Can someone explain to me the general air of pessimism about this game? Is it due to the early access reviews?
Baldur's Gate 3
>Original Baldur's Gate fans want something like the original game
>Obsidian drones obsess over every WRPG that isn't made by their favorite studio
>Story heavy games are pretty much irrelevant until they are actually complete
>Larian made a retarded post about what kinds of characters people made
>Larian writing is kinda mediocre most of the time
That should sum up most complaints i've seen. It's pretty much Div OS 2, 2. Which is fine by me because i've been wanting a good coop game for a while now but I can understand why some people might not be happy.
The complaint about their comment about races is retarded. If you play DND you know how often people make non human races and subraces and shit. They put a lot of work into non human races, saw that by far basic white human male was picked and were surprised, so they joked people should give others a try.
Only fucking retards would take it in any political way, which this website is 96% fucking retards so it's no surprise really there's "outrage". Can't believe I breathe the same air as you mongoloids
they also decided to release the evil/chaotic characters first to receive feedback but it made me just ignore their edgy asses and make a local party of 4 custom characters instead
they said it would in EA for a year and now it's been 2
>Larian writing is kinda mediocre most of the time
Did the 2 Baldur's Gate games have a good story? Its the usual 'villian outsmarts hero right up to the final act' tale.
>Larian made a retarded post about what kinds of characters people made
Journos and always angry Yea Forumsirgins here went full retard with this one. It wasnt about "white men bad", they just expected more creativity from the players and thats all. But both political tribes wanted something to fight about and so they made it political.
small indie Belgian studio affected by the plague, please understand.
>they also decided to release the evil/chaotic characters first to receive feedback
I read this pretty often when the game had it's first version out but never saw a source for it. Can you point me to where it's been stated by the devs?
For some reason Larian decided to make a wierd softcore porn game rather than an actual CRPG.
It's from an interview they did with Screen Rant in 2020
>It's pretty much Div OS 2, 2
Which is retarded since it's supposed to be Baldur's Gate, not Cuckvinity
I give zero fucks about any political implications(or lack there of), I just think it's cringe to add a character creator in-game and then being disappointed when players use it in a way they didn't hope for. People who are going to play fantasy races will play fantasy races, people who just make human males to self insert will still do that regardless of how many other options they have.
Isnt thats the case with every western AAA rpg nowadays? DA, Witcher, Mass Effect, KCD. Not gonna be surprised if even Todd will go this route.
>Obsidian drones obsess over every WRPG that isn't made by their favorite studio
Why they like that?
I got the constant feeling of missing out while playing the game.
Fail a roll and dont get a sweet companion or a side quest is pretty shit design
I'm not saying it was a good thing to post from their side just that everyone went schizo over "political statement" that wasnt even there .
in short: sadbrained zoomers pretending to be butthurt over a game they didn't play not being a direct sequel to another game they didn't play, because youtubers told them so
It's as much Baldur Gate as the rest but it takes place 100+ years later which was the plan for the original BG3 they canned in 2004.
Unlike BG2 you actually go to Baldur's Gate and the story will later involve the Bhaalspawn and the Dead Gods
Could have been finished by now but instead they spend all their time animating gay little cutscenes that don't work right most of the time. Game is good but at this rate we won't see it until 2026.
Is this using the same engine as OS2?
It's been on EA for 2 or 3 years, release date keeps getting pushed back
An updated version yes
5th edition just seems so boring, especially after Pathfinder games which clearly took a lot inspiration from 3.5.
Also how are these hacks doing a third early access after the massive success of DOS2?
Thanks, I'll look it up when I have time to sift through screen rant's awful site.
Any idea when we're supposed to get the remaining characters?
Will it be released for ipad in that case?
Who gives a shit what city you go to? Baldur's Gate was a concluded story, there was literally nothing left to tell. There was no reason whatsoever to dig up a 2 decade old franchize instead of just making your own IP.
No idea
How the fuck is this shit like 100GB?
It's not even a single act?
>Baldur's Gate III was originally set to be released in early access on 30 September 2020
Jesus felt so long ago
Does it have a decent chunk of content yet or nah? Still wait for "release" is the plan?
Personally I think that "jack of all trades" approach is a bad thing and blame Todd for normalising it. Started to restrict myself from vacuuming all contect within rpgs and focusing on something that fits my character, games became much more enjoyable that way. Currently playing Kingdom Come and deliberately ignore all stealth and thieveing quests since my character is a noble and honest tin can with a longsword.
Is it just me or does the movement feel sluggish? Like it doesn't respond right away
if they aren't completely retarded it was just a joke post maybe to make people talk about the game, if you have all the dnd races, 80% of players pick non humans and 20% pick humans the most popular race will be human
>Pathfinder games which clearly took a lot inspiration from 3.5
The only reason why Pathfinder exists is because D&D decided they wanted to make pen&paper WoW. The existing players wanted more 3.5, so they got it under a different label. I've never actually met anybody who plays Pathfinder 2ed, so no idea if they eventually casualized as well.
Progress is glacial. I tried the first early access version on release and everything was super janky, the opening act on the airship barely held together, with your characters teleporting across the map for cutscenes and constant crashes.
This year I tried the most recent version they released in... February? And the opening act is still a complete mess. But hey, they add another class or race every year or so.
Thank god I don't buy into early access, I'd feel completely scammed.
From what I understand, they drip feed some of the content when they update but keep a lot of it out for the main game. I remember reading early on that they were going to stop updating the game at a certain milestone and just finish the rest for full release but I don't know if that's the plan anymore.
2e is more streamlined and has no prestige classes but other than that it's not much of a downgrade.
I mean the storytelling in baldur’s gate 1 + 2 was top notch. In it’s day.
Went back and tried them again all these years later and it’s actually better left to nostalgia. They’re pretty outdated. And 2 still holds up despite that but 1 is honestly paper thin as far as character development etc went, it was just ahead of it’s time when I was younger.
I’ll definitely try baldur’s gate 3 when it’s done, but I’ll wait on the complete package.
I mean it’s baldur’s gate made by the divinity studio. Obsidian isn’t coming back in it’s old form, they will never make another baldur’s gate.
And better them than the guys who did baldur’s gate siege of dragon whatever. Literal tranny added to the game.
I’ll take larian over that BS happily.
Nostalgia. Like I said this shit isn’t as good as it was when we were young but to fans who truly loved it in it’s day and still cling to that, there’s really no pleasing them because the memory is better than the reality.
BG1 already seemed pretty basic compared to BG2 back then, I made the mistake of playing the second one first and expecting more of the same when I got the first.
Why not revisit the world. Not too many people playing baldur’s gate for the first time anymore. Hasn’t aged well.
Uncensored lesbian sex is pretty based in my book
Baldur's Gate 1 was a honest, simple and competent adventure campaign. It actually felt very refreshing replaying it recently compared to all the pretentious wannabe philosophical writing and the snark and layers of irony that are common in many modern day wRPGs.
you can fuck halflings, dwaves ,gnomes and goblins
It was pretty barebones, but there wasn’t anything else like it back then. Like I see people cooing over the characters but there is nearly zero character development in it. You get a few character conversations and maybe one quest for each.
Todd has no reason to go this route since players will turn his game into full hardcore anyway
But in general I blame DA, they made one good game with sex scenes and romance now everyone wants it too
>Larian writing is kinda mediocre most of the time
But buldur's gate 3 writing is not that bad. But at this point the hype around the game is gone and instead of pushing the game into a finished state they released another fucking class, lol&lmao
>Can someone explain to me the general air of pessimism about this game? Is it due to the early access reviews?
it's mostly people who played BG1 & 2 back then and cannot come to terms with that BG1 and B2 were never that good to begin with and have aged horribly. Hating on BG3 is a cope mechanism.
Because there is nothing special about that world. Bioware just picked a random square off the Swordcoast and made that their game's setting. All the fond memories people have of Baldur's Gate is because of the game itself, not because of the setting.
The games had a huge modding community back then, that helped a a lot. I would expect most nostalgia fags had the banter mod installed.
Games based on PNP can not age as long as they keep up with modern day resolutions.
>instead of pushing the game into a finished state they released another fucking class
What are you talking about? How does releasing a class in the EA build have any affect on what they have finished on the final build? All of the classes in the game including monk and paladin had some work done on them in the first released build. All the playable races, including half orcs, duergar and dragon born, had foot prints in the very first build.
I really don't know what the fuck were they expecting. The originals are 20 years old and the engine is outdated
It was full price for a fairly mediocre Divinity clone demo focusing on low level 5th edition combat which is terrible with botched classes. The characters are mostly annoying but I expect that from Larian at this point. Also every "major" patch that barely adds anything forces me to start from scratch. The first couple times was annoying but Divinity did that as well, it was stupid then too but now its especially bad with how terrible low level dnd is. At this point I am completely tired of replaying 1-5 garbage again and it's been years. Any excitement I had for the game completely lost all momentum right around the time Solasta/Wrath
released and I finished multiple playthroughs of both. I'll come back when it launches in fucking 2028.
I find it funny that zoomers think Larian in any way modernized cRPGs when in reality, they just went all the way back to the early 90s in terms of gameplay. The turn based combat in DoS 2 used to be the standard before Bioware revitalized the dying cRPG genre by introducing real time with pause.
But Kingdom Come made missing out quests a kinda reasonable thing.
>Go to town X because a plague ravages there
>dont do it because of other quests
>now everyone in town X is dead and the rest hates you because you didnt help
And will be for at least 2 more
>resorting to ageposting
I would laugh if it wasnt pathetic
>I find it funny that zoomers think Larian in any way modernized cRPGs when in reality, they just went all the way back to the early 90s in terms of gameplay. The turn based combat in DoS 2 used to be the standard before Bioware revitalized the dying cRPG genre by introducing real time with pause.
That's exactly why I said that BG1 and BG2 were never that good to begin with. The RTwP combat was always a stupid compromise of the worst things of both turn-based and real-time. Proper P&P RPGs are based on turns.
I'm talking about the barbarian/berserk. cause instead of working on finishing the game they are adding another class.
The game was supposed to come out on 2021, now 2023 is the "expected" release date.
Why the FUCK do people pull that "It's full price for a demo" garbage? YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE FINISHED GAME. Early access is a bonus. You can buy the game and just not play until the final release.
I actually prefer the Infinity Engine over Larian games. The verticality of the maps and camera angles are very annoying any not fun to navigate in DoS 2. Having one isometric camera angle and only one plane of the map just works much better for these types of games.
>Proper P&P RPGs are based on turns.
What "proper" P&P RPGs even existed before Baldur's Gate? Pool of Radiance? Eye of the Beholder? Are you talking about those kind of junk games from the early 90s? Baldur's Gate was the first proper P&P based cRPG with actual quality gameplay.
lmao reading comprehension
Fallout 1, GURPS
pretty sure you can rotate your camera on most of RPGs that ran on Infinity
Because it's full price and is currently a dogshit demo. Yes sven it'll be a game one day if your retarded Swedish ass can sit still long enough to finish it but I don't live several years in the future. I'll stop complaining about a bad unfinished product when it becomes a good finished product but in the meantime please suck my cock and balls.
Read the post; they are not working on things solely for the early access. This is stuff that has already been completed in the final build. They release what they want feedback on or to give players something to talk about until release.
nevermind I was thinking about Eclipse engine, my bad
It's bad because it's new.
Then wait and pay the exact same price later or buy it now and don't boot it up? How is it a bad thing that you can try the game now?
Not really. Pathwinder WotR was amazing. Larian just suck. If the BG licence had gone to Owlcat or Obsidian, there would be much more hype for this game and much less negativity. This is DoS 3, not Baldur's Gate 3.
In EA for far too long.
>WotR was amazing
was it better than the snoozefest that is Kingmaker?
Because it is a demo RIGHT NOW and has been for YEARS at this point.
It looks bad, and they look greedy for releasing it as a full priced game when it looks like an overly polished turd. I won't ever touch it because why would I? They have failed in their job to convince me to spend money on it.
They dedicated time and effort to those classes at some point during the development, it doesn't matter, the game is taking too long.
People called Broken Age a scam after Tim broke the release date by a year, Baldur's Gate 3 is getting a release after 2-3 years after it's original announcement, i think the pessimism is justified.
Because EA gives developers an incentive to be lazy and stretch out the development process. And why wouldn't they if the EA game keeps selling? Delivering a finished product is much less profitable than selling people a promise.
It's the exact same thing but with a broken army management game tacked on.
>Can someone explain to me the general air of pessimism about this game?
Sure, children are whiny impatient bitches. /thread
Your taste is beyond shit. Owlcat makes boring, repetitive trashfires, and Obsidian hasn't made a good game for 20 years.
