Crystal Dynamics announces new Tomb Raider game being developed in Unreal Engine 5

>Crystal Dynamics has announced a new Tomb Raider game, and revealed that it will be built using Unreal Engine 5.

>Announced during the State of Unreal 2022, Crystal Dynamics promises a "high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience", and becomes the latest major developer to move their next project to Unreal Engine 5. Other developers include The Coalition and CD Projekt Red, which has already announced that the next Witcher game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.

>This is the first new Tomb Raider game since Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released in 2018. Crystal Dynamics is best known in recent years for rebooting the Tomb Raider series, showing us a fresh look at Lara Croft's origins in a grittier setting. In recent years, it has developed Marvel's Avengers and has been assisting Microsoft's Initiative studio on a reboot of Perfect Dark.

Fresh ryona....hmmmm

Imagine the extremely high poly, lucky shotas that will have their way with Lara...

Aren't they doing most of the work for Perfect Dark? How many people work at Crystal Dynamics?

No one gave a shit about the last two games, why would they care about a new one?

We are going to need a 4k version of this pic.

Who cares about lara croft with small tits?

Rise sold 12 million and Shadow sold 9, so there's people who care.

>Dropping Avengers
Fuck, what about my updates >(

>high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience
Oh boy I can't wait for more interactive cutscenes disguised as "platforming"

Is it weird or wrong or autistic to want them to either make a new Gex game or let someone else make one?
I feel like it's tail time.

>Unreal engine
gonna be a goddamn EGS exclusive
well I guess I`m pirating

didn't shadow drop in price after the first week of release

>"high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience"
I've learned to just tune out anything that uses "cinematic" as a sales pitch

Don't bother, TR for some reason has an ultra autistic cult that insists TR has never sold for the past 15 years and worships the original games as the best ever made.
No idea why anyone would get this obsessed over a franchise who's sole legacy is a digital porn actress.

I enjoyed the Nu Lara Trilogy

Fight me

If it takes place in Africa I swear...

I hope they take their time to model the pits and feet.

>Squeenix complains that the series always undersells
>makes another one
>CD Projekt just goes back to The Witcher and abandons their own engine too
Eh

not SERIOUS enough.

Where did you get those numbers, just type in google and it will show you that Rise sold about 7 million units and Shadow sold over 4 million, well unless you take into account how epic recently gave away the trilogy for free

Because Square is fucking insane when it comes to sales.
The 2013 TR sold 15 million copies, literally Call of Duty numbers, and it still didn't satisfy them.

I watched a webm on /gif/ of NuLara "realistically" fucking a horse, and it was kind of disappointing. She was really not into it, and when the horse started "actually" fucking her she wanted it off her right away. I need proper horsefucker kino.

You can play with original Lara in Shadow

No idea why ppl complain

Kek, I remember when Chrono Trigger sold a million on DS and SE wasn't satisfied, same for Type 0 HD

>AOD Lara
>Original Lara

>high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience
Just revert to the TR1-3 experience but with modern graphics please.
I want large levels (but NOT an "open world") in which I can get lost and stuck as I find my through them while solving obscure puzzles.
No objective markers, no guidance, no shitty melodramatic retread origin story.

I don't even dislike linear story-heavy cinematic games. I'm probably Yea Forums's biggest fan of Last of Us 2.
But Crystal have repeatedly proven that they aren't good at making them, so PLEASE stop trying and bring back the sense of adventure and exploration instead.

The original TR is one of the best games ever made, you fucking zoomer retard

The crystal dynamics games were boring. Wheres the meat angels?

Platforming action games will never be good.

I got the first reboot for free with my graphics card back in 2014. it wasn't great and left me with no desire to bother with any of the sequels. I guess it wasn't bad, but I didn't find it all that engaging

it's one of the genres that's good. most genres are not good

I don't remember the game looking this shit when I played it. When did it come out again?

Who cares? Those guys are fucking morons and they broke the games trying to implement always online connectivity with epics servers.

Post the webm.

>>Squeenix complains that the series always undersells
SE are eternal simps for the west. I'm not saying they should go back to the 90s Lara but they should try to make Lara interesting and give her a real personality and no be afraid to make her sexy. personally i developed this strict rule of ignoring everything that follows the Mass Effect Andromeda character archetype.

Or they could just give her fat tits.

>platforming
It's basically impossible to fail at any of the platforming in these games. You play through these games once and then never touch it again.

>abandons their own engine too
Cause of 2077 they have lost a bunch of devs and the new one's are having a pain in the arse getting in the cog's of it.
Rather have them all transision over to a new and argueably BETTER engien then their shit

They’ll give Tomb Raider infinite chances but will leave Deus Ex to rot

You are retarded nigger retard

Unreal fucking blows.

at this point it happens so often that it has to be the same person, either someone who is incompetent or is doing some tax sheninigans.
I would give up a nut to have someone like Nagooanimation animate cutscenes in a WEG game, I still think that there are great looking DAZ games but animations are always stiff.

>The original TR is one of the best games ever made
It's really not.

>UE5
Another developer abandoning their own proprietary game engine in favor of forwarding the homogenization of game feel and visuals.

Attached: happyy.jpg (500x500, 39.62K)

so the whole nu-Lara is still on the menu? It's not a new series?

is funny to see a developer butcher their own IP or game and then blame the crowd, is like if on wedding day I ran (late) a monster truck through the crowd into the church and then told the (ex) wife "guess you did not want to marry me after all".

(ok is definetly exaggerated here)

Will they make it without the fake platforming? Every time I look one of these games up they're full of shitty hold left or up and occasionally press the jump button for 1 minute to pretend there was some obstacle stopping your progress. And always with the "helpful" yellow spraypaint or flags or something so you dont get lost even though there's only one path forward on this canned animation that you barely interact with.

Ehh, it's very expensive to develop and maintain a 3D engine. They probably saw UE5's features and thought it would be much easier and less expensive to use UE5 than to try and put those features into their own in-house engine.

Who's the type of person that plays these games?

Me.

zoom zoom

This. The success of Elden Ring proves that you don't have to follow the modern game design philosophy to find success.

I never played the originals but the new TRs looked like extremely mediocre trend-filled AAA games with nothing original to show. I never saw anyone talking about the sequels after release and figured they flopped hard. But I guess normies eat up more than you think.

Tell me about
You have time to type.
I have time to listen

We'll see. Maybe UE5 is the UE iteration that can handle large scale environments without shitting the bed (probably not though).

Hopefully it's set on a forgotten monster island and Lara gets swallowed whole a bunch of times.

Nu Lara games are pretty much Uncharted clones except a little less linear and there are more collectibles

I think they're more enjoyable games than Uncharted and that's actually saying something

If developers don't make use of their own assets, or tweak the engine to make their own aesthetic that's their problem, not EPIC, you can make Gears of War or you can make Borderlands or you can make a 2D game or a half2D game like "last night".

from what, I think Josh Sawyer said, who was a developer on Fallout New Vegas, Unreal implemented a feature that was already present in Gambryo, that allows for big maps by diving rendering in instances, which should be pretty damn normal, Horizon zero dawn also does it.

Well I suggest you look it up I am sure there is a better explanation than what I wrote. Bottom point is that open world games are more viable now.

>cinematic
nulara again
doa

>implying anyone actually plays them
The sole reason they exist is to be used in all the benchmark videos on Jewtube.

I've only played the first game and Rise but I can't remember which is which since they're so fucking similar.
Ah well, I guess it's finally time to do Shadow. Feels strange going back to triple A shit after playing all these old weird niche games.

>cinematic action adventure

another one for the trash heap
