In Zero 1 I think you could make a case that some of them knew, with the exception of Phantom, who's way too devoted to a fake.

Supposedly it's a retroactive art style change. The way you see Zero now is meant to be exactly as he is perceived by everyone else in Mega Man X (even though there's some discrepancies like how he has a handgun instead of a buster). This is why Omega, despite being Zero's "original body", still looks like Zero-series Zero.

Personally I prefer the idea that it was a conscious in-universe decision for Reploids to slowly take on more human appearances, as it leads into the blurring of lines that happens in ZX, but it really is just a matter of appearance to the audience.

They also say stuff that it takes longer to revive Master X, and Elpizo notes he’d be resurrected eventually, so they may have seen it as more like Ciel pulled it off first.
In hindsight, taking years for that and only Weil being able to revive him may be a nod to how X and Zero were too complex to even be properly analyzed in X6. Maybe they always wanted to revive heroes like X, Zero and even Phantom, but unlike the other bosses it was way out of their league.

I agree. Omega was cool as a concept but I always felt that the buildup to the reveal and the reveal itself were underbaked and almost awkward. 4 definitely could have been better but the final confrontation as Ragnarok falls is the final top "SHIN" ultimate kino of the series in my humble opinion and a great note to end on.

There are some other inconsistencies, like the X artstyle being used for Magnion's attack, or Zero's sword being holstered on his thigh instead of his back.
Personally I prefer your idea, where it's just an evolution in technology and the two artstyles co-exist.

you see the thing about the mega man series is that it has always been filled with incremental crutches that allow you to scale the difficulty up and down as you please. Zero has this in the form of Elves, techniques, elements, sub tanks and special boss attacks that only come out if you are doing well enough to handle an extra level of challenge. Every or nearly every game in the series is designed so that you can beat the game without any of its crutches without getting hit but the crutches are there to allow you to enjoy the game without breaking its flow if you don't have as much skill. I'm not much of a fan of the casual and save assist as it completely changes the flow in order to make things easier which changes the overall experience.

Still I'm glad we have more people playing the games and I welcome more mega man threads so I hope some of you at least try the game without the casual features at some point.

The gameplay is an obvious one so I'll go and say the aesthetic. Love the environments and color palettes. Everything has such a weird "ancient" feel to it, and I love the idea of the Pantheons. The designs are slim and look great in motion, also suiting the increasing advancement of Reploids.

What I love about Advent is how they added "blasted" sprites, so killing enemies (or bosses, at least) with a charge shot shows you actually blow a hole through them.

Given how Megaman's current producer has stated that the reason why Megaman fell by the wayside for so long is because nobody wanted to fill Inafune's shoes and had their own careers to worry about, it makes you wonder exactly how fuming the internal state was at the time. I don't think anybody would really have the clout or bravery to step up to the plate and possibly destroy their own career to save a game that Capcom's management never wanted and only got partially developed under extremely sketchy circumstances.

It makes stories where a new guy decides to take the series under its wing and revitalise after the original producer/creator jumps ship very interesting. The Mana series is in a similar state to Megaman right now where it's finally making a comeback after its producer has been slowly building up momentum since the first mobile phone remake of Final Fantasy Adventure. The main difference being that Mana went through a bunch of remakes and mobile phone games while Megaman took the Capcom route of re-release tests.

There are so many series that fall by the wayside simply because there's nobody inside the company seriously pushing for a new game.

I was playing MM11 the other day and while I really appreciate them trying to do a bit more with the story and Light/Wily's pasts, I don't like how it was just Light going "we should give robots brains" and Wily going "okay but what if we made them overpowered". It feels sort of shallow and silly and they didn't need to tie the game's Double Gear gimmick into arguably one of the most important events of the past.

I feel like I was saying that halfway because Ariga's take on Wily and Light's past was far better. They worked on the idea of advanced robots with souls together, and Wily felt good to finally have someone who understood him and operated on his level. Because of this it hurts so much more that they separated, with Light gaining all the recognition. I like that a lot better than Wily getting assmad because he thought overclocking robots would somehow outdo giving them independent thought.

There's no level ranks or anything in ZX if that's what you mean. If you're playing on Hard you're getting everything the game has to offer, and the only additional challenge is getting the Victories against bosses without hitting their weakpoints. If you've been playing the Zero games like it's your job, ZX/A don't demand much from you.

they can be very helpfull in expert mode you never know when you might need just a tiny item to refil a bit of health i remember back when i played on the ds i beat the final boss with one hp left because an orange that you get almost at the start of the game restored my health just enough to endure a hit while i landed the final blow

You get two handles for the sword. One goes on the sword, the other goes in the pistol (you can see it in the picture). I assume it provides extra power to his pistol which is why his can charge and is better than the other resistance members.

That's why the subweapon's on R+B by default, even though it's so clumsy to play with. It's symbolic for him switching the saber to the buster.

Model kits often have "redundant" parts like that. Like older gundam kits would have a part for a beam saber that was in use and a beam saber stowed away, even if both are meant to be the "same" saber. I figure that's the same, they don't want you to have to pick between between him using the buster or using the saber and having an "incomplete" pistol laying around.

Just finished X6 for my marathon and I have to say, that fucking entire game has some of the most cancerous shit I have ever seen. I did learn a neat trick for High Max though when he has those blocks on the sides of him. If you use a charged Yamato Cannon your charge buster shot can pierce through the blocks, then run up to him and tap him with one of the flying bits around you to hurt him. Makes for a pretty easy fight. The boss at the weapons lab is fucking stupid though, his "weakness" just makes him clone himself every time he gets hit by it, the fuck is up with this game.

I'm enjoying the shit out of this game and improving my rank and performance, but holy shit FUCK those levels in the factory in Z1 with the moving platforms. I have to go above them to grab bombs or pickups, but coming down I can't see them at all. Makes me want to murder everything around me.

I was doing that, but there's one I didn't think you can do it on. Turns out that you can see just the very top of it but it's very tight as you go down and easy to die off of it.

It's not really evil. Yeah it's cruel against Reploids and the Mutos reploids enjoy their jobs a little too much but it's nice to have a setting where the majority of the people aren't evil, where even the bad guys start to doubt their leader and as Elpizo showed how pointless needless aggression is towards a place that could crush you in an instant but tolerates your existence because the problem was always about Energy and not Good Vs Bad.

it's based on hit count not kills and it depends on what attacks you use. You get weapon exp faster by using using double/triple slashes, then charge attacks when you get that. Also you need to do jumping attacks and dashing attacks to unlock the two rolling slash moves, this is separate from combo/charge weapon levels.

Either's fine, the main lure of the new anthology is having some save-state save points, the art galleries, and some remixes. DS Collection already has some audio touch-ups and Mega Man Zero 3's e-Reader cards built in. The only thing you'll miss out on if you play ZX and ZX Advent through a flash-card or something is the MMZ3/MMZ4 bosses that you have to shove a GBA cartridge in for, and you can't circumvent it because ZX loads the relevant sprites and boss data from the actual cartridge.

The ports in Legacy are based on the DS collection. Extras are about the same, including a similar "casual mode", but Legacy has a ghost-racing mode for 12 levels (2 from each game) called Z-Chaser. Legacy also has Save Assist, which can be helpful, touchscreen emulation for ZX/ZXA, and a bunch of wallpaper backgrounds for the emulation if you give a shit about that sort of thing.

It runs extremely well and I'd say is the definitive way to play the games, outside of some tiny gripes like the way the pixels scale.

If you don't mind broken keyboard controls and your PC doesn't hate it then the PC version has the added bonus of letting you mod the game to swap the tracks out with whatever you want (for many this means adding the Remastered/CD tracks).

Where can one get a translated version of Mega Man Gigamix? This scan looks like it's something promising. I liked Wily's speech in it. I wish he was actually like that in the games as well.

Is there a source for that? Simply curious, because those bosses do get new dialogue lines in ZX, so you'd think they're just stored on the ZX cartridge, but the game does the GBA slot check when the game boots.

Unfortunately I kinda got lucky with finding someone had scanned this exact page. Megamix/Gigamix are pretty near-impossible to find in a complete, digital form. I ended up purchasing the officials and reading through them. It was worth it, mind you. Easily my favorite interpretation of the classic series, even above Archie.

I liked X but the games don't establish his character very interestingly due to shafting him in most plotlines in exchange for Zero.

Maverick Hunter X gave him a super solid and well-rounded depiction where he actually got focus as a protagonist, however, and that was where I came to genuinely love him. Shame it didn' t get a sequel.

Maverick Hunter X having some legitimately good voice-work for X and Sigma really helps sell things, I was hopeful it'd continue onto Maverick Hunter X2 to continue the current plotline and probably iron out the stupid stuff (or even just shift focus away from Zero in later games, possibly give things like the Iris storyline more screentime since even Battle Network fleshed out Colonel and Iris better) but apparently MHX and Powered Up didn't do so hot.

Megamix/Gigamix for a reason or another are very scatterbrained online. You can usually find the first chapter of Megamix (MM1 story) easily enough, but Gigamix is where a lot of the good stuff is.

I have the mangas physically myself, and they've recently been doing colored versions of them, which look pretty good too.

No, revisiting areas doesn't mess with your rank.

You can revisit areas and die as much as you want without any risk. Just don't use cyber elves, though satellite elves in Z3 are fair game.

No, rank only goes up or down when you are doing an actual mission.

It seems like if MHX4 had happened I think Zero would have def had the focus shifted off of him outside of the Iris subplot. Zero is already reduced to side character status in MHX1 - his relationship with X is far more equal-grounds instead of "someday you'll reach my level", Sigma's villainy is not connected to Zero having a virus in the slightest, and Zero is even shown being bad at things, like the shooting practice in the OVA. The one thing of significance he does that plays him up is his sacrifice. I would have liked to see how the other games would play out with X as more of a centerpiece.

Doesn't help that none of the game besides the X1 remake make any nod to X being special in any way. Just to Zero's "hidden" potential though to be fair the earlier games weren't really about reploids being super prototypes beyond X's intro. The bias is incredibly obvious later on though, Zero this and Zero that.

I quite liked Zero being shown as bad at shooting, it gives him a narrative reason for shifting over to a saber suddenly.
