Metal Gear Solid 5 is half a decade old

And its still the most unintended, ironically perfect title for a sequel. "The Phantom Pain". Looking back i still think of so many good points like Kaz's speech about his phantom limb pain, quiets theme, the opening -first time around at least- and it feels so nostalgic after spending so many hours 100%'ing that game compared to beating MGS1 in like 5 hours and feeling satisfied.

But of course then you remember all the design problems. Kojima chasing the open world meme for its own sake, crashing the budget with no survivors and basically trying to make a continuity error a massive twist everyone guessed on release.

Personally i will always prefer Peace Walker of the two since mechanically they are different levels of complexity but two peas in the same pod design wise. But PW was simpler and more effective while its story was fundamentally important. MGS3's ending is why Jack Became Big Boss and PW's is when it happens. When that tortured man saluting a grave and gets uncomfortable being called 'Boss' finally hits his turning point and that felt like a big deal fans didn't appreciate because it was a PSP game. But for all the good in it MGSV felt like a worse version of all its systems with even worse bloat than MGS4.

Now its been half a decade and its had time to cool off what do you think of MGSV? Is it still better to leave off the series with BB and Snake in the graveyard at the end of 4 and just pretend 5 never happened?

Tldr but it was ok

I'M

I went to replay this game recently, just to give it another go from scratch, and that’s how I learned you can’t start a new game. I don’t really remember anything at all about it anymore.

good game but god damn if I'll ever let myself be fooled again by trailers.

you could always delete your save file from where its stored, at least on the pirated version

delete your file numbnuts

i was actually thinking about this yesterday and frankly yeah, i'm willing to completely discard peace walker and mgsv since rather than explaining anything they just add more fucking bullshit to the franchise
would rather portable ops be canon than that shit desu
gameplay was fun, but ground zeroes still did it much better

Still hurts a little. I tried Metal Gear Survive and it was a fun budget release (and included a lot of shit that ended up in Death Stranding so i totally believe it started life under Kojima as his "i want to make the zombie game" MGO pve section that was cut during budget bloating) but it was missing something.
It must feel so weird for younger people but i grew up on Konami games like MGS and Silent Hill and sure nothing lasts forever and most media ends mediocre and run into the ground long after it should have finished but Metal Gear was a part of my life since my dad played an import of the original game when i was like 3 years old. To be reminded its just gone and never coming back is its own phantom pain i guess.

You feel it too, don't you?

The thing I've always hated about the Metal Gear games is you're given all these creative ways to kill people yet you're punished for it.

It was faster to delete the game.

The trouble is even chronologically Revengeance is the end of the timeline. It should have ended in that graveyard. That was a wonderful reveal.

and how fucked is it younger people can only experience it by finding a PS3 copy which given the rumours of some pre 2007 blu rays having far worse disc rot rate than CD,DVD or current blu rays as sony rushed them out to beat HDDVD to the consumer mass market that eventually its just going to be gone. But V is on shit like steam and will be around forever by comparison.

ok retard
to be fair 4 is a piece of shit game and the story is a fucking mess, the graveyard part was incredibly stupid in retrospect, but it blew my 17 year old mgs-fanboy mind at the time
still, it does so much more than mgsv even attempted to do, imagine if V had had the AI at war around you like in the first two stages of 4, i used to dick around in those for hours supporting guerillas or pmcs and seeing if it actually changed anything, or running around with the camera playing war photographer
also its in a playable state on rpcs3 now i think, so its not completely lost

I will shit on the stupid stuff with BB showing up with zero as much as the next guy but having Big Boss dying in front of Snake and saying "I never saw you as a son, but i respected you as a soldier" and basically seeing each other in a fucked up way as the bothers neither truly had in an emotional sense was a really touching way to wrap up a series that for all its shootbang mecha action moments was about avoiding conflict.

> included a lot of shit that ended up in Death Stranding
Like what?

That's the point.

You're a fucking retard. Phantom Pain sucked ass.

Wow almost like we've found a million good ways to kill one another and we're still looking for a good reason to do it :)

off the top of my head?
>Military experiments lead to destruction of the world but via nanomachines that resurrect the dead
>Stamina meter and have to eat and drink to top it up
>Large sections of the map where fog/sandstorms corrode everything and rain down 'dread dust' particles to fuck up technology you need to get through
>Ability to drop down and 3d print in real time things like bridges, fences and things to climb with
>People are stranded after an event opens a door between two worlds
>Collecting abandoned items left behind by other stranded people that came before you to craft and upgrade gear.

Theres a lot more, its been like 2 years or more at this point but Kojima was saying on twitter "i want to make the zombie game" during V's development and the similarities are just too similar right down to the back guy looking like a good guy but secretly in his past inadvertently causing it all to happen.

Gay ass game for boring ass bitches

it could have been great.

And both DS and Survive are pure garbage.

DS has some good moments. Its just clearly a game made with time constraints. You can feel when the map ran out of time after mountain knot city, things like the jellyfish BT's hint at a much more varied ecosystem than ghosts you can one shot with a gold knife and that shit with Amelie was atrociously bad.

But then you have moments of infastructure pornography where you line a mountain with Zip Lines to make a once ardous, resource heavy trek a 20 second roller coaster ride or scenes like Diehardmans admission to killing Sams father.

The real trouble is Kojima is literally the Garth Marenghi "Subtlety is for cowards!" joke but real.
