his dialogue in TFA was just standard MCU quipshit, and felt completely out of place in Star Wars

The sequels hyped up countless things they dropped or half-assed. Remember the Knights of Ren? Completely forgotten in the second movie, lazy brought back for a bit in the third. Fucking Snoke was just a stand-in for the first 2 movies. God, Snoke's use was aweful.

One has to remember that he wasn't some disciplined Jedi (Obi, Qui-Gon, etc.) an extremely humble MC (Luke), a cocky and hardened bounty hunter (Han Solo), or a badly written edgelord (young Annie) we've seen before. He was just some random storm strooper in his early twenties. The first scenes of him being dumbfounded by all these stuff make sense, especially with how he thought the force could just be harnessed to turn the war at will.

Maybe I'm being way too nice to the character, but I'm just incredibly upset how much they wasted things that could have been good...

They made TR-8R a member of Finn's squad during training and did nothing with it. He could have been Finn's rival throughout the sequels, replacing Phasma due to her embarrassing failures and general incompetence.
Then we got Rian. Though I doubt JJ would have done anything with it.

The fucking Magnaguard has maybe the longest quest in the game. It's my most wanted figure too dude.

TR-8R could have been like a Terminator character for Finn, someone he kept losing to but slowly got better at matching, eventually taking him out during the third movie. Imagine if he did replace Phasma though, after showing her up during one of the fights or something.

Imagine if the damages from the grenade launcher had him return with some upgraded and android-like looking armor. Dude had so much potential. It's proof you can't manufacture a Boba Fett. The fans chose Boba and then chose TR-8R, but the writers of the sequels were arrogant enough to ignore that. They wanted THEIR ideas to work.

It's his helmet removal. Him being an edgy and quick to anger guy absolutely works when he never takes his helmet off. The moment he took it off, it revealed a face people didn't expect him to look like and turned out looking nerdy and tryhard.

From what I remember: too many quips. I’d have to rewatch for a deeper analysis, but I don’t think I could get through it. I do remember him being “the bad guy” for questioning the “brilliant leader” Holdo, in a conflict that was completely unnecessary.

I really wanted Finn to be the MC of the sequel trilogy back when it was announced.
They made it seem that way at first too.
He was the first face we saw in the teaser trailer, and he was holding the lightsaber in much of the promotional posters and trailers.
Then the movie came out and it's Rey/Luke-Skywalker II.

It's such a shame really, because just the concept of a Storm Trooper turned Jedi was RIGHT THERE and would've made for a great story.
It should've been a no brainer to anyone with competent writing skills.

I've been calling out these threads all week. But frankly, I think my job is done at this point. The game is bad and most people see how deeply inferior it is to previous LEGO Star Wars games at this point, so the marketers have nothing left to say. Not to mention, these LEGO games are very much baby tier and not that many people are falling for the shill bullshit anyway.

Please, Luke's actor wish it was that. He was so disappointed when it turned out he would be jobbing for Rey. He even expressed his disappointment in some interviews. It would've absolutely have been. The idea that not only an "evil" storm trooper could make a change, but the idea that literally anyone who knew the difference from right and wrong could be a hero. They instead went with destiny and powerful bloodlines all over again. Rey was related to a super powerful Sith and the force CHOSE her to make the change. Pic related was aweful.

hyperspace kamikaze is the only thing 8 did wrong and i will stand by that. i do not understand the lack of lenience (with the expansion of possibilities and ideas for the universe) for tlj in particular. the casino is a perfect example; no one complains about mos eisley fuckery in ep 4, podracing in ep 1, 90% of episode 2, or the ewok bullshit in ep 6 nearly as much as i see complaints about the casino in 8.
tl;dr: 8 is the best star wars since the ot, and the only reason you hate it is OLD THING GOOD NEW THING BAD

The third movie ends with Finn beating him, but having grown as a Jedi, and understanding that the Storm Troopers themselves aren't problem, but the system that indoctrinates them, he spares TR-8R. This leaves room for the myriad of spin off books and material starring TR-8R, as he breaks away from The First Order/Empire, and becomes an anti-hero.
