I'm playing RE Village and I'm starting to question the way Hardcore difficulty is balanced, at the very beginning the Lycans are too tanky and will suck up all your ammo, which isn't helpful when your goal is to hold the fort. Tried knifing but I just get grabbed instead.

Finally playing RE3 Remake. To be fair, it's way better than the average poster in an RE thread says and I'm thoroughly enjoying it, but it has some noticeable problems.
And Jesus, the mods are something else. I'm in awe.

Rewatching Noroi and the deteriorated film festival version of The Blair Witch Project really makes me want an adventure horror game in a similar style. Linear or open hubs would work, talking to people, investigating, and ultimately trying to either combat some curse/entity through ritual, or simply survive through the night as things get progressively worse and worse.

A nice rec is Dementium, a Silent Hill-ish DS horror game with more guns and a cool atmosphere. Has a sequel too.

Yeah, had the same on 3. I just dodged back and aimed for (fore)headshots.
Feels like horror games never sell that well. The ones that do sell a lot on hype, but sometimes those people don't even play them (see REmake's completion steam achievement).
In that case, no wonder most studios can only survive as AA at max.

I tried Siren's demo but I genuinely didn't like it at all. The fact you need to do arbitrary things to get people to live in the retail game really puts me off further. Been slowly going through FF1 and it's been a blast.
Dementium was cool but it didn't really feel scary, the enemies weren't particularly threatening, and the puzzles didn't even feel like puzzles. Still a fun game despite that.
