions and it really benefits their artstyle.

I like that they charge a lot for their games because it means they don't have to shove microtransactions in everything like every other company in the industry.

When you factor in inflation, $60 is not even much money anymore. Games were essentially $100 when I was a kid.

Huh? I thought they were pretty consistent in their approach to not crunch employees to meet deadlines. They're far from a revolving door of new hires.

Most of their games are short and overpriced. Indie devs are releasing similar games at less than half the price.

They make more top tier games than Yea Forums will ever admit.

Getting rid of Virtual Console was still one of their biggest mistakes. Capcom, Konami and the others arent going to lend out Mega Man and Castlevania to a streaming service when they can get way more money doing their own compilations (except for the Genesis CV and Contra games apparently). Nintendo's also being too cheap to license out plenty of other games that aren't big compilation magnets (Axelay, Robotrek, Skyblazer, Final Fight 3, Sparkster, R-type III, Bubble Bobble, Ninja Gaiden II, Life Force, etc) and instead they're going for the literal cheapest IPs they can find. The fact Claymates is on the SNES app means someone from Nintendo reached out to Interplay and rather than pay for the rights to put Clayfighter on the app, openly picked the cheaper option.

At the same time, Nintendo would probably fuck it up again by dripfeeding the same shitty way they are now on top of charging 5 dollars for Urban Champion because this company is run by out of touch senile Japs. Why they didn't launch this shit without all three DKC games when they fully own the rights is a mystery.

"VC should be brought back" isn't the hottest take, but it never leaves my head whenever I think about it.

I think the most egregious overpricing they did was $60 for Kirby Star allies which was still a $20 game with the updates. I wouldn't compare this to apple adding 300-400 dollars to their products for the apple tax.

Oh this explains things. Yeah I think everyone agrees that Nintendo's pricing outside of America and Japan is pretty awful. Most companies take the hit with the higher taxes but Nintendo passes those taxes on to consumers.

They're the most incompetent company of the 3. If they ever had as much multiplat support as the others, there would be little reason to own any other console.

Wii/DS were the last great Nintendo consoles. Wii U/3DS both suffered from trash marketing and but both at least had heart and some life to them. Switch is the most soulless console Nintendo has ever made and since it's making them money, they'll keep making the rest of their consoles the more barebones and boring they can be in the name of "efficiency" and staying modern.
