Was Dark Souls 1 ever that good?

Its the only good game in the Dark Souls series

/thread

I'm right now at this boss and I'm so fucking mad
literally NO fucking reason to have this fight in a tight alley with TWO FUCKING DOGS
I'm gonna have to cheese it but this should NOT have been the case

my only from game prior to DS1 was bloodborne and I can already see clear improvements in enemy design and boss design
still DS1 is kino in its own right but fuck some of its enemy placements

No.
Replaying the original (not the remaster or Prepare to Die Edition) after playing its sequels, it’s painfully obvious just how underdeveloped and low budget the game was.
Assets get recycled all over the game to save time and money, especially in second half. The same wall textures that appear in Dark 1 are even reused in Elden Ring.
Inventory pictures and equipment menus use incredibly low resolution blurry concept drawings.
Solaire’s iconic armor is literally a low quality .jpg of the Argentinian flag.
Miyazaki is a hack who stole half the game’s concepts and images from Berserk (and would continue to do so his entire career).
Gameplay has none of the refinement of the sequels. Rolling in 4 directions only feels terrible. Bosses are half the time just “run behind its fat ass and hit it until it does its AOE, repeat ad nauseum.” This wasn’t fixed until the DLC.

Yes, it's a masterpiece

I'm playing through 1.0 on Xbox 360 and I'm stuck at gargoyles. I forgot how horrendous the runback is.

No, it has several weak bits in it which puts it below Dark Souls 3 thought it's still better than Dark Souls 2

Playing on the switch here after beating elden ring. My third attempt over 6 or 7 years ago. Always got filtered somewhere before getting to sens fortress. Just got there today. No, this game is incredible

just run up the stairs and kill the dogs first retard
it was made for ps3 and it was their forst ever game to get a port to pc what did you expect?

Kek. I was saying the same thing on here a couple days ago and he does suck but hes optional and a lot more manageable if you go back with a +5 weapon

it's when most pctrannies learned about miyazaki but it wasn't as cool as demon's souls

>hes optional
Not if you don't have the master key he isn't.

solaire is a spic?

He is actually
>darkroot garden
>valley of the drakes left path past dragon on cliff
>blighttown
Boom

the only enemy you even have to fight is the one guy on the stairs who you can just parry & one shot. you can sprint past everything else

this sucks if you wand decent regular weapons tho

pretty much the only reason to actually do capra is if you want pyromancy. the depths is okay for farming humanity as well but there's not much down there you really even need

arg is white
in fact you'd be VERY surprised to see how white it is, I wasn't expecting that
50% of people are third/second gen italians, most others are polish etc
t. eurobro who worked in arg for a year

Lmao is that a DSP clip? I recognise that camera quality

Sad but true.

Of course it was OP, but people aren't honest that they don't judge the Souls games on a blind first playthrough basis because they never play these games blind at all, they just watch their favorite streamer use some OP weapon and copy them after watching all the boss fights.

>boss doesn't take 75% of your health in a single hit
Wew, I forgot that from games used to be balanced.

Beat this asshole yesterday on just my second try.
If it weren't for the dogs he'd be just as easy as any mini-boss. But whats most likely to kill you is getting stuck on the hounds while you try to run up the stairs.

get a +5 weapon and kill the dogs first. also use a shield for this fight. after that its not that bad

>fap ring

One of two rings everyone uses, yes.

how did sif get so big? why did he only get big after artorias died?

The Large Ember also requires fighting him.

I have +3 spiked cub that one shots dogs
will do the stair trick but I really disliked how the fight was staged, but oh well its a decade old game

more souls = larger
She ate all the warriors that went to the grave looking for the ring

>if you go back with a +5 weapon
jesus christ user. Why do you people not upgrade to the maximim level you can as soon as you are able to? you should have +5 normal by the time you do gargoyles.
Get poise so the dogs dont stagger you as much.
Get shield with high stability and you can block his leap attack, so a +5 kite shield of some sort.
then the boss becomes fair. If you dont have either of those you need to cheese or use the stairs and hope a dog doesnt nip your leg.

It's the Dark Souls of Fromsoft Action RPGs

Was that one dish your mom made that was your favourite when you were a child really that good?

First time players won't be getting the max upgrade level immediately.

the fact that he's still making people seethepost 10 years later makes it all worthwhile.
second worst fight in the game

the stair is there for a reason, user, shields are also very strong vs the dogs
don't fall for the "you most not use a shield or magic to beat the game", those fags are the worse
you should have fun and feel you're improving with every death

you could also get magic shield which is pretty low int and will last long enough for you to not get crumpled upon entering the room

You were supposed to think about how the dogs approach you on the opening, it's relatively easy to dodge the first Capra attack and focus one of them if you don't rush in.

Yes

>pick bandit
>immedietly go for the zweihander after the asylum
>str to 24
>dex to 11
>vitality to 40
>pump everything else into nothing but endurance
>get havel's ring, grasscrest shield, ring of favour and protection and mask of the father
>enchant the zweihander to chaos +5
>eventually use havel's armor minus the helm for the poise
>beat the game and its dlc without using any magic or bow at any point

I had no difficulty with any of the bosses except maybe kalameet and manus. Artorius was a joke, and so was the capra demon. It was also my first playthrough.

>armor protects you
>magic is strong
>melee is strong
>faith is strong
>you don't have to dump 50 points into health just to survive
>fights are quick and to the point
>grinding for upgrade materials was reasonable
It really was the perfect game, and they could never get it right since then.

fpbp

Its aged like crap

there is no reason not to. I did my first time.
Its just plain stupid not to, sorry. You maybe have an a bit of an excuse going to only +3 and moving on because +3 was the cap to start in dark souls 3.
>blacksmith will upgrade my weapon
>option A: use his abilities
>option B: move on to the next area without taking advantage of a key gameplay feature introduced to me
>hmmm ill go with B
>noooo why is this game so hard!?
i will never understand this.

>using the Fap ring early game

no it really is not
idk if its the remastered but if you dont start running there is a 100% chance you wont be able to block 3 attacks from 3 foes and still have stamina and room ro roll/block

its really, really awful design

I really dont think thats the case
in undead burg and parish I saw some legit stuff like that like luring the boar to fires or kicking stuff off the cliffs but this doesnt feel like it

>all that shit
>first time
sure bro

its also kinda cheap too, btw I had a +4 barbed club instead of +3, just checked

fpbp

>i immediately went for one of the most OP weapons in the game that is not a random drop and the game was easy

Its good but no its not THAT good

>>faith is strong
No, WOTG is strong, it's the worst school of spells otherwise. Following games just miracles even worse, like everything else.

I said dodge, not block. And it's a short window, yes.

This
I played DS2 and DS3 but none of them really had that open world feeling. I hated how you could, no you HAD to fast travel between some bonfires, whereas in DS1 everything was interconnected and instant travel didnt become a thing until like halfway into the game, and even then, only certain bonfires were available.
It was really satisfying to open up all the shortcuts around firelink shrine and the world
The only thing i didnt like is how some bonfires were fucking miles away from some of the bosses and you had to fight through dozens of enemies, while other bonfires were much closer.

That doesn't count.

It was my first actual playthrough of the game, though i did read up on a guide in advance.

>noob crest shield, broken rings, skillless weapon, anything Havel
You didn't beat the game.

its a poise/stability check. if you neglect either of those stats your fucked.

Its literally a gear check boss that some players just i-frame and abuse terrain to get through. Yes it is fucking ridiculous to fight without those things as a first time player.

>>It was my first actual playthrough of the game, though i did read up on a guide in advance.
Poor bastard.

It is the best souls game.

I just beat elden ring and loaded up the dark souls save i started a few days before elden ring came out. i walked into capra demons room and my brain stopped working. capra demon just...attacks you. simple swings. no delays. no infinite combos. no leaping across the room. it was so simple. i legit couldnt process it and got raped by the dogs. anyway i got back up and effortlessly killed him. feels really weird playing without a jump button now

Tell me about Dark Souls mods anons. I played Daughters of Ash and it was ok. What are the best ones

> I really dont think thats the case
you never notice how long capra is staggered if he falls out of the balcony if he's chasing you? free hits/time to kill the dogs, it's there to give you a breather

this desu

Yes

Just finished Anor Londo, don't know how to explain but I liked it more than any dungeons in ER.

Lighting Bolt did great damage, didn't it?

It sure is better than Elden shit.

Only ones I used were the item/enemy randomizers (full random) and the halo shitpost

it was/ it was a straight downgrade from demon's souls in every single way, but it was still good.
