Halo CE's campaign still holds up as one of the greatest ever. Actually amazed how good it is considering I haven't played it in 15 years and expected to go in to have my nostalgia goggles shattered, but no, it's actually better than I remember.
Oh halo 1 actually came out? I gave up on it after reach came out and they said "the others will come when they come". thank god I only paid $1 for games pass.
Kayden Parker
Quick question, is there an option for Marty's original score in MCC for the games?
Yes OP. Halo 1 is still the best one. All the campaign of the sequels, sans ODST I guess, are all a complete fucking joke. Halo 1 still stands on its own.
Come on guys, stop pretending to be retarded. You obviously meant this youtu.be/SB6y9q4hEQw
did they actually fix the shitty port that gearbox did for CE or is it still running on the same godforsaken build?
William Gutierrez
Anyone got a fix for not being able to zoom in properly or pick up new weapons? It worked fine in flighting but now it's fucked. I've noticed every single problem reported in flighting other than terminals not playing has been ignored for this rushed launch that noone asked for. I'm amazed to have lived to see someone do a worse job of rereleasing an already working game than Konami did with Silent Hill HD
Brody Johnson
What's wrong with it? Does it lag alot or something?
Jaxson Morales
It's an even worse build
Jason Martin
>more issues than reach I don't see how it can be worse than 1 and a half seconds of delay on every action...
Sebastian Cox
>most levels are the same rooms and hallways 20 times in a row >some levels are those same rooms and hallways backwards >even the vehicle sections are shoddy as all hell Genuinely don't understand CEfags when 2 is such a massive improvement.
Julian Moore
yeah unless you're the host see
Oliver Barnes
I honestly don't get why you could see it as anything but mediocre. Your guy is very slow, it's very linear and exploration isn't all that rewarding, the gunplay is kind of boring and the design seems shackled by the 2 weapon limit. The music and atmosphere are nice but the gameplay itself is just ehh.
The music and atmosphere is why you play this game, If you wanted to play a fun shooter you'd do like Doom or something, and if you wanted PvP you'd play diaboticle or GunZ the duel private server
Levi Jones
The amount of copypasted level chunks alone disqualify it for best anything.
Nicholas Rivera
I'm making up a bunch of shitposts about a Halo Dating sim and spamming them to 343i employees.
Yes, Halo 1 and 2 only had 2-player split-screen co-op.
Halo 3&ODST and Reach had 2-player split-screen co-op and XBL/system link 4-player co-op
Don't forget that the fileshare, screenshot sharing, and video clips sharing is non-existent in the MCC ports
Joshua Brooks
30 here, when it came out the Unreal Tournament/Counter Strike fags were telling me it was shit, never got into it. Playing it now I'm not all that impressed but I have played worse shooters (Killzone)
Adam Brooks
I was still a kid when it first came out so it's not like I'm too old for it.
Noah Torres
They fixed that in Halo 2 and up

Never liked halo, all my friends would play that shit I thought it was boring
The PC port of anniversary is buggy as shit but damn the core game is just so good. Seriously though, how the fuck did the plasma pistol charge bug make it in? It's literally like 3 minutes in.
Grayson Cox
I think that was mostly a problem for Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals which are basically carbon copies of one another. The Library was also repetitive.
Ethan Ramirez

Actually, it WAS full of bugs and those bugs carried over into this release
The Refined Team did their best to correct most of the issues in Halo PC but the only way to fix it is if they started from 0 and ported it from the original xbox code
Lincoln Gutierrez
I last played it in 2009 or so when even the Brazilians had stopped logging in, what sort of bugs? I can't recall anything, just the jank from user maps.
Joseph Morris
Why cant I run? Why are the graphics shit? Why am I carrying more than 2 of each grenade? Why does chief have a shitty lamp instead of nightvision? Why cant I drift the hog? Why cant it brake? Why cant it sound the horn? Why does melee'ing an enemy feel lifeless? Why does it seem Cortana and the chief have known each other for a while, when she was just received by Keys?
>remember those games you used to play 10 years ago? >how about playing them again.. but this time they're filled with actual hundreds of bugs... I LOVE DIVERSITY AND FEMALE HIRES even japan is contracting pakistanis to remaster their shit

Yes, although you can't switch between original and nu sounds ingame like you can with graphics. It's an option you have to set before you start a level.
Tyler Lopez
Too many broken effects to list. Even a fully patched version of Custom Edition with all the fan fixes still isn't fully accurate to how Halo 1 looked on the original Xbox.
Mason Diaz
There’s a few levels that are easy to get lost in. Not sure I’d call it linear at all times.
They're easy to get lost in because they copy pasted shit and recycled three levels to save time. You can still only go forwards or backwards in all but one level.
Gabriel Kelly
Gamespy shut down long ago. patch 1.0.10 uses another set of servers now
AotCR and TB are different levels. Just because they use the same location doesn't make them the same level. The experience you have when you play the two levels aren't even close to being the same. Two Betrayals has no tank, no big bad sword elites; flood, sentinels, and covenant are all fighting each other; and you get to fly in a banshee for a lot of it. They're different levels, end of story.
Saber Interactive with 343i whispering In their ear. Microsoft Corporate was breathing down their necks because they kept doing stupid shit to make the game "look artistically pleasing"

The only way to fix every problem with Halo CE on MCC is if they started from zero and ported the original xbox code
Joseph Taylor
Honestly, $10 dollerydoos is perfectly fine to play OG Halo again. I have the original btw, but the servers are nearly all modded for rockets only and stupid teleporter placements.
All i needed was the influx of people, and here it is
Dominic Anderson
How do you enable the classic graphics on pc? I tried choosing it in the video options but it didn't seem to change anything. Is there something I'm missing?
Hudson Ramirez
>Be 30 years old >Never owned a microsoft console >Still think CE is the best FPS game I really don't know why other games can't make their enemies as fun to fight as the covenant. Even destiny fucked this up.
Halo PC with Chimera and Refined is still the best way to play the original campaign in UHD/60fps besides the OG Xbox
Jordan Allen
Did you like Reach? They went back to CE's concept art and designs
Zachary Powell
This picture has lost all meaning, when it used to be posted it meant something but now seething anti-halo cucks like you just post in some vain attempt for it to mean something.
Lincoln Price

Reach is fun because no flood but the aesthetic in 1 is superior. SPV3 and Anniversary graphics are downgrades.
Asher Brooks
>SPV3
That's a CE mod made by Halo 4 fans
>Anniversary graphics are downgrades.
That was Microsoft outsourcing the Anniversary project to Russians and told them to get it done in 9 months
William Torres
Again, the servers are all but dead. The multiplayer is the only reason to buy imo, and PC Combat Evolved is all but dead. I never liked Custom Edition. Just want to play Halo again, without the shit mods and empty servers, even if it's only temporary
The campaign is expertly crafted. First you're running away from the Covenant, trying to escape. Then you're on the ring and start collecting people to help you fight back. Then you go into their turf to rescue your commanding officer. Then you go grab intel the Covenant doesn't want you to have. Then you actually get ahead of the Covenant by reaching the control room. The first five levels are just a continuous escalation of you taking the fight to the enemy and succeeding. The Covenant feels almost trivial by this point, you've already seen everything they've got. Which is what makes Guilty Spark and the Library all the more horrifying. Sadly Two Betrayals and especially Keyes don't offer up enough novelty to be memorable or interesting to play, they feel like filler. The Maw is the perfect climax though. I give Combat Evolved a 9/10
Hunter Sanders
>Why does it seem Cortana and the chief have known each other for a while, when she was just received by Keys? Because Cortana is based off of Halsey, who the Chief has known for like 85% of his life

What do you think of the 2nd half of the campaign (343 GS - The Maw)?
Luke Harris
Don't forget weapon variety. There's only three Covenant weapons and 2 more than doubled that
Angel Evans
Now do Halo 2's kino campaign
>Cairo Station >New Mombasa: Outskirts and Metropolis >Gas Giant: The Arbiter and The Oracle >Delta Halo: DH and Regret >The Library: Sacred Icon and Quarantine Zone >High Charity >Delta Halo's Control Room
>Lots of folks are asking us in direct terms, “why make maps for Halo 2, when Halo 3 is just around the corner?” Well, because we love Halo 2 and we love our fans. They’ve continued to play Halo 2 solidly for three years, in vast numbers, and we owe them it. Not enough to give it away for free, but Max has to buy snacks for his team, after all. Pulling the plug on Halo 2 (metaphorically, it won’t simply vanish when H3 arrives) without giving the fans Hang ‘Em High would have been, well, rude.
Did Halo 2 have the most soul?
Bungie continued to support it until Halo 3's release date
Camden Gutierrez
>fire a few quick shots with plasma pistol and audio for charge shot starts playing >melee inputs get eaten all the time >multiplayer netcode is shit and fucking pistol starts are just as bad if not worse than DMR starts
these things aside, still enjoying myself. if you aren't playing with classic graphics and music then you need to GTFO
>Which is what makes Guilty Spark and the Library all the more horrifying >The Maw is the perfect climax though It's safe to say I love them. With the exception of Two Betrayals and Keyes. Not to say those two levels are bad, they're just not as exciting or fresh. I think Halo 2's campaign didn't have the same kinds of highs and lows as Combat Evolved did. Defending the station and then hitting the ground feels like a repeat of how CE started, but this time there's a difference in how you land. Instead of running around in a strange environment, looking for survivors, you're on your home turf now. The invaders are at a disadvantage, and as such the feel is a lot lighter, despite the implications of aliens fucking up Earth all around you. You use a lot of vehicles, take out a lot of them and cover a lot of ground early on, always feeling powerful, as you well should after surviving CE. The Scarab was a bit of a waste. I was actually hoping for a real bossfight type of firefight here, not just jumping aboard it and killing a few easy enemies, and this is the feeling that capsulates the early part of the campaign in general. The first bits of playing Halo 2 as Chief feels lightweight. Trivial. To be continued.
Andrew Ramirez
>It's safe to say I love them. With the exception of Two Betrayals and Keyes. Not to say those two levels are bad, they're just not as exciting or fresh.
What about the battles between The Flood, The Covenant, and The Sentinels with the cyborg?
>two betrayals is literally assault on the control room backwards >keys is just reused content from truth and reconciliation >half of the maw is just a reskin of the first level
i'd forgotten how padded this shit was. i still love two betrayals though
Ayden Gomez
>>fire a few quick shots with plasma pistol and audio for charge shot starts playing And it's 5 times louder than actually charging the pistol

Most of the level design is padded. Identical rows of hallways and rooms

When you start to play as the Arbiter, you're initially feeling very excited. Getting to see things from the Covenant's perspective was fascinating. You get an energy sword and an invisibility cloak? Amazing! The game immediately drops the ball by having you fight more Covenant though. The ruined ring is a boring environment visually, the bossfight against the heretic leader lacks any punch. Getting to use sentinel lasers against the Flood was a great idea though. Not a big fan of this part, feels like a drag. Chief returning to the surface of a ringworld and everything from his landing all the way to him finishing off the Prophet of Regret is kino. Both you and the Covenant are feeling lost, they didn't expect to be here, you didn't expect to be here, so you just revert to what you know: start killing each other and see what happens. The levels here are visually pleasant and you get to move around diversely, on foot, with a tank, on those platforms, underwater, in caves, it's all cool. This, the following Arbiter levels, Chief's invasion of High Charity and the whole climax of the game are the best part of Halo 2's campaign. But I'm feeling too lazy to write extensively about this. So instead I leave you with this >HEY BASTARDS >KNOCK KNOCK
Anthony Stewart
Stop you're just making me cry
Julian Jackson
the outdoor levels have decent layouts. silent cartographer especially was a standout. but yeah, library, guilty spark, and pillar of autumn are fucking terribley samey. especially pillar of autumn, you'd think they'd put more effort into the introduction level
Caleb Garcia
They made Silent Cartographer first, or at least earlier on, so of course it has more work put into it while Pillar was absolutely rushed
Jaxson Morgan
Halo CE's campaign is underwhelming as fuck. It constantly rehashes the same prefab environments in levels like Assault on the Control Room that you almost have to stop and wonder if you're going in circles, even though it's completely linear.
Nolan Brooks
Is CE's multiplayer games fucked for anyone else? I can't even pick up weapons and the pistol scope is fucked.

One of the most kino parts in Halo 1 that a lot of people don't give credit for is when you escape the flood infested facility. Because your signal was lost they assumed you were in trouble, and since you're their only hope they send in fucking EVERYBODY to go rescue you. Once you get to the top of the elevator there's so many fucking pilots, marines, and non-fighter staff not even wearing armor because that's all they have left. There has not been that many ally AI in any Halo game ever. It's kino because it showed that they sacrificed everything to make sure you were okay.
This track encapsulates everything I love about CE's campaign even though Silent Cartographer is objectively, always and forever, the entire series' best level.
Im playing multiplayer and holy fug the aim assist with a controller is so fuckin busted I tried playing with a controller on PC Reach and I still did fucking awful but playing on CE with a controller is really good, I keep getting consistent head shots with the magnum
Just because you can't build-battle doesn't mean it's boring.
Connor Thompson
There's a bit of an easter egg in that level, in one of the dead end rooms theres a large crate where human and jackel corpses are, they had a last stand together in that room. Pretty neat
I was mostly confused. I thought it undermined the first game's ending.
Jeremiah Reyes
Hardy Lebel wanted it in there, he had to learn 3ds Max for the multiplayer portion of the game, and having never modelled in the program before, had to very carefully and explicitly lay out levels that would be both feasible for his level of technical skill, and enjoyable for players within the CE sandbox, which he explains was something akin to a "party game with guns"
Max Hoberman was responsible for H2 and H3's multiplayer, UI, remaking maps for the new sandbox, and Xbox Live features (stat tracking, playlists, gametypes, clans, etc), and integrating H3 into the Xbox 360 dashboard
Sage Merrill was responsible for Reach's multiplayer direction and sandbox (he left to join Bethesda lol)
343 hired Max Hoberman/Certain Affinity to create the Reach DLC maps, Halo 4 DLC maps, and gave him full control over H2A's multiplayer
Tom French was responsible for Halo 5's MP and will be responsible for INFINITE
Elijah Stewart
>I thought it undermined the first game's ending.

In CEA? Press tab. it's not much better because it's still gearbox grafeex
Eli Davis
>it's not much better because it's still gearbox grafeex
It's much better besides the broken shaders
Lucas Anderson
What was the point of blowing up Halo if the flood survive on the heretic's station any way? I thought the ending of CE made it pretty clear that blowing it up killed everything on the ring. It wouldn't bother me if there were some uncertainty but Cortana definitely says Chief is the only one who survived. I guess that was already kinda retconned with Arbiter, idk. Then later you find Delta Halo had a goddamn gravemind living on it. What's the point if the flood were already loose and ready to wreck shit? Only played the first two games so far so I don't know if there's some lore I'm missing.
James Green
>What was the point of blowing up Halo if the flood survive on the heretic's station any way? So the ring couldn't be activated. That was the real reason. Killing all the Flood and Covenant on it was just a bonus.
I did really enjoy how the campaign gives you a different flavour across many different levels. Claustrophobic battles inside spaceships, riding around vast spaces on the warthog, investigating inside underground facilities, tense stealthy sections, many environments ranging from icy to swamp to jungle, high adrenaline action sections and heart pounding "horror" sections, even flying vehicle dogfights and a high speed race to the finish. This shooter delivers so many different flavours of gameplay

Fucking get good bro. It's so easy. It's literally just DOOM.
Colton Martin
I psyched myself up for that gauntlet and not a single flood spawned, it was fucked. I breezed the level but it was the eeriest and mose nerve wracking shit because I kept waiting for them, always expecting one around the corner, behind me, fucking SOMEWHERE. it was a genuine relief after the reactors were blown and spawns reset to see them where they were supposed to be
Landon Smith
I forgot The brilliance of this copy paste filler level My bad
No thank you, I'm not a consolefag anymore, I used to be, but it's been so long playing on PC that controller just feels awful to me now. I recently replayed my copy of Halo 3 after dusting off my 360 for a few levels when Reach came out on PC cause I wanted to do it for old time's sake, but the whole time I was thinking "this is great but man I would rather be playing this with mouse and keyboard."
Actually that made Doom look like it was for fucking casuals, and I say that as someone who still regularly plays and loves doom. In any case, I beat the campaign so I got past it.
Heroic is way too easy and legendary is a slog unless you noob combo and even then it takes too long

It's okay. Vehicles actually control like hot garbage with mouse aim and it freshly occurs to me halfway through the game exactly how much the game re-uses environments. I swear, you walk through exactly the same room no less than like 4 times in assault on the control room, and then you have to do it again when you revisit the level later. Then you have to attack truth and reconciliation again but-now-there's-flood to kill keyes, and then to cap it all off, the last mission of the game takes you back to the pillar of autumn.
Angel Gutierrez
>Can't hear any dialogue during the cutscenes in the Anniversary version on PC.
>I swear, you walk through exactly the same room no less than like 4 times in assault on the control room, I unironically like this about Halo CE. You got samey rooms with different enemy layouts. It's like doom in a sense. It's mindless and at the same time you have to change up your tactics ect with each enemy layout. Later halo games have excellent enemy encounters, but often it feels like there are too few of them before the "theme" of the level changes completely.
Connor Harris
rushing with the AR and then punting the enemy from a mile away is fun every time and you cant convince me to stop

Can someone tell me if they noticed there's invisible walls in certain parts of geometry in the second level? I could swear I used to use the walls and cliffs to slide around the map after jumping to move faster but when I tried it on the remake I just bumped invisible walls.

When will they add matchmaking for co-op on every Halo game in the MCC?
There's no reason for them to have dedicated servers only for a 2-player co-op game mode. 4 players fine but not 2.

I'd like to play H5 campaign but only in co-op. I never could on Xbox because there's no matchmaking.

Gearbox made the original pc port and it has some slight graphical bugs with textures, models and lighting
The "bugged" pc port was used for halo anniversary classic mode.
It's pretty well known at this point. Probably will get patched out some time in the future.
Basically autism.
Ian Jackson
>people still asking if they fixed coop lag Niggers, the lag will never get fixed. It's a fundamental part of the code. Blame Bungie. They could never get the game to sync between clients/hosts so they cheated and had it so the client is sending inputs to the host. What you're really doing is playing playing local coop with a 100+ mile Ethernet cable.

One every quarter is about as much as they can string out their debugging time and still be on track for their promise of Reach - 4 playable in 2020. So 2 around June, 3 around September, 4 in December, and ODST, Forge, and Theater sometime in 2021 since they said those would come after 4.
Chase Green
LAN multiplayer should be fine, it's the campaign coop with the problem
Ian Reyes
No the entire collection is just shitty fucking ports. It's amazing it doesn't have worse reviews. Only halo fanboys would let a 2020 fps release with 60fps, broken mouse input and non-working coop slide. Absolute tragic state of halo.
I still feel bad. I’d have 0 ping while everyone else ran at 20-30, and those slight jitters they faced made all the difference.
Bentley Young
Were the achievements engineer related and did you play much Reach? This goes for as well Willing to bet it's just that the ODST achievements were originally tracked as basic "kill x" cross game achievements and only specifically said ODST because it used to be the only game with engineers. Not sure why it would only be unlocking that way as of this update though. I got the "kill 10" achievement today as well.
Landon Walker
Yeah, both engineer achievements.
Aaron Wilson
Never understood why people shit the bed with library. It runs maybe 5 minutes longer than it should.
Jack Collins
I enjoy Library
Sebastian King
>Willing to bet it's just that the ODST achievements were originally tracked as basic "kill x" cross game achievements and only specifically said ODST because it used to be the only game with engineers. Actually after looking at the in game achievement list this is more or less exactly it. They updated it so these are now tracked as cross game achievements ingame but the achievement description still refers to ODST.
I'd call you a zoomer faggot but you can't be if you know those maps by name You must be one of the cursed boomers

How is the multiplayer with the pistol? As bad as the dmr is?
Christopher Perry
its amazing forge isn't in yet. It's fully working already and the only thing it lacks is mouse and keyboard controls. Unless they plan to revamp the entire system to make it more suitable for PC which they fucking won't do. It's been like this since day 1, their response was to shrug their shoulders and proceed not to fix it.
Let me ask you this. If they can't get the fundamentals right originally with graphics, sound, etc in singleplayer. Why would they get shit right in MP?
I had a good balance between linearity and exploration. Levels are logically laid out and there is good environmental variety. Halo is slow compared to Doom but I'd say in Halo CE you move at about 90% the speed of quake guy. The 2 weapon limit I am torn on. On one hand your play style varies greatly depending on the weapon pair you have and it makes each encounter feel different if you have different weapons you're forced to use. It also forces you to use weapons you're uncomfortable with if you run out of ammo and have to pick up whatever is near you. But, certain encounters are designed around certain weapons like a sniper rifle or rocket launcher and so they just happen to have one lying around for you. It's immersion breaking.
Colton Hall
It looks good but isn't as moody as the original
Benjamin Johnson
I recently replayed Halo 1 on my Xbox One X and it's just empty corridor after empty corridor. The gameplay is fun, the locations are boring, bland, and absolutely do not hold up.
Ayden Perez
>Unless they plan to revamp the entire system to make it more suitable for PC which they fucking won't do. I keep hearing that this is exactly why they haven't implemented Forge yet and why their official alternative is to upload from Xbox or use Forge in the modder client. I don't see why they wouldn't just implement normal Forge in the meantime but I'm pretty sure they've posted progress pics of the updated version. To me the bigger question is why theater isn't in.
Jace Kelly
Fuck off /hg/, there hasn't been a halo game that wasn't dominated by precision start weapons. Only easily upset fags who didn't leave social on H3/HR ever bring this shit up. I'm convinced the only Halo you guys played was on splitscreen online at your friends house, because you'd know the Magnum is oppressive.
Two Betrayals is the second worst mission in the Halo series just ahead of the Library.
John Parker
The massive battles between the Flood and Covenant make it pretty fun though.
Carson Allen
>Only easily upset fags who didn't leave social on H3/HR Found the SWAT/MLG tryhard. Social was where all the most fun playlists were. If you just want to load in with the best weapon and just click on heads all day in every map and gamemode you could just play CounterStrike.
Andrew Price
Someone on the Steam forum said updating their video card drivers fixed these issues. Don't ask me how the fuck that's supposed to work.
>Halo is slow compared to Doom but I'd say in Halo CE you move at about 90% the speed of quake guy. What? youtu.be/8UjWQiYs3Vk Halo has always been CS speed & gunplay in an afps enviroment & ruleset
I am pretty sure there's less aim assist without controller. I remember being able to throw casual headshots at elites with little effort. With mouse, it requires a lot more effort.
That image is so fucking cute. Elites were the original thing that got me into xenos. Thanks, Bungie!
Hunter Hughes
Retard. The magnum has a much shorter range cap and isn't nearly as powerful against vehicles.
No. 3sk isn't that easy to get even with mouse aim and you need to be much closer. Still somewhat oppressive however since everyone knows it's so good now.
lol yeah, I don’t get that user either. What he described sounds like another Tuesday at Custom Edition.
Joseph Martinez
Yeah that's true. I take it back, it's kino once you're out of the copypasta rooms
Nathan Murphy
I miss being younger and thinking that was actually distant land instead of a bitmap
Caleb Jones
Halo 2 is a bit of a weird deal for me. It has some of the best and worst moments in the series, obviously barring the 343 games. Halo 3 was good, but something about it just didn't click with me the way 2 did.
Eli Lee
halo 2 was pure kino
Alexander Ross
>Forge and Theater coming after Halo 4 When did they say this? I haven't seen anything.
David Wilson
I hope Halo 3 does me good, because I wasn’t impressed with 2 at all.
Wyatt Cook
Honestly, what is the appeal of Halo? As someone who likes interesting map design, a varied range of enemies, a large arsenal of interesting weapons and super-fast and responsive controls / gameplay, Halo to me felt slow / stiff, the guns weren't terribly interesting to me (the human weapons were standard future-soldier-man fare, and the alien stuff was just shiny-lasers-with-cooldown), the maps and environments, while impressively large, were really bland / same-y / rarely impacted the way I played the game. In the first halo, there's all of about 4-ish enemy types with a few slight variations in the covenant, and even less variation in the flood. also, the shield / regenerating health mechanic is something I will never be fond of, it engenders passivity and overly safe / unengaging play. The 2-weapon limit puts a huge damper on gameplay variety.
I think Halo was a generation of gamer's introduction to the FPS genre. Like how kids will think their favorite band is the greatest, without listening to the somewhat dated albums of their parents.
>IF IT GOES FAST IT IS AUTOMATICALLY BETEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!! I NEED MY DOPAMINEEEEEEEEEE!!! FUCK HALO SPEEEEEED AAAAAAAH ok zoomer.
Evan Ross
What's dishonest about it? Because you said so? Here's another video that conforms to your arbitrariness and still proves what you said is stupid: youtu.be/Bv7KHdcZRa4 You're just talking out your ass to seem smart, rather than admit you're incorrect, you'll move goalposts.
Jacob Parker
The thing is, Halo isn't just slow compared to arena FPS; it's slow compared to other console shooters. Everything from the movement speeds, to the physics, to the ultra-heavy crosshair magnetism, is all a relic of a by-gone era where no one knew how to make FPS control smoothly on gamepads. By the 360 era, things improved enough to support the much faster gameplay of later COD games, BF series, UT3, even some Quake 4 console tournaments in France, etc.
So yeah, you can call Halo whatever you want, whether it's "tactical arena FPS" (like many Halo Fans like to describe it) or whatever, but it's really its own thing which bears limited appeal either to PC arena FPS players or even people used to the later console military shooters.
>Honestly, what is the appeal of Halo? None. I just play them because is the closer thing to a Metroid Prime game Halo 4 is my favorite just for that
Lincoln Rogers
it's nice to be able to play the old game but there's so many retarded creative decisions that just makes the game worse in remastered mode and you can't permanently opt into the old sound effects and music
that isn't even mentioning all the shitty bugs related to sound, like the plasma pistol charging coming out of nowhere and queued up weapon switching sounds
gaming is a pathetic joke, that plasma pistol bug has existed since launch and they still haven't fixed it, absolutely fucking pathetic how things have regressed, got my refund
Carson Phillips
Halo was a legitimately engaging space opera, yeah it was mechanically inferior to whatever Quake shit at the time but its single player and presentation blew everything else out of the water.
Easton Morgan
yes but and you have to manally move audio from remastered to classic each time you play the game, this is also only possible from the mission select so don't even try playing from your last check point through continue because it just fucking resets it
for a franchise that used to be the powerhouse of the microsoft gaming lineup they've done it absolutely no fucking justice this is just straight up defilement
Caleb Jones
It was basically Half Life for consoles at the time.
Ryder Flores
That's nice. Honestly so bored of seeing this discussion in every Halo thread ever.
Mason Cruz
Half Life 2 doesn't even approach Halo's presentation.
Adrian Murphy
>there's all of about 4-ish enemy types with a few slight variations in the covenant, and even less variation in the flood. this is literally just complete nonsense, halo offers more meaingful enemy variety than fucking quake did
Eli Flores
>a varied range of enemies, a large arsenal of interesting weapons Halo has these, at least.
Halo has good lore and presentation but the story and characters sucked.
Brody Young
>Half Life 2 doesn't even approach Halo's presentation. The presentation of a Saturday morning cartoon? Halo's storytelling is laughably juvenile.
Leo Turner
Doom 1 > Doom 2 > Halo CE > FEAR > Halo 2 > AvP99 > *mediocrity threshold* Halo 3 > Quake > Halo Reach > Half-Life > *shit game threshold* > Serious Sam > Unreal
Dominic Williams
The series as a whole is unironically Baby's First FPS. I'd argue 3 and Reach were the worst offenders, considering how rabid those particular subgroups are. 2 was my first experience with an FPS, and 3 was the first one I played regularly, and funnily enough, I can't stand 3 anymore. But I can't deny that there was an amount of pure soul in getting home from school on a Friday and partying up with your friends for custom games, or better yet, having a huge system link party and screwing around with custom settings while blasting 2000s rock without a care in the world.
Carson Robinson
very controversial well done
Logan Brown
They didn't, though? The characters were all very memorable, especially the Arbiter, Truth, Gravemind and Johnson. I can't think of any bad characters in Halo.
Jaxson Cooper
count em dummy, there's only 4 enemy types in halo 1
I don't recall Half Life having a story since you ran around as a usual FPS mute shooting things in rundown, abandoned environments.
Jaxon Russell
yes and now look at doom or quake, the halo enemy designs are way further apart and complementary to one another than anything in either of those jezus christ
not even saying quake and doom aren't better shooters but you're a flaming fucking retard if you think some marsian hell demons and soldiers are more interesting than a coalition of space faring religious zealots on a jihad to end the universe through ignorance
Jack Adams
>map design if you don't like brutalist stuff then you're not ever going to like halo >a varied range of enemies Fair criticism >a large arsenal of interesting weapons the weapons were ok and were more interesting as a whole with the shield stuff than indivudually >responsive controls / gameplay, Halo to me felt slow / stiff Common complaint but you do get used to the start up/accel time, it's not too bad. >I think Halo was a generation of gamer's introduction to the FPS genre. Like how kids will think their favorite band is the greatest, without listening to the somewhat dated albums of their parents. That's just a retarded boomer take Maybe you just don't like Halo man and that's cool. It does have a retarded playerbase because of it's console heritage though.
I didn't say shit about x being better than y faggot but nice shitpost.
Carter Harris
Arbiter is the only one of these to have an actual character, and even then many important moments for his arc are brushed over. Everyone else is flat as a board. People talk shit about Mass Effect's Sovereign for doing little more than making boasts but Gravemind can't even do that as well.
Gavin Lopez
I think the wavy bits on the drop ships were fixed? Jackal shields are still static though.
Anthony Lee
I wish more Halo fans had this level of self-awareness and capacity for critical thought.
Top >average lad with arms like twigs, pressed into service in a total war by an army desperate for anybody who can hold and point a gun >barebones, worn down armor pieces and spartan equipment suggest a scarcity of resources in a battle that a primitive humanity is losing, in contrast to the shiny and colorful space armor of the Master Chief and the Covenant
Bottom >chonky cigar chomping spehs muhreeen who could bench press a dump truck >fully kitted out in two hundred pounds of modern-looking equipment courtesy of the bottomless HFY arsenal
There are plenty of rational discussions in these threads, but you seem to only see it as "self-awareness and capacity for critical thought" when it's a Halo fan agreeing with your stance on the series.
Zachary Adams
You're really misrepresenting the enemy design in Doom and Quake.
Does Halo even have anything as remotely as unique as the Arch-Vile, an enemy capable of necromancy and raising the corpses of enemies you defeated, completely re-contextualizing the entire battlefield?
>playing CE multiplayer >game feels weirdly quiet >put on the MANDY OST >it somehow fits perfectly with the game youtu.be/PKZEBhRX-TU
Andrew Phillips
ok zoomer
Connor Sullivan
I just played all the halos on legendary and halo 1 was the hardest and most infuriating mainly because of the broken checkpoints. The levels are quite boring as well I had more fun with halo 2 and 3. It was still great for its time
Matthew James
>Stuck on 100% of 6.5GB for 15 minutes I can't select anything on the screen and I'm scared to quit out because this is the second time I've had to install CE.
am i just retarded but moving mouse doesnt feel good, i tried different sensitivities and shit but it just feels off somehow. am i just imagining?
Jackson Ward
Whats the appeal of doom? ask any zoomer and hes going to be thinking youre talking about doom 2016. The arch vile is just a hitscanner anyway plus the flood can reanimate the dead.
Zachary Gray
i guess you're right to an extent, i always thought quake was cooler than doom because of the lovecraft stuff lmao no wtf
Brandon Kelly
>"We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people," Jones told us. "We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game -- almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time. We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo 'cause nobody wants to." Sounds like it's working as intended.
Reminder the bottom is the army soldiers model ripped from Halo Reach and not the Marine model from Halo Reach since in Reach you're with the army the whole game
Andrew Price
The entire game looks shit in anniversary mode since it's some cobbled together mess of Halo 3 and Reach assets
William Parker
Did Halo CE Anniversary not remaster the multiplayer maps? Only the campaign?
Evan Price
Personally I think one might as well play in Anniversary mode since Classic mode is Gearbox's fucked up visuals instead of the actual classic visuals anyway.
Robert Carter
Only singleplayer, the only option in multiplayer is to switch between old and new sound effects.
Aaron Harris
weren't the marines supposed to wear big clunky sheets of metal because they are the only real defense against plasma fire
Charles Martinez
>bunny hopping You're still being dishonest. I am not moving the goal posts. I am talking about the character base run speed, not the player movement speed ceiling from abusing glitches.
Here's some real data. Halo is slower but not preposterously so.
In 2 and onward the flood will get dead bodies and reanimate them but they didn't get it working in CE
Thomas Richardson
Even the "og" graphics are trash they did a lazy job. The original halo ce looks better then thr og on xbox one
Jason Butler
I'd rather have gearbox's fucked visuals then some cheap Russian visuals
Kayden Jones
And I'm guessing the MCC doesn't include the new sound effects? I'd run the old ones anyways
Kevin Rivera
Thry remastered a few of them but you had to play it on the reach engine
Kayden Sanders
Can you Switch audio in the campaign?
Benjamin Foster
Yeah because it's based off the Gearbox port since that's the version that had online multiplayer. In Gearbox's porting job they fucked over the game's effects, and 343 doesn't seem to care to fix it
Juan Nelson
According to lore only energy shields protect against plasma. The Titanium plates were what they used to defend against ballistics fire from the Insurrectionist wars against the colonies.
Wyatt Cooper
Damn, classic marines couldn't even afford gloves.
Mason Carter
Yeah
Austin King
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I don’t know, really. Doom and CS were my first few shooters, yet neither could reel me in like Halo did. Note that I’m referring to Custom Edition here; never owned any Xboxes in my life.
Guess the party factor just made it better overall; you’d get people more concerned with trashtalk than actually capturing the flag, good times. The odd text chatter pops up in Reach every few games or so, but most seem too keen on just flat-out leaving chat. Don’t know what’s up with that.
Wyatt Adams
Ywn experience the Warthog run for the first time ever again.
Luis Morgan
You can thank Gearbox for that.
William Hughes
I never beat 1, 2, or 3 so I will
Jose Long
In Halo 2 (the only game with remastered audio) you are stuck with the audio from whatever graphics set you're using.
OG graphics = OG sound New graphics = New sound.
Nathaniel Rogers
>in real life >skewing this by considering the characters height This chart is laughable and so unfactual, you do not move faster in halo than even L4d survivors.
Cooper Carter
>You can thank Gearbox for that. Nobody forced microsoft to approve such a shoddy port job. I'd sooner assign the blame to them, especially considering how much they treated pc as an afterthought
Michael Thompson
>It starts re-installing from 0 again Fucking CHRIST
If you play the remastered version it issues completely different shaders but if you play classic the problems are there
Dominic Phillips
>halo has faster movement speed than half-life >halo has twice thee movement sped of half-life 2 lolno. what a load of nonsense.
Jack Stewart
The co-op story campaign. No other FPS did it as well as Halo did in all these decades of gaming.
Angel Reyes
it's broken. They won't fix it. Capping the fps at 60 helps it feel a bit better.
Eli Ward
Reminder to turn off any form of RGB software keyboard lag is tied to it, especially if you have a razor keyboard
Nicholas Cook
Its hard to find worthy criticism since half of it is unfounded insults and "babys first fps" shit without having played the game. Not to mention there are a lot of bandwagoners that are pretending to not be zoomers themselves.
halo has a low as fuck fov compared to PC shooters so movement would feel slower than it is. i doubt halo is that fast compared to half-life 1 though lol
What issues are you having? If you add people to your Xbox live friends list through Xbox console companion they show up in your friends list in game to invite even if you're playing on different platforms
Gavin Butler
The elite doesnt grab Johnson's ass, not canon.
Logan Richardson
You can share screenshots and clips with Xbox game bar through Xbox console companion
Connor Flores
I want to know more about the Lekgolo. We should have a Hunter companion in Infinite.
Shit game until they add a server browser. Constant uneven matches because people aren't going to stick around for maps and modes they are forced to play.
Eli Morgan
Why is the oldschool player idea of good fps that you must have really fast movement, 10 weapons at once and be a bunnyhopping sperg? Why cant games do something else without being considered shit?
Sebastian Jones
Tell that to the folks at CS:GO.
Justin Smith
Because Doom was MY first FPS so it's the best one.
Connor Hall
Now you know why they’re called Boomers despite not being born in 50s.
Lincoln Gray
I've had matches where half the team leaves before the game even starts wtf?
Nathaniel Gutierrez
damn i thought i was going paranoid or something
Brandon Price
It was their first FPS so it's special to them, but they're autistic so they can't comprehend that a shooter that others grew up with could be special to that person instead.
I'm not kidding, inability to recognise that other people have differing preferences to yourself is a major red flag in autism testing.
Aaron Jones
Does campaign have matchmaking ?
Liam Thompson
I quit playing Reach in a week because of it. The first matches I played in CE same shit happened. That's what's killing the game.
Andrew Hill
Because thats what they are nostalgic for, in 10 years people will say only games with crafting and weapon customization are good.
Robert James
>Had falling out with a friend >Last thing he hadn't blocked me on was xbox >Get on >See him >Get ready too invite too a btb >He already blocked me
Caleb Campbell
This right here. Half Life 2 and Quake have such wide FOVs compared to Halo. Halo sits at around 75-ish if I remember correctly. But in Halo Reach for pc you can make the fov higher, and the movement looks more like Half-Life when you set it to 90 or 100 or 120. FOV really makes a difference in how fast a game 'feels.'
Nolan Williams
Especially considering their reaching their forties-fifties and are still so avid about video games while not working on video games themselves, theyre no different from Chris Chan.
Wyatt Gutierrez
no
Landon Carter
the faster a game moves the more difficult everything becomes, that's about it
Isaac Powell
You are literally coping. Halo CE is just as fast as Half-Life. Deal with it.
Jason Collins
Is anyone else getting the achievements out of order? Every time I finish a level I get the achievement for completing the one after it.
John Rivera
The sad part is many aren't even that old. I was an avid Unreal player as a kid (it came out when I was 7, Dad didn't give a shit if I played his PC games). I'm not even in my 30s yet.
Blake Turner
I discovered I can avoid getting fucked by grenade throwing grunts while in a scorpion by catching the grenade with the end of the barrel and aiming upwards so the blast radius doesn't reach the cockpit
Brayden Miller
Only the second level gave me the right one. From Pillar I got Truth, Truth > Cartographer and Cartographer > Pillar.
Lincoln Rivera
bro just look at some sven coop videos and check out how fast the players run compared to halo 1 multiplayer
legendary amounts of cope holy shit >boomer are in their 40s-50s ayy lmao
Bentley Cooper
But don't forget that the faster the game, the bigger the hit boxes so it makes it easier to aim. Quake is playable because you don't have to have pinpoint accuracy to hit things.
Aaron Sanders
Cause fast movement and more options allows for more variety. Faster movement alone opens up your options in so many situations. In turn that means a higher skill ceiling and allows for more varied map design.
>But don't forget that the faster the game, the bigger the hit boxes so it makes it easier to aim. Quake is playable because you don't have to have pinpoint accuracy to hit things. Huh? It's Halo that has aim assist and bullet magnetism out the ass.
Julian Watson
>something else and what is that something? walk five feet stand still and shoot because mobility used to be one of the greatest things about first person shooters and that's also the reason the only good first person shooter in the last decade was titanfall 2
Aiden Diaz
Overwatch actually has smaller hitboxes than Quake. I have an easier time aiming in Quake than Overwatch. Try playing a game like Prefect Dark on N64 with pinpoint accurate guns and hitboxes and then try to play something as forgiving as Quake. You don't even need auto-aim in Quake to hit stuff because the projectile collision boxes and enemy hitboxes are massive. I know. It's like DOOM. You can hit things jsut by aiming in their general direction and having a mouse makes it even easier even though it's faster.
It was the shit everyone was playing on xbox for all of the 2000s and everyone likes to pretend they weren't for some reason
Lucas Kelly
>talking about the h1 campaign to a friend >keep calling the missions a10, a30, b40, ect fuck its like when i keep calling the fuel rod gun in halo 2 onwards the 'flak cannon'. i've been a halo modderfag for 15 years and i just call everything by their internal names.
Easton Reed
even accounting for those hitboxes it still has a much much higher skill ceiling than halo lmao dont even try
>this level of dishonesty retard, those skinny multiplayer models have the same hitboxes as fat multiplayer models. that's not a hitbox issue, that's deliberte balancing to s not punish people
Anthony Sanchez
>Halo modder for 15 years God bless your soul.
John Carter
I was explaining that just because the game has faster movement doesn't necessarily make it harder. You have to consider the input method (mouse/keyboard) which is easier to aim with than a pad. With Halo, they had to add the auto-aim stuff because otherwise no one would hit anything. But that game is built around that, so everyone playing also has the same advantage which means you need to find other ways to defeat your opponents.
Quake doesn't have auto-aim because it doesn't need it. It's easier to aim manually in Quake and hit stuff than it is to aim manually in Halo (Sniper Rifles and any other mid-range weapon that's not close enough to the enemy for the auto-assists to kick in). Yeah, you have to lead your projectile shots more due to the horizontal and vertical movespeed everyone has bunnyhopping around, but you also have a lot of large projectile-firing weapons and splash damage built in for newer players to take advantage of. And that's not even counting the larger hitboxes for the players. It just feels better to control in Quake than it does in Halo. Halo is less comfortable and snappy than Quake which makes it harder in that sense. I will take Quake's large hitboxes but snappier gameplay and faster movement speed than Halo any day. Halo sucks to play after playing Quake because it's harder to do what you want. Yeah the auto-aim/magnetism/whatever is there to help, but you know it's there and it feels like you're being patronized. Mouse/keyboard is always better and easier than fumbling with handicapped pad controls.
Elijah Edwards
>Yeah the auto-aim/magnetism/whatever is there to help, but you know it's there and it feels like you're being patronized. Controllerfags take heed.
Jose Bennett
But those hitboxes aren't oversized. They're a perfect fit for the character model in the middle, which is by far the biggest character model.
Yeah, no shit, they're not going to make the hitboxes smaller for the smaller character models, because that would just mean everyone would pick the smaller model.
Parker Cook
and? who said there was an issue
Nathan Cooper
Are you blind? the post I replied to said:
>and Quake has xbox hueg hitboxes
implying that Quake has a lower skill ceiling than Halo because it has bigger hitboxes. even though that's false
Joshua Stewart
I agree. Still doesn't mean the hitboxes are not massive.
