SEO fucking ruined the internet and videogame websites in particular.
This is just a single example but these retarded repetitions of keyword phrases make my blood boil. They don't make the websites for people to read, they make them for google bots to scan.
What do "videogame journalists" even do if all their articles look like they were machine generated?
I observed that a lot of Elden Ring bosses are hard, when you keep your distance, and a lot easer if you hug them.

Holy shit thank you, I thought I was the only one who hated this shit. I didn't even know it was SEO or exactly why it pissed me off so much until now. I hate how whenever you google how to beat a specific boss in a game, all you get are these faggot gaming journalist articles that are just trying to cash in on the latest popular game. Before, the results would be stuff like GameFAQs threads or guides written by actual fans who are genuinely just trying to be helpful. These new gaming journalist guides that are always the default result are so fucking soulless and I hate the way they're written.
I fucking hate it, whenever I google something I stumble upon hundreds of sites like these and they just beat around the bush "What is Elden Ring?" "Who is the first boss?" "Why should you beat it"?
JUST FUCKING ANSWER FFS. Not in this particular case, it's just an example, thank god for the fucking ER wiki for when I want to find a particular armor piece or something.

SEO needs to be a capital crime on grounds of aesthetics alone.
Ayden Hughes
>do you need to beat margit Kinda no, you can bypass stormveil altogether, kill renalla and radahn, then go to the capital and kill morgott & margit won't spawn in the ambush

i miss gamefaqs brehs

Owen Cox
World of warcraft is doing it with their expansions now which is even funnier. Making shadowlands after shadowbringers (their main competitor) came out is so shameless. MMO + Shadow is good SEO for a struggling company I guess
Nathan Edwards
I found this guy hard initially because I didn't unlock LEVELLING UP before challenging him. Yes I am a 'tard
Carter Hughes
>can't read >"Why yes, I am in fact a tard!" checks out
Hudson Evans
I wouldn't go that far but I have noticed it with ER's release for sure. Every time I've gone with generic words looking for something interesting and novel like Iron Pinapple's mechanic breakdowns it's all stuff like this. Especially grinding/tierlist/reaction videos. It's like it's all for people who aren't really playing the game and just want vicarious experiences.

It's been hell trying to find anything slightly "out of the ordinary" lately, you get flooded with similar, but more "common" results all from gorillion shitty clickbait blogs. >have LG smart TV >in the past I could send a yt video from my smart phone yt app to TV's yt app even if the TV is off, the TV will turn on automatically >shit doesn't work like that anymore >this feature still works with a set top box from my ISP that also has a yt app >try to find about this weird behavior >nothing but HERES HOW 2 WATCH YOUTUBE ON UR TEE VEE!!! :) results and similar
Henry Cooper
Literal retarded autistic women can beat him, why can't normalfags?
James Kelly
the internet is ruined for searches now Always need several quotes or minus key phrases so you can get rid of all that garbage
I usually add +forum or something similar for anything videogame related
Daniel Cooper
It hurts my soul but I usually just type "reddit" after the search. Atrocious website design aside, I can at least see community reactions and genuine thoughts instead of the machine shit
Easton Cox
very funny retard, I clapped. Now answer the question.

Speaking as someone who used to write articles designed to be maximally SEO'd, yeah, they're not designed to be read by humans. I worked in business news, not video games, but it was the same formula and I'm confident I could write the same articles for Kotaku or whatever. For what it's worth the people who write these are being overworked and underpaid. Most places have monthly article minimums and only pay per article, plus maybe some extra for every 1000 hits, so you stick to the style and just churn out as much as you can. It's sub-minimum wage unless you're some kind of savant though, just because hitting a word count with such a simple, dry style is very difficult.
Anyway, the point is that people will click them by virtue of these articles showing up first on Google results, and that means people will pay to advertise on the site. If the user doesn't read the article or clicks away after seeing that it's over-SEO'd, robotic garbage? Oh well, doesn't show up in the metrics you show to advertisers so who cares. Yeah it sucks and it's very slowly making the web and google impossible to use but what are you gonna do. Thank god I'm in a real job now.
Logan Brooks
Search Engine Optimization. Basically it's a way of organizing your web page so that it shows up higher on the list of a given google search. So in this example, if people were searching for "Elden Ring Margit" or "Margit the Fell Omen" then a page that has a ton of references to the character's full name would show up before a page that was written in a more human-like style. In most cases when people write about a single character they use the name once or twice, then refer to them with pronouns. But that tanks your SEO, so instead you write out the full name every time. It looks retarded but Google's bots like it, so here we are.
Yup, SEO is slowly making the web unusable. It sucks but if you add "reddit" or "forum" to your queries it can help for finding specific stuff.
According to this list, cheating isn't cheating. If you cheated, you beat the game.
Logan Smith
If a particular boss is hard or even what game it is, is absolutely not the topic of this thread. I don't know if Yea Forums is just full of retards or if bots make these posts but we're discussing how Google SEO has ruined the internet, and videogame websites in particular.
imagine being a videogame “journalist”. you write glorified youtube comments. imagine majoring in English LMAO. hup hup little libtard arts major. write more inane useless shit, you get $0.05 per word and that $250k student debt isn’t going to pay for itself.
At least with wiki articles it's somewhat forgivable as it's a collaborative project where people might just be adding their own discoveries piecemeal to an article, and you need to keep an "academic" tone. With dedicated commercial websites though it's inexcusable.
Tyler Lopez
Fextralife is extremely guilty of aggressively seo'ing their pages to the level of absurdity. Adding "Elden Ring Map here" after every single line is not accidental. Every paragraph of every article consists of these braindead chants of repeated keyword phrases.
Zachary Wood
I have fucking hated the Fextralife wiki since DS1. It was so much lower quality than the wikidot one, and now I have to include "wikidot" in my searches for the pages to even show up
Colton Hill
Why Margit is so frustrating for new players and how to beat him (and that’s a good thing)
Lucas Scott
I'm old enough to remember when search engines were indexed alphabetically, and the internet will never go back to the "sweet spot" for useful searching that was 2004 - 2008.
For the record the alphabetical searching was worse than the SEO era, but at least when you did find something you got a short list of 100% relevant results (as opposed to 100+ pages of fake and bot sites).
David Brooks
God I hate ESL clippers.
Isaiah Flores
They make shit up if they can't post real information, just to have something to fill the pges with so their wiki gets ranked higher than competing ones. It doesn't matter to the googlebot if they have accurate information, just that they have something before competing wikis.
Matthew Flores
Especially over the last few years, google has become almost completely unusable. When trying to google for information on something or a solution to a problem, you used to get relevant pages. Now all you get are blatantly auto-generated articles
Connor Watson
the internet is truly a refined eutopia
Lucas Garcia

Christian Morgan
phone fucked me, tried to type ruined and it corrected to refined just proves me point really
Elijah Stewart
it's easier if you keep your vocabulary limited to 2-3 unmistakeable words, such as "sneed" or "faggot"
Zachary Peterson
I don’t know if it still works but you used to be able to put in any 3 digit number to google+Covid deaths and it would generate articles about deaths near you
Bentley Sullivan
>spend 5000 souls on a niche item for an easy boss >5000 souls in that stage can be used for something much more valuable elden ring is bloated
Carter Bell
To be fair sakura miko is a sweet and precious retard.
Elijah Myers
Works on Morgott, too.
Henry Hughes
you mean copy paste boss thats just as easy? why would i waste my time and effort on beating a boss i already know?
Gabriel Wood
There are tons of souls to go around due to the open-world and open-ended nature of the game. Margit is placed where he is specifically to instruct players that they don't need to and probably shouldn't just follow the graces to the first boss at base level and keep trying to smash their heads against a brick wall. You can explore the rest of limgrave, weeping peninsula, caelid, even go over to liurnia and bypass stormveil, if you want.
Christian Walker
Just stop using google. DuckDuckGo is alright, even Bing is better.
Landon Allen
exactly, and spend those souls on leveling up and upgrading your weapon, which will help you anywhere
Julian White
Maybe if the internet continues on this downward spiral i'll finally be encouraged to go out more
Jordan Price
DDG is my default engine and I always have to switch to G**gle because DDG's search is somehow even worse
Leo Phillips
That's unfortunate, DDG works well enough for me.
Mason Morales
duckduckgo is my default, but it still has the problem where the majority of my search results are useless auto-generated algorithm shit. It doesn't really matter the specific search engine, it's the botted auto-gen articles that are the problem
Connor Reyes
holy shit, reading comprehension = -1
Nathan Barnes
Yeah, the entire reason Google got big in the first place was because their website was minimal and gave much more useful results then Yahoo. And then they monetized the shit out of everything and people found out how to scam the Google search engine while Google itself gave up on needing to give useful results.
Carson Barnes
same. every year or so i try to switch, but eventually keep coming back because the results are trash.
Juan Wood
True, but what can you really do about that? We can hope that jewgle will improve their algo to prefer actually readable stuff over what it currently promotes, that's about it.
Dylan Davis
They won't answer until a word quota is reached. This is done to maximize ad revenue by making you scroll past more ads. Pointless if you're running an adblocker like anyone with an IQ above room temperature.
Are these comments SEO generated too? Also, I despise SEO, it makes searching anything tech related horrible. Often times if I have a tech question I will unironically append " reddit" to the end of my query because getting a humans opinion on a tech problem is infinitely more valuable than "TOP 10 TIPS TO FIX WINDOWS NOT WORKING 2022". I fucking hate the internet sometimes.
NOOOOOOOOOO DONT MAKE AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT, I WANT TO FIND OUT ON GAMEFAQS OR REDDIT FIRST!!!!
Brayden Brooks
Not being able to do anything about it isn't going to stop me from complaining. That said, you can kinda get around the bullshit by including specific website names in your search.
For example "how do I X" might give horrible auto-generated garbage results, but "how do I X +reddit" might give your results from real people with the same issue as you. Doesn't need to be reddit, although that's a decent catch-all due to how big it is. Same works with gamefaqs or any other forum specific to your inquiry .
And they hide their twitch stream on every single page. It's fucking incredible how twitch is aware that they're doing it and still don't crack down.
Leo Jones
This shit is the absolute worst with trying to find recipes online. You search for a recipe for something, and all the results are filled to the brim with adware and garbage. Even with adblockers you still have to scroll through a bunch of shit just to get to the fucking RECIPE. Shut the fuck up about how much "your hubby LOOOOVES this disherino!!!" just show me the fucking ingredient list and directions
