Not with MSAA on unless you actually play at potato. Even when the 970 released MSAA was a bad idea to use on it.

I have a 1660Ti in a gaming laptop and it is fine for almost everything, playing on 27in screen.

I was more happy with my 770 than I am with my 1080. There's nothing wrong with the 1080 but the 770 was a workhorse. It could run TW3 on ultra with 50-60 fps. It could handle VR games. All my video cards before it died a series of burnouts and artifacting, starting with Age of Conan burning out my 8800 back in the day, but the 770 lasted me until it couldn't keep up anymore.

I have a 2060, got it right before the GPU prices got fucked. I was kicking myself a bit for not going higher but upon actually using my PC I find what I do 90% of the time is browse the internet and the heavy majority of games I play could run great on a laptop. The only thing I've played that it struggles a bit with is Doom Eternal and Batman Arkham Knight, both of which I don't play often and "struggle" means "I can't both max out the settings and have 144 hz".

R9 380. Can't really play new AAA games anymore. The last ones it could handle were RE2make and Hitman 2 on medium settings at ~40 fps.
Mind boggling that I could now sell this card used for the same price I paid for it new in 2016.

my main issue is that there just aren't any games that justify upgrading. like you watch benchmark videos for the 3080 and it's all these obvious fake simulation background games like apex legends, assassins creed, vallorant etc

my 970 still handles every game in existence that i want to play well so why would i upgrade?

Kinda in shit spot, my fps tanks in open areas when I play Elden Ring, at least I get 60 fps in caves and legacy dungeons on medium settings
And there's not enough of good modern games that excite me to justify purchasing something better

Yeah, the new PC games are pretty fucking 0/5 but I test them sometimed for the lulz and they work just fine and I have all Nintendos. My PC is mostly for Noita, CK2 and Cities: Skylines. I even play Civ 6 more on Switch because it's comfier. Nigger.

GPUs are whatever, most mid-ranges will give you way more than you need for most shit. the real chugger is the cpu, still on a i5-6400 and I'm starting to feel it. my mobo is not supported for newer ones despite being the same socket thanks to intel jewery so I'm just waiting for a game that makes me want to upgrade.

There's unironically going to be nothing wrong with renting hardware in the future when infrastructure is better and latency is lower. Right now cloud computing is far cheaper in both short and long term for a company's IT infrastructure. Soon gamerchads will be able to benefit from the economics of scale too.
