What do you call this character design?
What do you call this character design?
uninspired homosexuality
Le edgy depressed kid
yumme nikki is not a rpg
Are we still calling it Demday or did that not catch on?
Yume Nikki is not an RPG though.
Yume Nikki is also not EarthBound inspired. And Undertale is more OFF inspired than anything.
Nobody cares about details anymore, perception is everything.
god Toby Fox sucks at sprite work
Pixelshit
He's a musician, not an artist.
>mfw Kris is more sexualized than all of the others put together
The mother series has great sprites, I don’t know why you’d put those soulless hack designs next to them.
Good character design
Can we all agree that they're better than snoy AAA movie games.
>I can't afford an artist, so I hired my niece
He's homosexual, not heterosexual.
Yume Nikki is very fucking clearly mother inspired, holy shit you faggots forgot about the entirety of FC world
bonk
Also the first one would get dated the next “modern” software comes out
just a little guy
This level of cope.
overworld sprites
Isn't he the only one on the list that isn't a child?

And that's a good thing!
Omori is 12 but Sunny is at least 16
>more sexualized than Frisk
Oh man. No. Not yet, son.
Yeah, Mother inspired. Not Earthbound inspired.
This nigga thinks Mother was the only game on the famicom
bitch it's fucking dragon quest
Earthbound is at times basically a remake of Mother, it's splitting hairs when the idea is obvious
just the isometric angles and musical references disprove that
why do they all have striped shirts is my question
JapArts
Only by virtue of having a 3+ year head-start. The amount of artists that want to see these fuck is gonna give Kris the edge by the time we get the first paid chapters of Deltarune.
>I have never actually played Mother 1: the post
Omori uses a sleeveless black shirt
Wtf I’m literally Grimm now
Because the Mother boys had them and it's an easy way to add detail to a small character, like how Mario has overalls, mustache, etc. Stuff that would stand out on a TV screen.
>It's not Mario inspired, it's Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury inspired
Lmao I've seen this image 10 times and just now saw Alex YIIK
yeah what the fuck are you going on about? the crew is different the places you go are different the threat takes on a different form entirely magicant serves a completely different purpose and comes from something different. They are in the same world sure but Mother 2 doesn't come across as a remake if you actually played the game
>BRO THERE'S SO MANY QUIRKY EARTHBOUND INSPIRED GAMES!
>like what
>(insert same 5 answers here that usually aren't even earthbound inspired or came out over 5 years ago)
Where are all of these earthbound inspired games you twitterfags keep memeing about? No seriously I'd like to try some of them
I didn't think anybody still cared about my halfassed "make Yea Forums discuss videogames for once" thread
because the mother protagonists are slight variations on the same design, and because radiation is stuck in the mindset of an earthbound romhack
Thus the "not yet". Though plenty of Frisk content is still made. Yes eventually Kris will overtake by merit of being the boy of choice for Deltarune's girls and Deltarune being a longer term project than Undertale.
But at this moment, Frisk is the sex icon that outshines those other four combined.
None of these share all that much in common besides the first 4 having striped shirts, and those really only count as two characters since Lucas's shirt is a deliberate reference to Ness while Frisk's design is an iteration upon Kris's as a deliberate connection between the two.
Reminder Toby Fox and OMOCAT are Itoi approved, he hired them to work on official Mother collaboration mangas.
Once we get some indepth Kris backstory in the future chapters the porn is going to skyrocket
Sunny and Hero have the meme stripes, they're just vertical
I've never played an Earthbound like. Are they as generic as some anons itt say or different gameplay wise?
Those are just common PJs, though, I don't think that counts.
>so i did it myself
OMG BROS!!
SANS IS NESS CONFIRMED!!!
They're far from identical. Their biggest "failing" is that they tend to be ultimately positive even if they dip into weird/depressing territory on occasion, which many pseudointellectuals consider to make them "not actually deep".
>What is this character design
>one is completely different to the rest
>The others are just two from two different series.
you could play more than one game
>earthbound invented pajamas
That would be pretty different, yeah.
>meme stripes
Imagine being such an NPC that you articulate things this way.
Music references Is that a jojo reference
wild and silly
Pixel chibi.
gay
Earthbound and Mother 3 are iterations upon the old Dragon Quest style of RPG, and they're honestly pretty great versions of those. The most interesting twists, IMO, is that both games have one character who's very deliberately an item mule but with a couple extra esoteric systems to make them worthwhile even if they run out of items (Duster having weird gimmicky "Thief Tools", for example). Both games also have the HP tick upwards/downwards at a fixed rate based on a specific stat, which means if you can heal a character or end the fight before said character's HP hits 0, they won't die. Undertale/Deltarune are incredibly simplistic combat systems where each enemy functions as a mini dialog puzzle with occasional bullet hell patterns, though Deltarune (so far, given that it's unfinished) does this far better by having more resource management at play with 3 party members that have unique actions and a TP meter split between the 3, as well as improving the bullet dodging sections by adding a "graze" mechanic that both awards TP and ends turns faster the more you do it.
Haven't played Omori, but I've heard its combat systems are pretty neat, too. Jimmy And The Pulsating Mass is another "Earthbound inspired" indie RPG that has some really neat mechanics in the form of the main character having a shitload of different jobs that can be freely swapped between and a "Steal" mechanic that's used really creatively.
Most of the games in that picture have some kind of twist on generic RPG gameplay, Undertale / Deltarune have shmup twists, Omori has tag moves and emotional buff/debuffs, Earthbound is honestly pretty generic and Mother 3 has a rhythm combo system
Aside from being somewhat basic rpgs
Off, Omori, Undertale, LISA, Hylics and YIIK all have somewhat unique and interesting combat mechanics.
But lets be honest here
No one plays MOTHER games for the gameplay, we play it (atleast i do) for the story, theme and the overall experience
And they all got something different to say
If I was to rate them I'd go
MOTHER 1 > MOTHER 3 > EarthBound = LISA > OFF > Undertale > Omori > Deltarune chapter 1 > powergap > Deltarune chapter 2
Didnt play yiik and Hylics (yet)
but user
Frisk and Kris don't have defined genders
