Too expensive and too niche to survive.

14 is pretty good.

youtube.com/watch?v=FE832M_0jgM

New World is nearly here

All modern MMOs are this weird thing where you can do everything by yourself and never have to interact with others. A good MMO should encourage you to interact with others in some way, whether that be cooperation or competition.

WoW classic is still alive as fuck

Dont fear evolution

>FF14
>good
Good joke user, next thing you'll tell me that WoW is good or rather XIV took all the good things about WoW and made it better without realizing there is no such thing as good and the game is nothing more than a Weeb WoW-clone with a mediocre story. It's not an MMO, it's a god damn Single Player game and it continues the horrid design that WoW brought to the table. MMOs are nearly beyond saving at this point and XIV doesn't help its case.
Bring that up to WoWfags and XIVfags and you'll be told that its archaic and a thing of the past. No one has time to group up or prepare for raids, dungeons or anything of the like.

And now it's time for you to go too.

What has evolved though? You have WoW and XIV at the top currently with stagnant designs that are bleeding players slowly. Evolution implies the genre hasn't kept to the WoW formula for years.

Ending of this sucked

Many old MMORPGs are still playable.

Come save wizard city, user

I wanted MS2 to be the new good MMO since I remember MS being so social, but they just missed the mark by a little bit by putting in the epic quest and the dungeon finder. It otherwise does a pretty alright job at getting people together, which I believe to be the best feature of a multiplayer game. Kind of a shame.

How about both?

Attached: mmo.png (3840x1080, 1.12M)

They'd need to really change shit up if you want interactions, i mean look at pic related. Last expansion's endgame dungeons for FFXIV. You think you need interaction for that? I could only imagine WoW is worse off.

The problem with the "other people" thing is that now, MMO player pools are just ERPers and people who are plain shit at games.

Attached: 64.png (300x100, 32K)

Pretty much this. ERPers make the majority of the revenue and have lower standards so better to cater towards them. WoW is infested with furries and XIV is infested with diaperfags and those faggots make each game's revenue explode compared to raiders, crafters and even casual players.

As much of it dying is only half true, I've been having fun with Eve online again lately.
Unfortunately, this is fun despite CCP's finest efforts to ruin it.

Why are new MMOs so afraid of re-writing the formula? Look at OSRS, one of the most popular MMOs out there. It's an MMORPG, yet is nothing like WoW like the rest are. It disgusts me that developers are too scared to take a risk and try something different.

so I was talking to a fag this other day and he said that WoW was the most hardcore mmo when it came out, when I mentioned Star Wars Galaxies to him he said it was probably a shit game because he never heard of it

How so? We knew it would happen anyways, and it ended on a positive note with Haruo finally admitting his feelings and promising to chase Ono. Can't wait for the sequel and see how Haruo pumped Ono full of kids.

I think it happened gradually.
At the beginning hundreds of other players were something amazing, but nowadays they're seen more and more as a hindrance for your progress.

>mmorpgs have had the same shitty tab targeting action bar combat for 15+ years now

OSRS is fine, dont let the haters bullshit you

Been playing PSO2, it's fun.
It's hardly "massive" but the actual game is enjoyable at least. I'd rather have enjoyable combat than big pointless empty zones like WoW or XIV.

Dead genre is dead.
MMO's are the arcades of videogames. It's dead, move on.

>PSO2
>enjoyable combat
Damn son.

started playing rotmg again after four years or so
surprisingly active still

Attached: latest[1].png (192x192, 428)

Compared to the rest of the genre, absolutely
Tera comes close but PSO's weapon swapping and subclasses give it an edge.
Only other action combat MMOs I can think of are ESO (bland skinner box with baby-size hotbar for retards) and Korean grindshit like BDO, BnS and Archeage.

I remember it being super pay to win. How is the game these days?

is ever quest 2 worth even trying to play these days?

too much content nowadays its too bloated. should have split portal at the nexus for vanilla realm and new shit

I don't think any mmo is worth trying these days.

WoW only required interaction for the hardest content, still is that way, except now shitters get filtered before reaching it.

WoW raiders make $$$ Because they rather drink bleach than level up, but yeah.

Still waiting for a game that is focused on boss fight like raids (MH doesn't count).

Vindictus was blessed and based.
Fuck Nexon.

Based. Have you been grinding for the Level 130 Catacombs gear? Just got the Vanguard Hat, Robe, and Boots, letting me hit 10,000+ HP for free.

>The amount of teamwork you need to take down a boss in mmorpg and MH can't even be compared.
Just don't make the mechanics based on the holy trinity.
Then everyone can do whatever they want.

I think the major issue is these games don't have engaging content.
Why we have 50 quests of simple things instead of 5 very complex quests? They can't, that would require invest a lot of time developing, writing, being creative.
They just wanna put you on a treadmill and lock you there forever. It's a hamster wheel, the whole genre is a big hamter wheel.
And on top of it all you have the tehcnical difficulties of making engaging gameplay in an online enviroment.
Which is why i think these BR, Arma, Conans or other 1 map, 1 server kind of structured multiplayer is the way to go for a compromise between a multiplayer enviroment and gameplay depth. If we just expand the concept, we could reach something "massive" with it one day, or close to it.

dilate

I don't get which one you're praising or bashing.

vindictus has no difficulty, whats the point in action combat when you can literally smash buttons blindfolded and still win
pic related suffers the same problem

Attached: 1473385967283.jpg (400x400, 39K)

Have any no-life MMOs come out in the last 10 years or so
I feel they've all gone casual

what you are failing to see is that EVERY game has a gameplay loop
the issue with mmos is not that they are hamster wheels, all games are, the problem is that mmos are shitty hamster wheels

Low amount of quests and kill any sort of finders, AH can stay but with some delay or something that benefits local market. Also, world pk (but with pve tags for those who don't want) and gvg.

>(but with pve tags for those who don't want)
this is gay and takes muh immersion away

Vindictus had (some) difficulty, the issue was LOLNEXONLOL.

If they were good they wouldn't have died.

>end game dungeons
And what? Dungeons aren't where you'd typically gear up. FFXIV raids are the late game and they're worlds ahead of WoW

>Grind for gear so you can grind for higher gear

Wow, fun. I can't believe that genre is dead wow. I love having gameplay locked behind gear farming.

There's no other way to have world PK, you could set it for certain areas (or maybe based on level) but that's about it. Was there even a release with world PK in those last 10 years?

I get it don't worry but the main goal of a single player is not to put you on that wheel. That's not the reason the game exists, unlike a MMO.
A single player game tries to make sure the wheel is fun enough so stay until the end. Be it to experience the story they want to tell you, or to reach some content or feature they made for this experience, it varies but the point is the wheel is not the goal in itself.
Now MMO's on the other hand...it's all about locking you in that wheel nad stretch the experience over as many hours as possible, trying to make you open your wallet in the process.
The goals are different and it's why the malice of lootboxes created such an outrage and they had to back down. You saw how it was killing single player games. When your goals go from making the experience enjoyable to designing a psycological trap, the game side will suffer. And which is why mmo's can never move on to something engaging. The whole goal of the genre is not to provide you with a good experience.

>All the upcoming AAA MMOs like Marvel Future REvolution and Warhammer: ODYSSEY are for Mobile
>Odds are all of the big Kickstarter MMOs will be shit, die immediately, and/or never come out

BDO

eso and fo76 are good mmos

Attached: 1390767825533.jpg (300x188, 19K)

i think opt out pvp is the worst thing ever that kills all mmo's
you should be fucking scared traveling the wilderness of the game world scared of the possibility of another faction member being around, having these safe space bullshit options kills interaction and goes against the entire point of the game being multiplayer at all
without the pvp its a literal dungeon/raid simulator with a shitty grindwall before you can actually do any of that and the lore/story is edgy 12 year old fantasy tier gtfo with taking that shit remotely seriously
fuck anti pvp bitches

I wanted Gran Skrea to be good but it waqs so fucking unfinished it hurts to think about it.

heres hoping pantheon is decent

You now realize gaming is popular as fuck and more mainstream than ever. No longer are you ridiculed and made fun of because there are tons of Chad streamers making it look cool for normies and raking in enormous amounts of money even though they mostly suck at every game they play, they build a fanbase on having a personality rather than being autistic at a video game. Normies have the latest phones, purchased every 16 months or so to stay up to date with the latest stuff, so of course gaming is moving to mobile.

Wildstar really shouldn’t had died the death it died. Funnest mmo I had played

maybe the real problem with mmos is the fact that no one dared to code one that actually feels like a good experience to be had

>me enjoying FF14 every day while all yall retards out here pretending you're nostalgic for old clunky barren MMOs (who all have functioning private servers but yall fags will never ever play them anyway) when in reality you're just nostalgic for your childhood

Yeah, I remember how shit the gameplay was, what about it?

Attached: 1569242882997.gif (320x180, 1.07M)

No, Brad literally killed himself, most likely because the game was in development hell.

they somehow managed to make it even worse

Lost Ark western release when?
If Nexon or NCsoft are responsible for the port then never mind.

define MMO

Then you have whole guilds or autists bullying certain level/grind and none wants to waste time killing them. Don't get me wrong, I love the thrill, just don't think it's going to work properly this way.
>factions
WoW? You could kill NPCs there in the middle of nowhere and none would give a shit, it wasn't functional at all, even if it ruins immersion the game should have some decent guards, I personally dislike the factions system too, taking away regular gvg is a big deal. Also, sorry for the late answer. was writting some long text about PW's implementation of World PvP but noticed it was a bit autistic

korean friend of mine says that game is a mess but didn't really go into detail about why

Does it really matter at this point? It was way too bad to be playable before.

i think the division/runescape did it best
you can have a safe city or whatever but you want the actual good shit you need to venture into the pvp area and risk loosing everything from your expedition or currently equipped
the real frustration in pvp comes from when you have to kill 500 pigs and you keep getting into fights, thats the quest/objective being retarded not the pvp being the problem

to add to this even if you manage to kill your attacker in almost all mmo's you get fucking nothing compared to finishing whatever fetch-quest you have so even winning feels less satisfying since you just lost time for no reward

>WoW and XIV at the top currently
I think WoW and ESO are in the top currently. ESO has really came a looong way since its release.

Oh user don't cry, something can't die if it never existed to begin with.

Attached: 47.jpg (227x222, 6K)

Return of Reckoning is surprisingly active and has a pretty interactive community. Fun as hell, too.

Attached: 1582756988464.jpg (1024x796, 235K)

ff14 dungeons are literally tubes where you kill easy enemies in between bosses that are easy but often kill one or two people because they don't know a mechanic. raids are literally just scripted events where you memorize button presses and die 100 times anyway because people are low IQ. you may as well play DDR. there are no dungeons where you have to coordinate and be fluid/make decisions to keep the group running and know your class. after playing wow classic for a bit last year i realized how shit dungeons have become.

I still miss Marvel Heroes Omega, bros.

>WoW Classic had to come back from the dead to show people again what made MMO's great
>It's not even it's final form

how is ff11 Yea Forumsfags? i want a good mmo to play but feel like the charm is probably gone and it's all just endgamers being autistic now

More like

>all MMORPGs that didn't focus on immediate gratification have died

Attached: SWG_Vanguard_covers.jpg (975x733, 288K)

You mean WoW Classic.

Problem with SWG and Jedi is you can tell developers REALLY didn't want to include them in the first place, but fanbase wanted their fucking glow sticks.

Fucking this. They haven't died, shit player dynamics killed them.

youtube.com/watch?v=obU8sw2A0MA you made me look for this, how could you.

yeah I remember it would've been ten times the game had funcom made it into a singleplayer game. funny story - it was initially pitched that way, but funcom wanted that sweet subscription dosh AND they saw how longest journey games got pirated.

*yawn* call me when they add group finder

There's always OSRS.

Attached: 42058.png (478x156, 111K)

vanguard had potential but it needed at least 10 times the budget and less incompetent leaders to ever get anywhere near being a polished game like wow or ff14

To be fair I'd say FF14 launched in even worse state than Vanguard. Consider how extensive its rework was for ARR.

problem is everything that tried something else either dead or is so niche it might as well not exist. real problem is 90% of really do just want bigger numbers getting bigger and to have immediate goals in front of them.

Attached: tale in the desert.jpg (1280x720, 151K)

>Brad literally killed himself
proof?

He said good mmos

That sounds really cool, but wouldn't people camp areas or stuff like that? For example a whole guild dominating one specific area and a player alone can't do shit. Also, if you don't mind I'm going to share a Perfect World's system that I like very much.
You had PvP/PvE, PvP and PvE servers, you could toggle your tag after level 30 in those PvE/PvE servers and there was a long delay to toggle again, PvE players name were blue, PvP white, then you had PKs who killed players without them fighting back and their name became red, it gets more red the more innocents you kill and it starts vanishing after few hours without killing anyone, the first one is 2 hours and it stacks until 200 hours, it's like a wanted system. Anyone's name attacking someone will become pink during the battle and will have a chance of an item dropping if they die (Also death penalty, which is 5% xp, big deal for that game), the rate is increased for PKs and they can be hunted down like dogs. It's pretty nice how it can punishes PK's and make people kinda afraid of starting a fight or killing innocents in full PvP servers. PK hours are logged hours and guards in villages or cities will fuck you up, the safest way to lose it was going to the middle of nowhere

>Eve online
last time I tried it I joined a corp and had to register on 12 different platforms for various online tools, forums and communication tools. Call me when it's possible to have fun with a small casual corp instead of huge anonymous clusterfucks that feel like you're joining some bureaucratic kafkaesque corporation nightmare that require you to be diagnosed with full on autism.

I've played BDO over the past 2 days and I can see a really good game.... under all that f2p korean cash-shop garbage.
80% of my inventory is clustered with coupons, vouchers, tickets, boosters, buff items, event crap, tons of items of indetermined use.
Why couldn't they have kept it simple? I don't even mind the grind since the gameplay is pretty good. I'm not even talking about the blatant p2w.

Potentially great game killed by greedy publisher.

I've been enjoying Star Break. Mainly because it's simply a run n gun game that's easy to hop into.

Another user explained it well, korean dev just put business first before everything else. Its why their games always end up so shitty.

if you just want to be a crafter and gatherer ff14 is one of the best mmos of all time, no contest

This game taught me that space is reddit as fuck without other people, it's the group you're part of that gives your actions meaning. I love this game so fucking much.

trust is a very fragile thing, have you ever seen huge guilds dominating the pvp area in runescape?
if you dont implement a "prevent friendly fire" mechanic people really dont zerg/camp as much
the point is its doable but its not something you can copy paste from something already successful so thats why you just wont see a proper full potential mmo

Never.

based, it might be poorly handled and infested with chinks but it's probably the best MMO to play right now for those who likeclass variety, raiding and gear treadmills

if you like pvp give warhammer online pserver a try. I'm not sure how long it will last but you can start pvping pretty early. they give you a level buff for the first level bracket so you can compete hp and defense and attackwise. would pay to do a little research into the class you wanna play on both sides.

They are almost mirrors but with some important differences you need to decide between.

LONDON?

As well.

they have invented a lot of mechanics.
Thats the problem - if you bothered to read my post.
Cancer asian mmo retention mechanics:
>gear enchant autism with high failure rates.
>30+ different reps to grind.
>frustrating inventory management
>literally no content beyond fashion and raids
all in an effort to piss you until u submit to the cash shop.

this, this fucking culture of implementing low-effort sciotechiniques to pad out number and every monetization scheme imaginable to part you with your money is what killed genere.
i want a fucking world where i can escape from horrors of real life, not a place where i'm constantly reminded it's cash race and even dev sees you as credit card number not player.

I remember solo'ing bams on tera, but occasionally seeing people struggling to do it. When I asked them if they wanted help and they thanked me...jess, that was a good feeling.

I think I'm burned out on mmo/online games with shit loads of quests. I get to the point where I can't even stomach them anymore. Recently played Phantasy Star Online ep 1&2 awhile back and was shocked at how little side quests that game had but still managed to play enough importance to the main game. If episode 1 was release today that game would have had thousands of side quests on launch. What kills me are those mobile/gatcha shit games, I tried my first mobile/gacha shit game a few weeks ago and those games just bleed never ending quests, side quest, event quest, etc. a week.

is it really good? i just want to do cool shit and level up some characters

yeah.. i feel bad for ppl growing up in this current climate thinking "oh this is what gaming is"
it's a fucking cultural travesty.

No one enjoys runescape. Its living proof that people will waste there time as long as every now and then a screen will pop up saying good job you leveled up *insert skill that requires repetitive action*

ArcheRage is being updated to custom 4.5 in a few weeks, still going strong.

NOOO YOU DONT ENJOY IT I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU

Mabinogi.
>nice simple anime aesthetic with really nice CGs and portraits
>runs on a toaster
>storyline where you aren't the singular all powerful being but one of many
>action based combat, no auto attack gcd rotation bullshit
>like a dozen combat skillsets that all play differently
>depth in life sim aspects like homesteading and farming
>complex crafting and life skills that actually reward playing for those roles
>guild activities beyond raids
>full family system
>great quests that go beyond the typical kill and fetch quests
Of course, it's also Nexon and has some really bad P2W aspects, but fortunately the P2W only matters for absolute endgame content and even then only really if you're trying to solo it. Honestly the biggest problems I've got with it are the intense Korean grinding autism for certain skill sets combined with the fact that there's only one decent (and very tedious) way to level quickly. Still one of my favorite games though.

Attached: 1381461647472.jpg (550x365, 32K)

Forgot to mention but also a fairly unique leveling system that rewards playing many skillsets and different types of content and puts significantly less importance on character level grinding.

God bless it, and god bless mom

>Problem with SWG and Jedi is you can tell developers REALLY didn't want to include them in the first place, but fanbase wanted their fucking glow sticks.
No one wanted Jedi retard. Smedley and the retarded LA people fucked shit up. People were perfectly happy with living in a lore-appropriate SW universe, they could just add a minor force sensitivity option similar to what they did later with village quests (the stuff you got before becoming a full Jedi) and it would've been perfectly fine.

Come play WAR:RoR. Pretty fun

WoW Ascension.

Completely free private server that has entirely custom mechanics, events and shit. There are no classes, you pick abilities and talents from any class and spec you like as you level. It runs on the 3.3.5 client but they are still on Vanilla content, TBC coming soon.

What makes an MMO an MMO is your ability to talk to other players and their ability to respond and possibly join you doing content. When you don't try these things you will have a mediocre time.

>hunger bar
Into the trash.

I mean it sounded interesting and I'm sure eating every now and then isn't that bad but for what purpose?

Attached: vomit1.gif (230x230, 954K)

>Hunger Bar

Wat? There isn't any hunger in the game.

The first video I checked on jewtube said so, you sure?
Maybe they dropped it, it's an older video.

100% sure. I played it some time last year, it's good for a fuck about every now and then. They have normal servers and a seasonal one where you have to pick between 3 random abilities every other level so you kinda just have to make it work.

MMOs got ruined by so called "soloplayers."
Literal retards that want to play alone in a Massive Multiplayer Online game.

I don't want to play alone user. I just don't know how not to.

Attached: 1582437225028.jpg (465x465, 70K)

It wasn't ruined by the solo players. It was the scummy players who'd drop out of the team at the worst moment on purpose, the ones who bumrushed the mobs when no one was prepared causing a party wipe, the ones who scammed other players on trade, the ones who rolled for the loot every time even though they didn't need it...

It was easier to play solo than bother with all that shit.

Alright I'll check it out, sounds really cool.

fuck

Attached: 1579315100548.png (720x720, 462K)

Yeah, it's the fault of there being resistance, that you and some other lazy niggers like you ruined a genre mindlessly chasing the path of least resistance.

>.png
phew

It's definitely good to mess around with for a bit, you can try out some stupid combinations. It's even got custom talents and changes to make hybrid builds better.

>there being resistance
So let me get this straight. It not the fault of scumbag players that the game died but the people who said fuck it and either went solo or left?

>Fat guy with titties playing a female character
This is your average ERPer.

Attached: 1512423242650.png (320x179, 22K)

Lazy niggers will be lazy niggers.

That is why you finish most dungeons in most modern MMos in a few seconds these days? Just rushing through it 20 times in under one hour? While nobody is talking, with absolutely no strategy? Just dungeon finder?
That was the charm of it, that there was some conflict, that you need to work together or die. It made it interesting to play in huge groups. Unlike now. All real players might as well just be npcs.

its also the current average TERA player

Yes. If you're not in the mood to put up with other players, play a singleplayer game.

>mmo with an energy limit
Yeah, fuck that

fishing lvl?

Lmao fuck off I played and got to level 60 in WoW. Hour and a half long dungeons arent fucking fun or interesting keep that shit in raids. I speak the same for any other gook shit mmo.

Yes they are, you just never experienced them because you skipped through everything, always picking the easiest option. Its not just about dungeons, either. The most fun I had with WoW was with regular open world quests, that also got ruined by you retards. That do not, under any circumstances want to team up because you have to hit max level in under 3 days for some retarded reason.
Can't just spend some good times with another player, actually having fun in a regular zone.
Nah, you'd rather come home from work to do some more work.

What that guy said.
Playing classic made me realize that spending 2h in a shitty dungeon cuz you are playing with some fuckups isn't fun.
It's fun for the first few times but gets old quick.

All the hate videos of hunters pulling and making everyone wipe were made for a reason, cuz it triggered people even back then.

Nah WoWs only "real" content was leveling and exploring even then not the collect 30 boars ballsacks that have a 4% drop rate.

The problem is they’re all Skinner boxes. Too much bullshit going on and you’re just in a server with other slaves that are paying a fee to be slaves. That’s why my favorite MMO is Rust. Yes, I know, but it’s what I consider a real one. No arbitrary and forced shit making you grind or wait. You want something? Kill it and take it. Want the “best” gear? Kill the fucker that has it and take it. All the armor in these MMOs is worthless because you just follow a certain path and quest line to get it. It’s not perfect but Rust is it for me. Don’t have to pay monthly like a cuck either. They’re dead anyways, people aren’t going to deal with that.

Guy who responded wasn't the one you asked.
After CoH/CoV died I dropped MMOs in general. I had .hack//IMOQ and //GU to take care of that MMO itch, then the PSP Phantasy Star Online games, and more recently I had Xenoblade Chronicles.

85.

Play ESO

Attached: Screenshot_20200304_124734.png (1769x899, 3.14M)

Both was fun. Seeing as the game went downhill with raidaddicts and soloshitters like you, it only proves my point.
People started leaving the game until the 30 boars ballsack quests were removed and you could level a character to max level in one day.
You don't even have to enter 90% of zones in WoW to reach max level.

Nice.

Define modern, I know one MMO that requires playing with a group to begin advancing to the endgame, once you're geared you can solo with some difficulty (enough that high geared players just group) and send shit to your new characters so you don't have group, and playing the hardest, most rewarding content in the game requires hours of training runs and communication. Then we just got a new zone that's kicking the ass of great geared people thinking they cam solo everything so it's encouraging grouping even more than a new zone regularly would encourage grouping.

In the real world, you can win the genetic lottery and cruise through life without a hitch, just by being born beautiful. You only have to be your usual attractive self and people will automatically be happy and treat you with kindness. Meanwhile, in a game with in-depth character customization, you have to earn that sort of advantage. You have to work hard, finding the perfect notch on every slider. People already have an incredibly high standard for beauty. The line that separates average and beautiful, or uncanny and endearing is extremely thin. It's only exacerbated by the fact that it's online, as our standards become even higher on the net.

If you have the talent and the dedication to make your character beautiful, you should be entitled to the rewards of fame and success. You've earned it. This is how the world should be.

Rejoice OP! For only in a few months time, our Lord and Saviour Bannerlord will release and Persistent Kingdoms will be ported over!

If thou don't knowst what I am talking aboot, read this, knave persistent-kingdoms.com/tutorial

Not at all, it was part of the fun. To deal with good people and with not so good ones.
There were even a lot of memes created back in the day tied to every class. Which was also meant for fun.
These days all of that just plainly died off. Which is just sad. It was part of that massive multiplayer experience.
You're that kind of guy who would completely revamp all of runescape just because you can rob other players in the game.

Attached: paladin.jpg (990x553, 150K)

>can't afford a GF but can afford law runes

yeah but at the same time I hate playing with randoms, especially when it's difficult to communicate with them (they're either shy or just don't speak english which I don't understand how it can still be so common in europe) and/or just rush everything so playing with others is just trying to keep up with them.
I mostly play online generally but I'm not very fond of cooperating with randoms

Wildstar was a bizarre mix of completely awesome and completely awful.

Attached: 789.jpg (1303x1600, 227K)

Tibia is still very much alive

I don't understand people who like this special effect gallore games. Imagine 3 other people doing the same shit you're doing next to you.
Yeah.

>You're that kind of guy who would completely revamp all of runescape just because you can rob other players in the game.
Never played Runescape no idea what that means.

BDO is pretty fun, and all the new player servers are crowded right now because of steam. flying around as a Lahn and fishing is top notch to me. only ever played RS as far as mmos go besides BDO, so im by no means an expert.

It's a Ponzi scheme, don't bother. The grognards that still play just try to get other people to play so you can be "content" for them to blow up in between spinning their ship in station for two hours. No matter how much time you sink into it you will never catch up to the people who started before you without joining the pay to win whales.
Unless they do a server reset or open a new one, don't bother.

You can be a really horrible person, completely ruining another players game by killing him and stealing all his possessions.
I can imagine you would cry like a little bitch in that case.

Took only 3seconds to give me eye cancer when watching that webm.

Meant for:

>you will never play ragnarok online for the first time

Attached: sadcat.jpg (503x501, 60K)

They didn't die, they just switched to gacha to grab your money easier.

Hell no I love openworld pvp, murdering and stealing in MMOs.
Fucking with people is the best.

I was a well known Thief and murder in Silkroad.

At least one person has taste ITT.

So why do you complain about shitty people in MMOs then? You're one of them apparently.

>MMOs
I really really like the concept of them but have never seriously gotten into one for more than like 3 hours max. The grind, the fact that you have to get like super invested, and the fact that you need friends or the ability to make friends kinda pushed me away. It's mostly the fact that the starts are always slow and the huge timesink.

>if you dont want to spend 100 hours of game time reaching cap level then you must be a shitter who wants instant gratification and only thinks about Raiooding

No I like XIV because its a great blend of world building and PvE content. Its not for everyone and thats fine but its the best we've got. Mindless grinding for the sake of grinding is fucking retarded and the hard drop off from classic proves that Classic WoW was a game for autistic neckbeards.

Attached: 1581388582447.png (500x375, 22K)

thats how teenagers work

>the grind, the fact that you have to get like super invested
That's a thing of the past though.
Nowadays playing 1h per day is enough to keep up with the others thx to the daily system that every game has now.

The times where the poopsocks ruled the server are over.

Lifeweb is still kickin, though

Its not grinding, or it didn't use to be. Maybe for you its grinding, since you're a soloshitter that always needs everything immediately.
You were meant to stay in one zone longer than a week before going to the next.

>confined in the same shitty zone killing the same shitty zone seeing the same shitting trees and rocks every fucking day for a week
Yeah, great gameplay pal

The sooner you realize it the better you feel: MMOs were always shit and they only became better by removing all the shitty grind that always existed. If you think killing 200 bears to get a 1% drop or 1% exp is fun then you have some serious problem. I loved to death Ragnarok Online but if you think that I'd still replay it today with the same gameplay I'd obviously fucking won't, or at least I'd try and get bored after 5 minutes. Who the fuck wants to kill 500 of the same fucking retarded mob.
The only thing that got worse in the years is the community, but that's not a problem with MMOs by itself but by how the internet evolved, thank social media/smartphones for this.

>The only thing that got worse in the years is the community, but that's not a problem with MMOs by itself but by how the internet evolved, thank social media/smartphones for this.
I blame parents for not slapping their shitty children when they deserve it.
Parents give no fuck when their children scream asshole and fuck you into their mic when playing online for some reason but flip their shit when they do it irl.

People used to have manners even online.

I don't know how to interact with others.

When MMOs were actually big, none of today's most popular genres were even around (moba, battle royale, etc). The incoming players go play more attractive games while older generations snapped out of the MMO trap and moved on.
Modern players realize that spending the majority of your playtime mentally zoning out while walking to a destination, spamming to find a group, grinding the same mobs, or doing dailies to keep up with pixels is poor use of their time. They might hop on a new an MMO, but they will move on when they notice the game trying to put them on a hamster wheel.

Attached: puncharpw89aw3r.jpg (680x648, 35K)

I wouldn't have spent the past 12 years without a single friend or acquaintance if it was that simple.

I played Classic when it came out.
I made the mistake of joing a Yea Forums guild.
They literally downloaded an addon that allows to use twitch emotes in the chat.
There was nothing but shitty gay ass memes in the guild chat and when I asked for help they went "git gud" "imagine needing help for anything lmao" and shit like that.

I wish I was joking

Based. The last thing that i want to do after sitting in the wagie cagie for 9 hours a day is come home and do more work. Fuck MMOs.

Age of wushu was fun, sandbox mmos are the best. I miss the NoTrabbu niggas and the favela wars

>Modern players realize that spending the majority of your playtime mentally zoning out while walking to a destination, spamming to find a group, grinding the same mobs, or doing dailies to keep up with pixels is poor use of their time.
By this logic nobody would play RPGs tho. Or heck, they wouldn't waste money on cosmetics that are just a bunch of pixels and nothing else.

mmos got ruined by wow players you stupid faggot retard

I rejoined wow on a new account and got a little addicted, but remember that blizzard doesn’t know what the fuck they are doing and then found out they fucking killed saurfang..

Attached: B151493E-03E0-42E3-A0A8-517C9860F9A0.gif (388x379, 868K)

RPGs are much easier to make than MMOs, so they are usually way more polished and are not nearly as grindy.

it is that simple but it's hard and you need to keep up with it

I really wish other MMOs could strike the player/monster balance as well as wow classic did. After playing and loving it for a while, I realize that it has a ton of flaws but doing just that balance correctly for leveling and grinding was a huge factor. Unless you are playing some very specific classes, pulling 3 mobs will probably kill you with no CDs, pulling 5 will almost certainly kill you even with CDs, certain classes can hardly handle 2 mobs at once, and elites for the most part are just hard enough that on average you wont be able to solo them, which encourages grouping. Or normal mob areas that are so dense that you REALLY need a group to actually get through it. I don't get how no one else has seemingly got this balance correct, usually they just make the player a literal god and you can easily solo 20 enemies at once which is fucking boring and doesn't do anything to encourage grouping.

If i was looking for more friend groups i would join a big discord server for a multiplayer game that i play, join a voice chat, and would have a new group within 2 hours. It's really not that hard. Just don't be arrogant or an asshole, and look for people who like the same things as you.

I remember playing when that bug happened where enemies had fucked up damage and health so you would have to eat after a fight against 1 enemy and 2 was scary as fuck but still possible. It was pretty fun since my life was actually in danger for once and I could see that being nice with a party. I wish I didn't miss out on XI

It is relatively p2w to the extent that the pet system is a massive undertaking without $ but obligatory at certain levels of play. The core gameplay loop is still there, and is still pretty fun.
They're releasing a slick unity port very soon (beta starts this month) that will likely reinvigorate the game.

I liked realm so much back in 12-13 when it was fla/v/or of the month I decided to start development on a pvp-centric successor

See, that's the thing, they aren't dungeons.
They're instanced Boss-Rushes with some time-wasting worthless enemies between the bosses.

Nothing of lasting value exists in XIV, so the content is equally devoid of value.

Also, they keep making fewer of them with each xpac, despite the simplicity of the setup.

tera died the day the devs banned the 3p client that made the game function at a reasonable framerate.

Is that where everyone is? The server I tried supposedly had a fair sized pop but I barely ever saw anyone online.

>Nothing of lasting value exists in XIV, so the content is equally devoid of value.
Nothing of lasting value exists in any mmo, it's an eternal treadmill by design you idiot

All the servers besides homecoming are mildly low pop in comparison. Rebirth has probably the next most but Thunderspy is the server that actually gets updates which is why i prefer it. Like Mastermind put customization.

Attached: 1567255707182.png (1920x1080, 2.58M)

Yeah, you could actually have 100+ fps with a 1080. The base client is so poorly made; it's a bunch of scripts stitched together to make a UI.

The treadmill is a byproduct of vertical progression.

XI had horizontal progression for most of its life, as it never upped its level cap for a long while. This, and the ability to swap gear on the fly, led to a number of pieces being valuable for a long time.

Meanwhile, XIV prevents you from changing equipment, and has a dev team adamantly against giving equipment unique buffs. Leading to all gear having basically the same stats and being replaced immediately upon the release of a new set, as it will have the exact same stats, but higher numbers.

XIV is also designed around the duty finder, meaning all the classes are roughly interchangeable within their role. Meaning whichever one has the current marginally higher numbers will be in favor for that patch.

where's the barbed feline futacock?

you have to find a twitter account that posts that, it's not hard but it's mostly horse dick
