"She" is right. It cant be helped.

How could you say this. I can't believe you would type such a thing.

>equivalent but natural and eloquent
I didn't know outdated memes counted as high literature.

Nice. Another bait thread. Still better than a 23rd elden ring thread.

Fuck off

yakuza7 did two translations of the entire script, literal for its japanese audio and literary for the dub to flow better.
Not sure if it was worth it money-wise, but as a player I approve this.

sorry bro

Stfu smooth brain. Anyone who speaks more than one language knows OP is correct. Words are in different orders, with different intonations, and have an entire culture that needs to be communicated along with them. Try translating Russian word for word, it's fucking illegible. They don't use articles and everything is contextual.

>I put a lot of effort into it.

Attached: 4389f3_9439296.png (1920x1080, 1.8M)

Being more difficult to produce does not make the product more valuable or desirable. If anything that literal translations are both easier AND more desired indicates it should be the norm.

Anybody got Nabokov's forward to A Hero of Our Time? Just throw that in these idiots faces and move on.

There's not a fucking chance that this is real

I'd rather literal translations because I'd rather something be incomprehensibly direct than awful and "localized". I don't like localizations. I hate when people take liberties with translations because the translation "doesn't make sense". I don't care. I want a translation, not your opinion.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't care.

I'm sure the original text of this was just the Japanese equivalent of all those memes.

>jap text: you cannot be serious
>"localized" translation: you be cappin bruh
>I PUT A LOT OF HARD WORK AND EFFORT INTO CREATING THIS OK??

I would prefer if they were more literal in their translations rather than writing fanfiction and passing it off as "localisation", which is what they do at present.
There's too many ideologically driven "translators" who see the job as a means to further their beliefs by changing or outright removing content.

I don’t think anyone is actually on the same page in this conversation.

Based retards.

Dragon Quest.
Do you know what goes into Dragon Quest "translations"?
Complete and total rewrites of characters, locations, and themes to satisfy some completely made up joke for the town or dungeon you're in that didn't exist in it's original language.
This is the kind of shit that needs to stop.

this is the same creature that gets mad when normal people demand "literal" women

Either do the job right or don't do it at all.

Sometimes I wonder user. How do these people always end up learning Japanese? Why do they in the first place?

Attached: 1502856723092754.jpg (1209x441, 139.01K)

Top is better, and I say that unironically

Everyone knows the OP tweet is a dogwhistle for inserting cringe politics into dialogue that a good translation would not have.

>JELLY
>DONUT

Agreed, it's unfair when people criticize my writing just because it's bad
I'm a real person and I worked really hard to write it, people have NO RIGHT to criticize me

if it's easier to do a literal translation, then why do they insist on localization? The japanese upper management need to take the manner into their own hands and create the translations internally.

I never understood this. Why was that an issue? Who the fuck would even know what an an-donut is?

Of course not. One side is arguing against the strawman of "they used the word literal therefore they must mean they want a stiff as fuck translation like translating yoroshiku as "please take care of me"" and the other side is arguing against the strawman of "they used the word localize therefore they must mean they want to do shit like "translating" onigiri into jelly donut"

Why do these idiot twittertard trannyslators think people want a word for word google translate when they're told time and time again that what people actually want is for them to stop shoehorning cringy outdated twitter memes and their faggy ideology into everything they touch?
Case in point, this faggot . You know damn good and well what everyone is complaining about, but you don't actually have an argument against it, so you change the subject and pretend they said something completely different.

I don't know that because I don't keep up with literal nobodies on twitter.

vomit

He's wrong and Working Designs has been a detriment for all translations ever since they existed.

>I'd have to try a lot harder to actually do my job instead of replacing an entire conversation with "..." as a joke

Oh no, the horror

soul
soulless

>"I hate that people demand 'literal' translations"
>"I'd have to try a lot less hard if I wrote more literally"
>complaining that what people want would make your job significantly easier

It's just an easy way to deflect the argument. Same as the people saying stuff like
>Oh it's just some covered up boobs. It's not a big deal and hardly is worth whining about.
If it's such a small trivial thing then why fucking do it? They never EVER answer that.

retards like this should be drowned in acid

Why are people so autistic about translations? Like even for fan translated hentai manga there are always people crying if there's a minor mistake or spelling error.

that's the joke
they don't know japanese

It was a riceball...

>why do people want things they're spending their time on to be good?
I wonder

Attached: ajimu throne.png (896x1300, 344.04K)

You don't have to know Japanese to google translate a string of text and then replace it with the most appropriate ten year old twitter/tumblr meme or pop culture reference.

What do you mean?

I cannot nut if their using the wrong they’re in there writing.

>trannies seething people don't like their rewrites
Get them out of the fucking job already

It's only memorable because people have juxtaposed it with the actual translation so much.

>Putting a completely different text is the same as taking a phrase and translating into different language
Of course a monolingual retard wouldn't know the difference.
That's not even in the game, you dumb fucking retard. It's just a text to showcase how the texts look like.

Attached: 1649190796607.jpg (686x582, 88.39K)

Google Translate is absolute trash.
Why are they even working in those jobs? Video Game translations don't pay well at all. The pay is absolute shit and is comparable to an English Teacher in Japan.

>Reddit tier bugbrain "quirky" line
vs
>Actually wholesome declaraction of love

Yeah American translators can go eat shit. OP's pic is correct in principle, but you know very well that this is not what these people actually do. They don't "try to actually understand the original line to offer a translation that may not be literal but properly captures its meaning", they instead just inject whatever they want the line to be or turn it into some fucking cringe meme-of-the-day reference.

bottom is better because he married camilla instead of wasting his seed with assumingly hana or felicia

people don't like it when they're lied to. it's a betrayal of implicit trust.

test

>nihongo jozu

the problem isn't a minor change but sjw's working as translator pushing woke bullshit into translations that weren't in the original.
The other day I was watching a anime and they used Xir as pronoun in the dub while the sub was normal and had he.
That shit goes too far and woke retards need to be exterminated

>people defending people making shit up

but the bottom is still in English

The ultimate problems are
(1) Japanese at large fucking suck at English and those that are decent come at quite a cost,
(2) you generally want to use native speakers of your destination language for translation,
(3) native English speakers are either fucking insane these days (see OP pic) or you couldn't afford them, because they are translating shit that pays way better.

Your best shot for a good translation these days are some passionate fans.

You deserve that shit for watching dubs.

No one even asks for "literal" translations. They ask for accurate translations.

why is the japanese version in english?

Then write fucking literal. I don't give a shit if it's a fragmented sentence. All I care about is getting raw translations and letting me come to my own conclusions. Why do trannies feel the need to interject their own shit and spoon-feed a narrative? They can't convince me they are the opposite gender, so why try try to persuade me storywise with a foreign language?

Attached: 1437114715183.gif (500x452, 986.84K)

The translators who do these intentional hack jobs don't actually speak japanese well enough to comprehend the works they're translating

YWNBJ

if its easier to do a literal one then what's his excuse? imagine an IT guy being like "dude why dont you like my 300 line piece of coding? so what if i can just pull up 3 functions to do the same thing? don't you see how much harder this is?"

Can we nuke the US and kill its diaspora? I can't take these people anymore.

I don’t believe you.

>it takes SO much effort
you're getting paid to do that though

>It takes so much more effort
then find a different job you lazy kike. Im here to play the game not the shitty fanfiction of how you think character should act

Machine translation has come quite a long way.
They get the script in text after all, so I wouldn't be surprised, if they used that for the basic translation and then rewrote it until it fits their liking.

>not in the game
OH NO NO NO NO

Why would I want to be Japanese? I'm a eurochad and think Americans are a blight on this planet.

>I lost my english accent after 5 years in Japan

Americans always trying to force their imperialism on other countries. Can't wait until China puts them in their place soon.

Oh uh user. That guy was Canadian according to an user here who found his profile before he nuked it.

Yes-yes, but why is he tweeting instead of working on my literal translation?

>this thread again

name? source? link? gameplay? unedited screenshot?

As if that made any difference.

His translation of Eugene Onegin is dosghit because of that translation philosophy. Literalism has its place but when autism trumps it, things go to shit.

NISA and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race

There is a huge difference between adapting something to make sense in english and completely changing the meaning/context to fit your tastes

>fan tl

>then
esl retard

>they've all confirmed this too
日本語上手ですね!

She's right. However 90% of the people who say as such are not in any way qualified to be doing what they suggest, because their self-centered egoism gets in the way and they lose sight of what they're supposed to be doing.

I'd prefer interpretations if I could trust the translators but instead we get localizers that want to insert trannies and negroes into everything.

Thinking about it it's gotta be fucking weird for some random guy to go up to someone and say "Hey do I have an accent with speaking Japanese?!".

>Nooooooo you have to translate EXACTLY what it says instead of interpreting it for the intended audience which is what all translations of even classic literature have done for all recorded history
>Nooooooo you have to let me insert tranny propaganda into Japanese video games for teenage boys
The two sides of this dumbass fucking argument, both degenerate. Translation is degenerate, people who read translations are degenerate. Learn Japanese.

>>not in the game
Yes, not even the same dialogue.
If you're so sure this is present in the game, why don't you link me an unedited playthrough of the English translation that shows all the dialogues in the pic?

Literal translation
>"Thanks for the food"
Elegant and eloquent sentence
>"Rub a dub-dub, thanks for the grub."

You know how to solve this problem.
You're just too weak to do it.

you'd just claim it was shopped faggot

Imagine how fast game developers would just bin this cunts letter after reading the first sentence what a fucking putz

Reminder that you need 5 years of legitimate studying to be able to play anything easily. 1 with a dictionary and 2-4 with you needing it less and less. By 2027 all you fags better know it.

the anime adaptation of this was the worst example i can think of with liberties to translating. the first episode turns the girls into valley girl bimbo bitches who mock the original work for having fan service calling its readers weirdo horndogs and ruining machios character completely. the only thing i can think of thats remotely close to liberties taken was fire emblem fates literally not translating support conversations or rewriting scenes they didnt want to translate for. I dont understand how someone could read the manga and find these types of blatant rewrites in the anime serviceable.

I'm not quite sure he even has a firm grasp on English, since he says "multiple fellow natives".
That would mean he talks about native English speakers, not native Japanese speakers.

So how does one even get a job localizing games? I'd imagine they'd want you to have some background right? Would having translated hentai in dlsite count or would it be dismissed due to lewd.
I think he considers himself a native Japanese due to living there.

There's only one side to this. Every one with a brain understands that if you translate word by word it'll be shit, and if there's a pun or something, you may have to find a workaround to incorporate it in your translation. But when the original line is:
>Oh, that's harsh. I hope things get better.
And the translation is
>WUBALUBBA DUB DUB!!! BAZINGA!!!!!!!
Then there's no defending it. And before you tell me I'm strawmaning, there's multiple screenshots in this very thread showing this kind of shit.

translating is literally the easiest fucking job in the world and these retarded NPCs are still complaining.
>UHHH LITERAL TRANSLATION BAD!!1
WHY it's literally WHAT WE WANT. Just do a literal translation, word for word. Why is this world so stupid?
