Why are Metroidvanias so comfy?
Why are Metroidvanias so comfy?
axiom verge was crap and the sequel is somehow even worse
Post best metroidvanias.
Also, are there 3d ones?
based
HK and ori 2 are the only good modern metroidvanias (plus metroid itself)
there MUST be something that comes close to HK and Ori WOTW.... Right????
>are there 3d ones?
yes
Valdis Story usually goes under the radar, have 90 hours in it, and that's all pretty much playing one out of the 4 characters to choose from. Great music too.
youtube.com
Castlevania Curse of Darkness is my favorite metroidvania.
Rogue Legacy 1 and 2
Gato Roboto
Olija
Momodora
Hyper Light Drifter
Lost Ruins
ENDER LILIES
Eldest Souls
Chasm
Blasphemous
Those are my favorites that I can think of off the top of my head that aren't
Very based, great game.
Environmental Station Alpha is great and hugely underrated. Made by the same guy that later went on to make Baba is You.
Oh, one more I enjoyed:
The Messenger
Most of these are tranime shit.
Death's Door
I didn't make this but here
awful list
I wanted to like Death's Door but le quirky humor really began to grate on me about halfway through the game.
>Ori
Are you a 12 year old girl or a tranny?
Nothing comes close to HK and Guacamelee sadly. Literally everything else is pure garbage.
Nah, I'd split those two apart. Axiom Verge was above average, while the sequel is legitimately one of the worst games in the genre.
>momodora
>great
Lol, lmao even
SotN, Aria of Sorrow, Rabi-Ribi, Bloodstained.
Dark Souls 1, Devil May Cry 3
the rest: WGAF, including Hollow Shite.
Pretty bad list. Hollow Knight should be down a tier. ESA is definitively meh. Kurovadis is extremely meh with it's good point being that it's an animated hentai game, not a worthwhile Metroidvania, and I also question why it's even in the list when it segmented Cave Story off into the "not Metroidvania" category. Maze of Galious being listed as meh makes it seem like a troll image.
This list feels more like someone who just scooped up random opinions on the internet and slapped together a list.
I've never played a comfy one besides Dark Souls 1.
What about isometric metroidvania like Hyper Light Drifter and Death's Door? Anything else?
>Hollow Knight should be down a tier
hell no
based, Guacamelee is underrated
>Tomba!/Tombi
>metroidvania
Genre classing is a mental illness for many
anyone try the demo of this? looks decent but a little bland
>Literally everything else is pure garbage.
I will never understand this mentality, learn to have fun
store.steampowered.com
this looks decent too, discovered it yesterday
is F.I.S.T. any good?
>but a little bland
the fuck does that mean
exactly what it says?
have you played the games?
spoilers: you haven't
Would the old Oddworld games be considered Metroidvania?
>exactly what it says?
you will never be happy
the most soulful and best genre of games
they're not, they're cinematic platformers and don't really have an interconnected map, you can't go back to certain places and there's no item/ability gating
the only real non-linear aspect of the original would be choosing between Paramonia and Scrabania
that said, a metroidvania cinematic platformer is my dream game
what's the game on bottom right?
why does Capcom never make metroidvanias? the closest they got is Demon's Crest and Shinsekai: Into the Depths which barely anyone played
I wish to fuck they'd try them out
La-Mulana
I liked these two. If you have Game Pass, the second is still in it.
would like these guys to make one too
>Also, are there 3d ones?
Batman Arkham Asylum and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.
Can't rely on Capcom, just the companies founded by their former staff (pic related).
Are you going to kill yourself asap?
bump
This, Tombi is a metroidvania but somehow Castlevania OoE is not
Could be great, they would surely put their twist to the genre
It's missing the Lodoss War one above the holy trinity.
is this good yet?
never mind, seems like it's getting a huge DLC overhaul that'll affect the base game too, will wait for that
it's a shame this seems to happen a lot with metroidvanias; same thing happened with Blasphemous
Why has no one mentioned the prime series?
I’m playing ender lillies now. I only got completely lost once and had to lpok it up since I thought I did some sequence breaking and got to an area and couldn’t progess. Thought I was missing some key mechanic and just turned out I was an idiot. I’m enjoying it though.
>it's a shame this seems to happen a lot with metroidvanias
basically every game
My favourite 3d metroidvania is Prime.
I'm a stickler for them though. I don't like really retro pixely styles, nor do I really like metroid style shooting or 'vania style loot and levelling. I like nice 2d art, usually a sombre dark soulsy tone and lots of notes and lore to read.
My most recent couple of favourites have been:
>Hollow Knight
>Ender Lillies
>Blasphemous
>Shinsekai: Into the Depths
how good is this?
not sure if Rain World is a metroidvania
>how good is this?
I don't know, play it yourself
People complain a lot about the term "metroidvania", but I really never found myself looking at a game tagged as such and thinking "uh,that's totally different from what I was expecting"
It's hard to explain, but it work
That said, with time the term got more generic and they tried many different things with it to the point some "metroidvania" games just vaguely fit the term (but again, it still work somehow)
>Shinsekai: Into the Depths
That one look cool,but...
>Switch exclusive
eh.
It's not it's just mental illness
I mean rain world.
Blasphemous is very good and has nice platforming
not a metroidvania, but Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee might interest you anyway. fuck what I wouldn't do for an Oddworld metroidvania
download the Revision 2 ROM here:

some tips:
>rolling lets you stop instantly (unlike running)
>run into a jump for ledges, don't stop dead underneath it to climb
>you can throw items from off-screen to the other
>sneaking into unexplored rooms is a good habit
>the mount is immune to bees
>when sprint jumping with the mount, you can get a bit further to an edge than you think, pay attention to his back legs when test jumping
i really like the visuals. enemy designs etc.
if you decide to play it, make sure to donate 20k to the church as soon as possible. it unlocks warping between save points. i had no idea that was possible until last week when i replayed, and had a miserable time. also fucking missable quests.
Image makes me feel good
Not a metroidvania
It's an amazingly crafted 2D platformer.
I know playing as a tiny cute critter will turn insecure bitches like you away, but put your pathetic masculinity aside and just play it, pussy.
It's good but a little rough around the edges. I generally liked it but I wish the lore and mythos were less wordy and indulgent. Like you don't need to give me a 3 page short story in every item description dude. But that's more of a personal pet peeve.
Also yeah I wouldn't call it one either hut there were enough traces for me to throw it into that image.
I mean it's also on phones. It's good.
Played Abe's Exodus when I was a babby. Always been curious but I've found it hard to get ahold of the originals and don't wanna play new n tasty.
>Not a metroidvania
yes, it is
>game is made up of a bunch of interconnected areas, complete with unlockable shortcuts and hidden paths to new parts of previously explored areas.
>has multiple entirely optional areas that must be discovered through exploration
Not him, but it definitely is.
Just played through the whole demo. It was alright, moderately challenging and the combat was fun. My biggest gripe with it was the UI, it was pretty clunky.
