discount Dante is actually more than discount Dante

Hey I loved this game. I remember picking it up as a kid because it had atlus on the cover and it looked cool. Best blind buy I ever made. Shame we never got Exceed though.

Nier Gestalt was obscure before Automata's release
Black Souls is extensively talked about, but ONLY on Yea Forums (and maybe 2ch)
Hardly a game, but Symphonic Rain seems mostly overlooked in the vn community

It's not really a good game, the combat system is conceptually great but executed like complete ass since you basically have to spam items every battle to keep all your gauges up, and every single battle goes on for as long as a boss encounter regardless of whether it is or isn't
Haken is based though

>most incredible combat system I've ever played in a JRPG
That's no TWEWY and they were on the same system. Great game though

Fuckin loved this game, combat was sick, i liked the characters, and all the girls were hot. Shame exceed never came over.

I'll give the VN a shot, last time I trusted random a post with a literal who VN namedropped out of nowhere it was Seabed and I'm glad I did

Attached: 1596412572601.gif (256x192, 1.03M)

Glad to see others with great taste.
I dunno if Gestalt was obscure but I was also more into those circles at the time.
I play mostly fighting games and RPGs so for me the combination of the turn based aspects with build a bear combos that required precision timing and assists was a godsend.
I never really spammed items, but it is one of the few games where I felt like I actually could use items comfortably. You also didn't always go for full combos, sometimes you went cheap and easy. Structuring your combo to fit your playstyle.
Personally I always went for the hidden cancels for more super meter so that I always had super ready by the fourth character.

>Symphonic Rain.
My brother from another mother. That VN is probably my favorite one ever, plus actually a very good game.
OP, if you're going to play it, and you should, do it on Hard Mode.

Getting a double rec put it on my list.

Viewtiful Joe

Cheers, user. Hope you enjoy it
Well, I wasn't - which is why that random recommendation from Yea Forums back in 2014 really stuck in my mind
I actually got filtered and had to reduce the difficulty to normal, I'm not normally into rhythm games. Might boot it up just for fun and this time actually get good at the game

What game is this?

The game itself is a sort of Guitar Hero, but you play with the keyboard. There's a rather small selection of songs, but they all reflect very well on each of the heroines. You'll likely be too busy going full mozart to notice the lyrics, however, specially if you play on hard.
The plot is very melancholic, and that might stem from the composer being on his deathbed while making the game. Dude died IIRC either shortly after, or even before the game actually came out.
It's a really simple game, but over a decade later, and it's the one VN I remember from my VN phase, back when Kawata Shoujo was originally released.

outside of some threads i don’t see many people mention lisa the painful
>interesting story
>well written dark humour
>fun combat
>great music

easily in my top 3

JAN JAN BARI BARI UTE!

It's one of the more recognisable rpgmaker games, wouldn't call it THAT obscure, but can confirm it's pretty good

Jyaki gun-oh?
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation Saga: Endless Frontier.
youtube.com/watch?v=b6duBOlwiVk&list=PLZ2KZPnnEDUZh-pePW7ulHgv-QZjC-Ibg

Probably the most neglected title from Operation Rainfall.

>mastepiece
Sorry but its just a clunky and barely serviceable dungeon crawler.

How is it clunky? The chainmechanics work extremely well, infact they make combat almost trivial since you can deal obscene amounts of damage once you've mastered them.

Pandora's tower is one of two games I say the Wii motion controls truly enhanced the experience.
The other being Metroid Prime 3.
youtube.com/watch?v=tywjeaWpSX4
I liked the mishmash of dating sim and dungeon diving.
The only reason I refuse to suggest this title to folks is the literal game breaking glitch for the final two dungeons

That's exactly why people should stick either with the PAL version or with emulation. The latter also offers far better visuals so it's a win-win.

How could this posterior be considered anything less than a masterpiece?

Attached: golden ass.png (885x418, 493.64K)

Uh bros, you know there's a fan translation for Exceed that covers the whole game, right?

>press A for combat
Shallow game that uses tiddies to cover up mediocrity

confirmed for not playing the game. It's more in-depth than crap like FFXV

As an SRW fan I played both the original and Exceed. Shit combat, shit characters, shit game.

I would say The Way. It's a pretty old RPG Maker game, but it had a thrilling, unique story and a fun dueling system.

EXCEED was fully translated over a year ago

I actually can't find the steam link for it.

It's not on Steam, it was made back before everyone put their RPG Maker games on Steam.

It's not the same, having to play a game with a script besides you.

You are a hero.

Attached: 1648602820759.png (1538x657, 150.7K)

script beside you? It's a patch that you can patch in
HF
always remember Suzuka best girl (in game too because of her 200+ combos that give you 20% sp back every time which allows you to spam spirits)

Attached: trance.gif (256x192, 550.96K)

NGL I never cared much for Suzuka in the original simply because it felt harder to make meter fast with her. Maybe I just didn't experience enough to find good cancels.

Well she does have the spirit that builds meter faster and it goes well with her combos. Also again as stated above, you can spam spirits all you want. And finally the big change in EXCEED is that the Frontier Gauge stays between battles so that is also huge.

Huh, back in my day we only had a translated script.

The future is incredible.
Playing through the imported EXCEED was a blur from my early college days so this is basically gonna be a fresh experience, thanks for the heads up. I'll try to give her more love.

Yeah I remember that I played it in japanese and beat it even the dragon tower and would sometimes follow the script but the patch came out just a year or so ago

I can hear that intro
god bless nana mizuki

Why did you drop your combo user?
Was it Kaguya?

Live a Live
>art by top tier manga artists including Shimamoto
>uniformly bad ass stories across a variety of settings
>ending brings it all together
And now a soulless "remake" is gonna tarnish all discussion with "fans" that always loved Live a Live, but never played it (like Earthbound)!

FORCED
EVASION

here's a protip with kind of a spoiler so see if you want but this is what makes Suzuka god tier in EXCEED
Eventually at some point you get T-elos as an assist, her assist attack is U-Teneritas which makes an orb freezing an enemy in place while damaging it. With this freezing orb, you can still attack normally and use one of Suzuka's later skills Jyaki Gun Celebration which will have Jyaki Gun Oh go up to the enemy and start spraying confetti upwards. Normally this bounces them up and does moderate damage but with the U-Teneritas holding an enemy in place, not only does all the confetti now hitting do MASSIVE damage, it also pretty much guarantees 200+ combos every time for simply one attack without even using an OD. You can also do this twice per attack with her spirit, co-op and again with that much combos giving back SP you can just spam spirit. Also her 2nd OD is ridiculous too.

Attached: Suzuka-Hime.jpg (567x871, 371.35K)

never cared for the direction of the sequels but the original is superb

Attached: 7th_Dragon.jpg (333x299, 26.35K)

I love how CUHRAZY the combos can get

Attached: haken combos.webm (640x360, 2.78M)

Kaguya can be made brain dead easy because her combos aren't that great since you have other members of your party that can combo and build FG better
so the way to go with Kaguya is to actually take advantage of her massive damage. i.e. go 5x crescent slash, the first skill seen here
youtu.be/NSvzB62dGio?t=2
Also whenever you do have the FG full, try to buff up Kaguya as hard as you and and use her OD. It's the most ridiculous in terms of pure power.

Last Showdown is held back by existing in a 2D game.

>Nier Gestalt was obscure before Automata's release
It wasnt obscure at all.
It was just badly rated.
Which is deserved as its a 6/10 game.
And it had/has the popularity of a 6/10 game.
Just how the remake stopped being talked about as well by now.

Don't know if I'd call it a masterpiece, but Akiba's Trip is the one game that I always come back and play at least once a year. The story is pretty light and for a 3D beat em up I think it's pretty fun. Only problem with the game is that I wish it was a bit longer with more side quests. Definitely consider it a hidden gem.

mah nigga
I had so much fun with this game when I played it way back when on the vita and it was truly just oozing soul. Someday I'll play it again on PC and finish the routes I didn't finish i.e. Rin

Attached: typical v.jpg (960x544, 137.76K)

Akiba 2 is like a shittier Way Of The Samurai game, it's alright but it should be much better than that

Well it's not much consolation but you should see Haken's 2nd OD in EXCEED then.

Nice. I'm actually playing it on my phone. It works pretty well with mobile emulation cause it's turn based than real time and you can still time combos and assists pretty well. But then again I was also crazy enough to emulate TWEWY on my phone so maybe I'm just used to it.
