You can opt to just block the first part then run away but yeah that's only if you have a decent shield and she'll still heal.

Don't worry. Malenia is one of the worst designed Fromsoft bosses of all time. I say this as someone who's already beat her 12 times, fought her 300+ times, and played every single From game since DeS. At first, I only had real criticism against a few specific mechanics. Then I realized the entire boss battle is a bunch of unfair mechanics strung together. It's possibly the least fair fight Fromsoft has ever put in a game. That's counting things like Ancient Dragon, Bed of Chaos, etc.

She's fairly easy to stagger so this isn't really true. This issue is if you hit her and she decides to Waterfowl, then you're fucked.

You just have to know the feel of the boss. I couldn't beat her at first no matter what, then I optimized and adapted builds and tactics.
Her Virgil Attack is easily maneuverable even at close range once you find out that you can block attacks with a shield. Nowadays I can toss her around like the rest of Elden Ring bosses.

You don't need mimic. Just get Tiche, she dodges attacks so no heals for Malenia

Waterfowl sucks to dodge and turns the fight into rng for her not doing it often unless you're a god with light equip weight

If it weren't for her anime bullshit move she'd be piss easy, no joke. Her heal? Her rot? Some of her quick moves? All easily dodgebale except that bullshit move. Even her second phase move she starts off with is easy, literally run under neath her as the cutscenes ends and bam she always misses.

The average joe is looking up cheese strats, overlevelling, and spamming every possible summon they can find and I don't blame them even a little bit. Fuck this boss.

Just run the fuck away in the opposite direction. Only the two last ones, the summon and Malenia will reach you. You need to dodge them.

She very learnable aside from her close range Waterfowl Dance, which will just kill you. You can block it with a shield or knock her out of the start-up with a Frost Pot provided you don't have any moral objections

Like a lot of things in this game she's difficult if you play a standard melee build but trivialized baby mode if you just use an overtuned weapon like Rivers of Blood or summons like Tiche.

What level is overleveled?
Malenia is beatable at SL1 with the right build anyways.
Shield with the right arts are very effective.

Many are cheesing her like with first put on the woe talisman, then summon my mimic and then remove it and quickly put something else on. She will always lock on to it 95% of the time. Another thing majority of people can use if they are willing to drop a few points or talisman is bug swarm.

Not only bleed, but also acts like the last boss Elden Star move with the big orb that will constantly stagger her as well and even poise damage. You don't even need high ARC scaling for it, it just annoys her and that is a good thing.
