Well, the number one question is: Can you kill them? If so, then you'd need a lot of them, but then that makes them less intimidating. The thing about the movies (at least the good ones), is that there is only one and it has you at its will.

So long as there's events that make the typical plot lines of that stuff happen. Like an alien breaking free or disappearing "into the vents".
