Artificial Difficulty : The Game
Artificial Difficulty : The Game
I've never played a souls game, but I like sandbox games/RPGs. Would it be worth it to try Elden Ring?
Probably not, it's not a sandbox. More like an open world third person action dungeon crawler.
Yeah i'm at the end of the game now, and i'm extremely annoyed. Its been a minute since a game has made me rage this hard, It reminds me of playing Sonic 06.
>Big empty open world with quest items in places that utterly confuse the player
>bad UI
>Bosses are difficult due to technical issues and not because they're actually hard.
>Game tries to convince you that you're not playing it right, when clearly it's just poorly designed.
>Everything does too much damage
>Side quests are extremely confusing and so poorly explained, that you often fail
>Game is only fun in the beginning
This game is the Sonic 06 of Souls games
I understand transition can be hard on your ability to play games, I think Horizon Forbidden west has the kinda quest design that you need
bump
>Everything does too much damage
Trannies will seethe at hearing this, but it's unironically true. It totally destroys the balance of the game.
Estus management is now no longer a skill. No more deciding whether or not to use or hold off on a heal, the answer now is just always "yes", because everything kills you in 2, maybe 3 hits.
It also makes armor literally worthless. Why is it even in the game? What is even the argument here for including armor so useless? Full on heavy max armor gives you like a 5% damage reduction - why? Just cut the defense/weight mechanic out of the game entirely if you're going to do this, use the development time to focus on other things.
It's very clear they built the entire game very much intending you to cheese it with summons. It wasn't built to be an action game where you personally go fight the bosses one-on-one, the intended way to play is literally to summon mimic and switch off aggro from the boss like a damn MMO. The game suffers greatly for it.
I hate summon spirits, they fucking ruined the whole game because of these gay ass things. If I wanted to have an AI fight for me I'd play some RTS or whatever the fuck.
The difference between fighting SOME bosses without a spirit and with one is a joke. I just did Maliketh on NG+ and for whatever reason had a way harder time with him, and I had beat him without a summon OR using the parry stone thing, but was a total pain in the fucking dick in NG+ and I'm not sure if it's the extra bit of HP or what but my god.. the first phase? not a problem whatever, second phase?
>anime flips across the room
>sweeping lunges
>big slam explosion that SOMETIMES goes into his AOE slashing attack
>does that flipping projectile attack then lunges
>if you try and use a pillar to cover from the projectiles he just glides his sword through the fucking wall and kills you
>every attack hurts like a mother fucker, chunks your total HP, and sets you on fucking fire
>god forbid you survived a swing or roll recovered before realizing the DOT would kill you
>doesn't actually tell you how to use the parry stone, but there's like two attacks that you can actually parry and I died/wasted time trying to figure this out
got tired, just wanted to finish him and go play something with my friends, stepped into his boss room and summoned my mimic, the fight was over in one attempt
thrilling.. overtuned bosses meant to be distracted by your gay ass summoned AI so you can actually get more then one fucking jumping attack in without getting instantly punished for winding a single attack up while the boss isn't even facing you
not the reason it's bad. The difficulty should scale up. Some of these bosses like the twin gargoyles are harder than the MUH LEGEND
Lichdragon etc.
>It also makes armor literally worthless.
This is really my only complaint about the combat. Everything kills me in two or three hits regardless of what I'm wearing, so why bother building around wearing heavy armor? I can wear some goofy cloth set, save those points, and jack up my damage stat. Killing quicker is the most viable form of defense.
Just started, never really played a souls game before. Level 41 now and I have no idea why people say this game is hard. Get good at horseback combat and apart from a few boss fights you're set for 90% of this game it seems like.
>artificial difficulty
ahem...
git gud
Yes because the game is piss easy if you actually use the weapons and bullshit magic it gives you
It was the same with dark souls. At least with the first one, which was rhe only one I played. Armor was worthless.
People say it's hard because they run around naked at level one with the wretch club.
More like they get killed in 2 hits by every boss after Leyndell due to defense doing jack shit if you're not sitting behind a barricade shield.
>> 594643984
weak bait kill yourself
>Getting hit
>When you literally have an on-command invincibility button
>can get a couple of friends to play the game for you
The game is as difficult as you want it to be really. If you explore and summon the game is a cakewalk. The game is a cakewalk regardless, my only real hurdle was Margit because he kind of exists to bait the souls veterans normally we'd just roll through everything but it's not possible in that fight, you have to mix in blocks which we've never really had to do before
Armor was most certainly not worthless in DS1, not even close. Massive stagger resist thanks to poise, and with enough VIT and Havels/Smough's and sufficient DPS you could literally just tank and trade many bosses and not even bother dodging or healing. Did you even play the game?
Reminder there is no such thing as artificial difficulty. You just suck or you don't that's all there is to it
>Can be played in a variety of ways
>You can make the game pretty easy for yourself, if you want to, since the game gives you so many tools for just that
>Or you can make the game a real challenge and "git gud"
People who unironically get buttflustered just because other people use summons, magic etc. baffle me. Like, why? They can still make the game challenging for themselves, so why get so fucking bothered by other people's playstyles. Is being a good souls player the only thing these people have going for themselves?
Lul no, in DaS1 you can stack armor high enough to poise through everything.
Not true at all. Armor in Dark Souls gave you poise. Wearing the starting knight set you could tank two to three hits from most enemies before you were staggered.
>dont level vigor
>die in 1 hit
>max vigor
>die in 3 hits
yeah man great balance there
How do you explain Maliketh, Maria, Horah Loux and Elden Beast all having attacks that 1 hit kill me at 40 vigor?
There is a massive different between 1 and 3, what the fuck is your problem?
found the redditor
They don't want to admit that souls games are actually fairly easy once you understand the shit controls. The real challenges in these games are bosses that are built around making you act retarded in order to avoid / deal damage.
Yes. Did you? If you are going to argue "it's fine if you stack 100 points in vitality" then you can argue the same in elden ring.
Unequip your fucking Scarseal.
The soreseal increases damage 15% how is that going to make any substantial difference?
Lul, you don't even need half of that to just tank through the game. Havels+FAP+30END/VIT is more than enough.
Actual Hideous Teriyaki checklist copypasta
Vitality was more than enough at 50 in Dark Souls, nothing in the game except Ceaseless Discharge could kill you in one hit with that vit and decent armor.
I dunno man, I didn't get one shotted once after I got my vit to 45 except to those bugged rot dogs.
>Yes. Did you? If you are going to argue "it's fine if you stack 100 points in vitality"
No, you can do it with a reasonable normal investment. You might have trouble doing it with a Quality build at the appropriate level due to stat spread, but any normal build where you focus on 3 attributes like STR/VIT/END will certainly be able to do it
>then you can argue the same in elden ring.
By making this statement I take it you have not played elden ring yet, because you most certainly can not. It uses the DS3 armor system.
>It uses the DS3 armor system
You mean the DS3 cosmetic system because everyone knows armor does jack shit
I noticed it immediately because I was playing a wretch, was excited that I finally got armor and it made no difference whatsoever while making me fat roll.
>SL1
Die in 2 hits
>Minmax HP to its maximum
Die in 2 hits
>There is a massive different between 1 and 3
I'm fine with bigger life pools/damage then previous games. But i hate the amount of tracking some bosses have Malenia especially basically forcing you to roll some moves that otherwise should whiff and wouldn't lose too much from doing so. It just a lazy way to make roll skill checks common or force shields i don't know.
>franchise known for being punishing is punishing
>increasing odds of survival by 3 isn't enough
i'm being generous in even addressing this retarded take
anything that kills you that quickly is so clearly telegraphed that it's your fault for not blocking/dodging/running/parrying/jumping out of the way
god FUCKING DAMN this board sucks at vidya
Reminder the artificial difficulty meme came up with the PC release of Dark Souls, PC players complaining about Sen's Fortress. However, Elden Ring is actually artificial difficulty. From has gone above and beyond in this game to ensure you will fight nothing interesting, their number one thought about everything in Elden Ring is not how to make something interesting, but make it hard. And they use every cheap, 4th wall breaking trick in the book to achieve it.
>delayed animation swings to catch reaction rollers, only some bosses have combos that start with delayed animation swings and if you don't spam roll AFTER dodging the first delayed swing you will be comboed
>the most obscene amount of player tracking in any modern ARPG, completely destroying the value of positioning. Compare something from Elden Ring to anything from Demon's or Dark Souls and it's sad to the point of hilariousness how hard enemies track you now
>Button reading AI that freaks the fuck out the moment you press X/Square to heal. Button reading is a part of video games, but the amount of it in Elden Ring far surpasses anything they've ever done before. Boot up something like Bloodborne and be amazed how little the enemies blatantly read your inputs compared to Elden Ring
>Torrent gets vacuumed into enemy attacks if you get hit
>Endless "got ya'!" ganks
Alot of the stuff in ER is present in a lot of games, ER just made the dumb mistake of tuning them far too high to the point where it completely undermines the experience. Fromdrones now defend difficulty for difficulty's sake because Miyazaki's name is on ER. ER suffers from a lot of the flaws people rightly gave Dark Souls 2 shit for only they are far worse in ER. But Dark Souls 2 didn't have Miyazaki's name on it.
I'd even say to stop using the term Fromdrone, it's mostly Miyazakidrones now. If ER only had Tanimura's name on it I guarantee you people would be more critical about it.
I am not kidding, they should have just removed armor as such entirely. Give it zero weight and make it purely cosmetic or give it random effects or magic buffs.
It's totally retarded to have spent how many tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of man-hours having developers sit in a room and crunch numbers and determine armor systems and mechanics only to turn out something so worthless that has zero effect on gameplay. Just cut out "defense" stats entirely - it will be easier to balance the game without that variable and they can have the team do something else with their time, like fixing broken hitboxes. They are holding on to systems that were built for slower-paced action-adventure games like DS1 and trying to juxtapose them into a bizzare Ninja Gaiden Medieval Anime, where they simply don't belong. They need to drop the pretense, quit trying to compromise, come out and just make the anime action game they very clearly want to make, instead of trying to pretend it's still Dark Souls.
I beat godfrey without realizing you could jump to avoid his aoe attacks, I just took them to the face over and over like a dumbass. I even did it without a spirit summon. If someone like me can do it, it can't be that hard
In which Dark Souls game did every boss kill you in 2 hits unless you maxed your health?
>i'm being generous in even addressing this retarded take
anything that kills you that quickly is so clearly telegraphed that it's your fault for not blocking/dodging/running/parrying/jumping out of the way
lol, you have not played the game I see. Let me guess, Twitch zoomer watched a stream and now think you know all about it?
I'm a trans bipoc retard btw
You shitters said this about Dark Souls 1 too. You were wrong then and you are wrong now.
Many people have already beat it at lvl 1 with wooden clubs. That also means having so low VIG that everything one shots you, which means they dodged well.
Soon someone will complete a no hit run too, beating the whole game without taking a single hit.
The difficulty is fair. You just suck OP.
Git gud.
You can make yourself very tanky, things definitely don't deal too much damage. You could also just dodge or block or parry everything. Why is your strategy to facetank the hits?
You just suck. Git gud.
The game was so easy as solo melee that its blatantly clear they designed every single encounter around solo melee play, and intentionally made it easy so new casuals could get into the series.
Using any magic or summons totally trivializes all content and was clearly not even playtested, thats why they have had to rebalance magic and summons already.
Stop whining and learn the game. You are just terrible at it.
kys tendie
These whiners are trannies, Yea Forums is full of them. Good on you for being new and actually learning the gameplay.
This is shit tier trolling, your bait is awful
>waaaaaah why even wear armor
fashion ring
Uh yes? That is great balance.
That difference is enormous on games where decent play can make you avoid all damage.
Dying in 3 hits made the endgame ridiculously easy. The game literally has a reverse difficulty curve, the beginning is by far the hardest part.
Since you want a game that does not punished you for mistakes, I recommend that new game Horizon Zero Interest, or whatever. These Souls games are known for being punishing and its what us fans enjoy. Looks like mommy picked you the wrong game from the shelf eh?
In every single fucking one of them. You didn't play them.
Being objectively right is not trolling. You are trolling. The game has amazing combat just like the previous FromSoft games
You people have clearly not equipped a single set of armor in the game.
Armor has NEVER had this much damage reduction before in a souls game.
You can easily get 40% all res.
idiot, wearing havels practically made you invulnerable. first time I went into the artorias fight while wearing it I actually felt bad about beating him like that cause it made a great boss into a total pushover
fashion as great but it's retarded to design imaginary mechanics around it
should have just kept armor as pure cosmetics and made it weightless
but its not difficult
Seethe Harder I damn near beat the whole game in under 60 hours, and half of that i'm pretty sure was just AFK while washing the dishes / working out. This game is fundamentally bad, it has almost Zero replayability. In a few months it'll be the Halo infinite of Souls games where everyone just goes back to previous installations. You won't see anybody running around NG+10 on fucking Elden Ring, because the game is too long and boring and the cheese bosses just make it insufferable. ironically had they just made it a less shit game it'd encourage the players to yah know, keep playing. Go ahead and pretend i'm wrong, this game is a 1 hit wonder. This game is a Lil Nas X song. It was fun at first, then shit just gets gay as hell. Like it or not, the game just isn't that fun. Plain and simple, i'm not even going to sugar coat it. It is the Fallout 4 of souls games. Sure you will love it at first, but you will never play it again, because it just doesn't hold up compared to previous entries.
Also before you say get gud, i'm running around with a great sword 1 shotting everything, I'm better than you at the game. You use magic n shields n shit, pussy. I didn't even know what summons were until level 30. I didn't even know what runes were until level 70, I just started using the flasks at level 90. I breezed through this shitty game, I didn't use a single ash of war, not even once.I completely cheesed, and it was just awful.
obvious bait is still terrible, 2/10 see me after class
Armor is very effective in Elden Ring. More than in any other souls game in terms of damage resist. You have not tried a single heavy armor set. Your whining is invalid.
Why yes I just came back from the final boss fight, how could you tell?
>47% holy resist before Lord's Divine
>equip both scarseals and soreseals
>get btfo
>whine about armor being useless
Its a million times better than DS3 or 2, and definitely also better than Sekiro (which has zero replay value).
People will be playing Elden Ring still a decade later, just like DeS and DS1.
Did you guys also notice that they seemingly made the last minute decision to tie equipload back from STR to END and made visceral attacks, parrying, and armor in general much weaker? Genuinely what the fuck is miyazakis problem
If you are going to troll, at least try being creative. Just calling objective facts bait is pathetic, every one who has played this game knows the things I said are fact.
It is especially in the second half, the game is basically shouting at you to overlevel and go make broken builds just for the shit bosses at the end. Then From will get mad at players using those builds or methods to curb stomp them and "fix" them so you have to play as Yuishithead wants you to.
>Armor is very effective in Elden Ring
Summons ruined the whole game mane. I get no feeling of accomplishment whatso ever because of them. They completely undermine not only the spirit of souls game but the primary objective of achieving perfect play. None of these bosses allow you to punish them, none of them reinforce you to become a better player, they just spam AOE non stop and bait you into a wombo combo, to add insult to injury the late game bosses not only disqualify you from attempting perfect play, but they make it so you basically can't even fight them 1v1, it's damn near impossible. This game is utterly insufferable, and every boss I've killed only made me more angry, I've never played a game in my whole life where beating the boss actually makes me more mad than I was before. I feel cheated out of my win no different than how a chess player feels when an opponent forfiets by moving your pieces for you. I don't want an AI to help me, it completely takes all satisfaction away from the game and basically turns it into RNG because it's basically a dice roll on if my summon will perform well or not. It's not even skill based, Fuck this game
>Just calling objective facts bait is pathetic
good thing that never happened then
The only reason why the game takes most people a long time to complete isnt even cause "the game is big", its cause its artifically bloated up with tons of optional copy paste bullshit that is practically mandatory for most people. getting upgrade materials for non special weapons is a massive pain in the ass, and so is leveling up cause with both you just clear out shitty copy paste dungeons and hope you get what you need, and to force people into doing all this bullshit they dialed up boss health and damage to a ridiculous extent that if you are of average skill your hand will be forced. Obviously there are gonna be morons trying to flex their superior reaction time and pattern recognition skills by pretending that they themselves thought it was easy or fair on their traditional melee builds, and hence their opinions can just be discarded as they are ultimately coming from a position of insecurity.
