i'm more than willing to beta test for you :)

That''s 1024 $, I'm not going to sell for less.

It's the size of the switch with grips

>bezels a shit
You're right but how is the oled any more of a handheld? Neither can fit in your pocket.

>pro is a hardware expansion
That'd be awesome.

top: good price for power
bottom: overpriced piece of shit with paid emulation

This. Like exactly the size with hori pads. I won't deny the superiority of the oled's screen and battery, but the Deck fills the niche for pc games and AAA that the Switch physically cannot handle or run well.

Is there a pocketable handheld that can run PC shit? At least DOS or something.

>Deck's screen colors look as good as the oled's here
Bros.... I thought oled was supposed to save the Switch....

Q3+ bros...

I wonder how necessary the touchpads are really

Attached: 1622734207896.jpg (640x447, 57.27K)

depends on the games you intend to play,if you're going for alot of "PC" oriented games, they can be quite useful with gyro,if you intend to play more "console" oriented games, they won't be nearly as useful.

youtu.be/bkUT73JtwhY
seems great for shooters

Ah, so he use the thumbstick for no-combat camera movement and switches to the pad for more precise shooting. Does look very good that way and pretty seamless to get used to doing that.

though id reccomend using the touchpad with the gyro to make it even better for those more precise "mouse-like" movements.

>Q2 512 Steamdeck
>want to use it as an emulation machine
>eta prime releases an emu guide for deck
>ps2 runs like shit
>audio issues in emulation on loonix
Im pretty close to cancelling since rdna 2 handhelds are coming in a couple months.
Steam deck was allowed to be hidden in mystery and then when it was released it still had no honest videos. Im guessing ndas or whatever lifted so now we know the steam deck is garbage that could never survive past 2022

Attached: 1CF239C6-BE9B-45BD-BD93-E2B3A4E078AA.jpg (510x653, 21.98K)

>ps2 runs like shit
Proof? Every PS2 video I've seen looks good. I expected it to be closer to desktop 1050 performance but I feel like it's worth it for the $400 version with an SSD upgrade, as long as you're getting it later with bug/hardware fixes. If you bought a more expensive model then there's no point imo, the price is the whole point.

Joycons in one pocket, screen in another.

Fits fine for me.

The screen portion is literally a 6" tablet lol. It still isn't a valid handheld. I could fit a Steam Deck in a big pocket and leave it hanging out a little and call it a day, still doesn't make it "pocketable."

youtu.be/pnCObNCg0Ic?t=436

Lol it runs great you fucking gpdtranny. Go buy a $1500 gimped laptop, see what I care.

keep your order
if emu scene improves, you win
if it doesn't you sell it for more than you paid, you win

My phone is 6.8 inches, and it's plenty pocketable.

Bezels are for screen protection you fucking sperg. Both are garbage though. Never buy anything white or silver unless you're retarded and black electronics are the most boring shit on the planet and also retarded because black takes in more solar heat than any other colar

You think that washed out shit show looks good?

Your phone also isn't as wide as the Switch, genius. Hence "tablet." Again, if I have to make compromises like removing the joycons just so it can fit into my pocket then it isn't an actual handheld like the Vita where the device can just be taken out and put away with no effort.
>Caring about the color.
Holy autism. Both have discreet coloring which is nice compared to toy blue and red.

Compared to the oled on vivd, yes. Just look at it.

it's still early tech, i hope the Steam Deck 2 is smaller and more comparable in size with the switch, would be a god send gift.

mostly fault of the PS2 emulator, that emulators is now for being shit since forever, you can get decent results if you actually set up a custom configuration for every game you play, but majority of people using it are brainlets.

Deck is awful, can't even emulate SNES and Genesis without stuttering, PC games don't work cause Linux can't run exe files, there's only one usb port so you can forget about using your steering wheel, pedals, gear shifter and head tracker while playing in handheld mode, and you'll get laughed at if trying to take it on a plane. And the price is almost as much as top tier gaming PC.

>I can play GBA games!
Wow.

I just played AoE2 on this with default controller settings. It played great! Honestly this is where Steam Deck shines, it seems like you can play so many types of games on it.

Shame about the fucking fan noise going WHIRRRRRR all the time though. Gonna RMA mine.

I had to buy jumbo 3rd party joycons because they’re literally made for children hands

lol if you think the deck can't run those, brainlet take, also good chunk of PC games run on linuxs or at least run trough Wine/Proton and at worst case you can install windows on the deck.

Steam Deck is already too small to comfortably play a lot of PC games like older RPGs with lot of text and inventory management, a lot strategy and management games, MMOs, etc., why would they make Deck 2 even smaller to further restrict games that can't be played on it? If anything, they will make the Deck 2 an actual 10 inch tablet size with detachable controllers.

Steam Deck needs the display to cover up the entire bezel really.

You can't get RMA for a working device moron. Submit an RMA towards laws of physics and thermodynamics if electronic devices that need cooling are bothering you.

Attached: 1619040358852.jpg (563x339, 20K)

>And the price is almost as much as top tier gaming PC.
Good bait until this line lol

They're accepting RMAs for the Delta fan (one causing the noise.)

Nah, Leddit said they accept RMA for the shitty fan versions. This isn't at all the advertised product.

How common is the Delta fan? I don't want to immediately send it back after waiting so long.

Attached: feabb6c92413f895bbdc81e9f0edfdfe.jpg (601x346, 111.06K)

It seems like a 50/50 thing. Makes me mad that Valve is still shipping out the shitty fans despite knowing it's a common problem.

No pro no buy.

Is it possible to get a spare fan I can install myself instead or just "lol see your Deck in a month"?

>RMA a perfectly fine working device
>Valve sends you the device with the same fan back, except this one also has a lot of other common problems like the B button sticking and haptics not working
>Now you got a worse device, while they got a better device back
Smart move on Valves part

Do the controllers on the Steamcube even detach? How are you supposed to carry it when you're not using it?

Nah I don't think you can buy the better fan yet. Most people just RMA it and Valve is aware it's an issue so they handle it pretty quickly from what I've read.

You need to wait for another year for Gabe to invent something that can carry physical objects around. The rumours are they're working on something called a Project Bag, but we'll see.

So how am I supposed to use the desktop mode? I can't even get the virtual desktop to show up.

See and cope.

Yeah they handle it quickly assuming your deck even reaches their warehouse, if it doesn't good luck, have fun with FedEx. Also good luck not getting a device with the same fan and 10 other problems your old one didn't have back. You'd have to be actually retarded to RMA if fan is the only issue.

>worried about PS3 performance on Deck
>stuff like Crack in Time and Skate 3 are still able to hit a stable 30
youtu.be/h_rkQag4FxA
I guess it'll be a by-game basis

>How are you supposed to carry it when you're not using it?
In a bag like everyone does with their Switch.
>I-IT'LL GET STOLEN!!!
>T-THEY'LL SEND BACK A UNIT WITH 10 ISSUES!!!
If you're okay with the fan then fine but it's not like you don't have the option to get it fixed lol

Yeah, but this faggot is kinda right
If I get a Deck and the only problem is the fan I am not sure I want to send it back. The question was about Valve sending me the fan so I can replace it myself. If it's not expensive I would probably just wait until parts are available for purchase instead of RMA. Of course if I get shit buttons or something I am sending that twink right back.

Nah even that stutters and drops frames later in the video. That emulator is dogshit, no matter what the devs say. Your best bet is waiting for it to improve or waiting for Xenia to pull ahead.

The thing about the shitty fan is that even at low watts it has this high pitch to it. So you can't really tweak it away since it's inherent to the fan. The better versions I believe are fairly quiet at lower wattages. So you miss out on a much better device.

>cope

Nigger go on reddit if you don't believe me. There are users already who got a device back and it has the exact same loud fan. There are tons of people who RMAed for B button sticking, and they got a new deck with not only the B button still sticking, but a louder fan, left trigger not working, etc.
If you want to spend the next 6 months playing the lottery with Valves quality control until you get a Deck with no problems, think twice before sending it back for a trivial made up issue.

I dont think I've ever used my Switch in handheld mode

Attached: 1642994185919.jpg (1027x1455, 1.06M)

Deck is a handheld. Switch is a portable home console.

And I'll repeat myself - there are bigger problems with the device you can have than the fan. And again the fag is right
Some plebbitors did get worse devices than they RMA'd if we trust what they post there. Hopefully I won't have to do shit. When are the parts going to be available anyway?

Absolutely retarded fear mongering. The Delta fans are defective and there is a simple solution which is just installing the other fan.

Reminds me of the fucking Game Gear when that came out but even more of a behemoth.

>how is the oled any more of a handheld?
>Neither can fit in your pocket
>hand
>pocket
You're pretty dumb.

Honestly when I got my switch recently I didnt thought I'd use it portable, but its comfy for couch gaming. At least on games that run fine while portable.

Thats some dumbass shit.

>good price for power
Terrible bait.

Im worried about drift, which is why I don't use handheld mode. I can always buy a new Pro Controller, which also works as a backup controller for my PC but fixing JC drift sounds like an unneeded waste of time

For new owners, remember to lower the ridiculous deadzone on the sticks. For some absurd reason, Valve has turned them up to extreme.

name a better handheld for the same price ($399)

four RG350s

>$399
The Switch OLED is better than the base level Deck in every way.

>Steamdeck pre-order pushed back to Q2
>Switch OLED sold out everywhere
>PS5 sold out everywhere
>Xbox sold out everywhere

What the fuck am I supposed to be playing? I might just shell out 200 bucks on a chinkheld to play some GameCube and PS2 emulators at this point.

>RG350s
no
lmao no

Just buy an Ayn Odin for less than half the price, better emulation and coming to you sooner.

Bro the basic ass Switch is still better than the Deck

Ayn Odin ($199)

lolno bro the Switch fucking sucks. Once you get a Steam Deck and realize just what an agile and powerful device it is, Switch will be redundant to you.

True, it's the best value for a console, especially when you consider you have to pay 4x more for the same games that run worse, don't support modding and need a monthly fee for multiplayer and cloud saves. It's a steal.

I dont even mind. By then hopefully warhammer 3 isnt total dogshit and i can play a campaign comfy in bed like I've always wanted.

>Better emulation
Top kek

This is an average PC user’s post. lol

>ITS JUST THE SAME SIZE AS THE SWITCH WITH THE THIRD PARTY LARGEST POSSIBLE, UNPOPULAR ATTACHMENT BROS!

The Deck can emulate the Switch LMAO

>Xbox sold out everywhere
I just got my SeX, sounds like you just need to git gud at console hunting.

>he plays Switch with the babby joke soicons

Steam Deck

enjoy hardware from 2014, paying full price for 4 year old games and paying to use your own internet

Haven't used at all in-game, joystick and gyro did the trick playing just cause 3. Ironically they're all I use for navigating the desktop and typing though, touchscreen is unusable

>>When docked Switch runs at full clocks with better resolution and performance
>>When undocked Switch underclocks itself to preserve battery life
Acshually, both versions of Switch are just underclocked Nvidia Shield devices.

but... is the nintendo killer... right? boys...

How do you install Proton Experimental?

the joycons are some of the worst controllers i've ever had the misfortune of using

Don't really care but I can finally play games I give a shit about on a handheld.

Attached: lr2.jpg (863x238, 39.21K)

Has anyone got Shogun 2 working?

Where to find the full image? Saucenao gives nothing and it's not on his site.

and very old nvidia shield devices

I can't even go back to 60hz monitors or worse 30fps gaming, the motion blur is unbearable.

>Ratchet & Clank, one of the most GPU-intensive games, runs at full speed
>Gran Turismo 4, the single most demanding game on the system, runs at full speed
You would have to be doing something really wrong to not get full speed from PCSX2.

go to the game you want to use it with and in "properties" go to "compatibility" and force the use of it.
to make it bleeding edge,go to the "tools" section in steam and scroll to experimental and go to the beta section and select "bleeding-edge"

>>Primary function: playing on TV
Lol no. My opinion of the Switch improved when I realized it was the other way around, it's the reason why docked is always an afterthought for image quality and performance. It's hopelessly underpowered as a living room/primary console.

thx

no problem, its nice to help new linux frens.

The experience have so far been much better than I ever expected from a different OS. I can't imagine ever using Windows on Deck given all the custom features Valve has implemented.

ETA Prime is literally the most retarded emufag to ever post on youtube. EVERY video he uploads has something wrong with at least one emulator. when anons bring up the concept that emulatorfags are more interested in seeing games run than actually playing them, the anons are talking about HIM - whether or not they know it. All he ever fucking does is boot a game up for 30 seconds to see how it performs and then move on to the next game. AND YET, he doesn't even care enough to properly set the games up. Mindboggling levels of incompetence. ETA is the sole reason for the bad reputation of emutards, both the kind that actually play games AND the "I just want to see how many games I can run" types (they do exist, but unlike ETrAnny they aren't fucking imbeciles and can actually read a 300 word wiki article to get the correct presets for PCSX2)

Can somebody explain OLED on the switch
Is HDR the same OLED?
Like if I play my switch on a hdr tv or monitor would I be seeing OLED?

HDR and OLED are different, and the OLED part only refers to the physical screen on the Switch itself.

that's great to hear, linux has evolved so much for gaming in the past few years and seeing normal players liking it more than windows (even in a small number of circumstances) brings imminence joy (i was worried that windows would strangle PC gaming forever,no matter how good proton became.

>I expected it to be closer to desktop 1050
gpu performance doesn't matter for ps2 emulation. The only important factor is the cpu there

Is this why my R7 3700X had so much trouble playing RE Outbreak?

artsist's name is right there

PS2 emulation is really dependent on how fast different cores can talk to each other since that's vital for emulating the different processors on the ps2. AMD cpus didn't catch up to Intel in that area until zen 3, 5000 cpus.

Here you go user.
gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=6596611&tags=neocoill megumin

It makes me mad when people can't find sauce for a drawing as I draw myself and would want them to find my drawing easily if they wanted to.

>I feel like it's worth it for the $400 version with an SSD upgrade
you're not going to find a meme size 2230 SSD that actually fits in the deck that hasn't also had its price inflated out the ass, and if you're not careful, it could consume way more power and produce way more heat than the one it already comes with

Thanks user.

You'll also want to install Proton-GE for any game that uses weird video/audio codecs. gamingonlinux.com/2022/03/protonup-qt-got-upgraded-heres-how-to-use-it-on-steam-deck-and-linux/

>Ace Combat 7 on Steam Deck
That OST really putting those speakers to the test, what a perfect game for the device

Attached: ac7alert.jpg (870x529, 57.45K)

It just pisses me off to this day because I thought the 3700X was a "higher end" CPU and it has been shit for PS2 emulation. I think Rule of Rose and Haunting Ground are the only games I got to play flawlessly.

At the time of it's release its a great cpu for everything besides emulation. Intel has been winning on demanding emulators since forever basically so it makes more sense going for them if that's what you're looking for.

How do you use virtual keyboard in desktop mode?

I have a steam deck and am playing through THPS3 and Jak and Daxter currently, both upscaled to 720p and working at a solid 60 fps. Plays excellent on my TV too, I have a PS2 hooked up but I choose to use the Steam deck for the upscaling. What are you talking about?

It's a Steam button shortcut, idk I don't have one but you could probably look it up.

i think its steam button + X

>At least DOS or something
Probably your phone could handle that. I emulate fallout 1, oregon trail, and Sam & Max sometimes with MagicDosBox.

it's probably a gpd/aya shill
those systems cost 3x-4x as much as a deck and have worse performance and battery life in all games - except for cpu-bound emulation which is an extremely niche categoy that *only* happens in half a dozen PS2 games and roughly 5% of the ps3's catalog, that's literally it; where you can see up to 10% better perf than the deck (for 400% more money lmao)
chinks have latched on to emulation as the last bastion of hope for their overpriced devices, but hating emulation is also endemic to nin10yearolds.

That absolutely isn't to say that there is no fair criticism of the deck. It's rather large, the fan is apparrently noisy, the battery life isn't very good for high demand games, performance is only about on par with a base ps4, the screen isn't amazing; I could go on. ***The most important thing to note, and the reason chinks harp on emulation so much, is that the deck still does absolutely all of those things better than any other handheld and for a third to a quarter of the price.*** Emulating a few ps2/ps3 titles is the only place where gpdumbass/aya negro shills can claim a technical victory.

many of them probably need to justify the 1500 dollar device that for the most part is consistently worse, and the deck is running under a compatibility layer half the time (proton is amazing, but is is still not native)

>roughly 5% of the ps3's catalog
NTA but don't be disingenuous, Steam Deck really isn't powerful enough to emulate the vast majority of PS3 games. Even Persona 5 struggles to stay at 30 FPS without audio stretching enabled.

You've been beta testing your whole life lmao, how's THAT experience going, retard?
Huff fart, faggot.

cool it is also 3 pounds lighter, you get hand fatigue just holding the meme deck

Man I can play AoE2 on a handheld now and the experience is actually good wtf

Smartphones can do that but the amount of emulation software ported limits what they and ARM in general can do.

For a generation 1 product, the Deck is pretty amazing especially from a company whose had hit or miss hardware. The price is really what makes it a heavy hitter in the space and a genuine threat, but not direct competition for now, to existing console hardware.

I worded it poorly, what I meant was that the gpd/aya only perform better for about 5% of the catalog but I can see that's not really what I typed. Yeah the deck isn't really sufficient for ps3 - but it isn't getting absolutely mogged by other devices either. I'm still not entirely sure WHY it isn't getting mogged; 8c16t zen3 should absolutely rape 4c8t zen2 in rpcs3 but real world performance shows that the gpd/neo next only beat the deck in roughly 5% of the ps3 games catalog, which is what I meant to say.

I have a 5700g and I've tried rpcs3 on it, from what I saw the vega gpu actually did become the bottleneck but it was still getting better perf than either the deck or chinkhelds. maybe it has to do with the power envelope? my 5700g was lightly overclocked but I saw almost *zero* difference in evrey other benchmark compared to stock. it was pulling over 90 watts though, so maybe the sub 30w power target really gimps the 8c16t zen3 all the way down to half as many zen 2 cores? I hope someone looks into it and tries disabling half the cores on a chink deck to see if it actually gains performance

I'm so annoyed. I'm really warming up to the Deck now but this $1 chink fan is giving me headaches. Reminds me of PS4. Even lowering wattage to 4-5 Watts still has that screech to it as if it was running Cyberpunk in 4K. Why do hardware manufacturers always cheap out on the fans???

Attached: n6bbnE.jpg (960x893, 168.77K)

i own a switch but recently I got a PS Vita. I must say I appreciate the smaller pocketable design even if it is unlikely I will play it in public. Only annoying thing is it's uncomfortable because my hands must be larger than the Jap target audience.

I would really like the steam deck though unfortunately it is impossible to get in Australia.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 181.81K)

the switch with hori split controller is lighter than air???you dumb fucking limp-wristed beta bitch niggertendie faggot the deck only weighs 1.5 pounds to begin with

>I'm still not entirely sure WHY it isn't getting mogged;
Deck has a faster memory feed and I believe a 2/4/8 amount of CPU cores is superior for emulation due to how cores behave. And let's not downplay that GPU does matter to some extent too.

800 gr

1h of battery

All those games are better on a 27-32" 1440p

Attached: 1592064266518.jpg (996x682, 63.95K)

>performance is only about on par with a base ps4
I don't think this is a legit complaint, when it launched it had the best integrated GPU of the entire mobile market, and it is GPU wise the most powerful handheld PC with the weaker CPU caveat but that's a fringe case for emulation and few titles that run better on the competing chinese devices.

Now the Ryzen 6000 laptops coming out will have similar and better iGPUs with the 6600U and 6800U, but you have to temper your expectations with a ultra mobile PC, they can't afford to have even a GTX 1650 mobile because it the dedicated GPU's thermals can't be cooled and especially the power draw being too high for the size of the battery they can afford to have in order to have tolerable battery life when playing games, also compared to the Switch the Deck is way more powerful, side by side comparisons of Witcher 3 on the Switch vs the Deck really show, among other games that can be played on both platforms

GPD is gonna launch a GPD Win Max 2 with a Ryzen 6800U variant, that should be interesting but from the looks of it, that shit is gonna cost around 1500 dollars guaranteed

>also compared to the Switch the Deck is way more powerful, side by side comparisons of Witcher 3 on the Switch vs the Deck really show, among other games that can be played on both platform
I was pretty shocked playing Witcher 3 on Deck at 800p 50-60 fps. Supposedly it takes a performance hit with Proton too. Meanwhile Switch has it at 500p 30 fps despite system specific coding. I am really impressed by the Deck graphics performance. They went all out and it shows.

>performance is only about on par with a base ps4
Only in terms of raw tflops numbers, but the new architecture is more efficient so net result should favour the deck by a fair amount.
But the other issues are legit, and I'll add a lot of the software feels half baked, especially the desktop mode.
Still, the pricing point is simply impossible to beat right now, especially on the base 64GB model.
