There is zero depth to make the gameplay feel fun. It looks pretty and it sounds great but it feels empty compared to the original.

The demo itself is alright, but obviously missing pretty major things to mess around with like the open world, materia/equipment, etc.

Interesting combat system. I think barret needs more things going on with his gameplay and needs some way to vary up his basic attacks tho. Just holding down square is boring and why you can mash square with cloud he actually has various attacks using his basic attack button + can switch modes for different combos

The combat and tone of the game were some of my biggest concerns.

The combat feels like what I expected out of FFXV, it's engaging and not auto-pilot, it expects you to be paying attention, blocking/evading, being aware of your position while managing your team. The Scorpion fight was overwhelming for me but I stuck with it and figured it out and it felt good.

The tone is more anime than I would've liked and I have a hard time deciding if that's 'right' or not, considering how goofy the game can be at times. I was expecting it to play it even more straight, not be as cheesey/hammy but when I was playing and hearing Barret/Cloud banter I was into it which was surprising.

I'll like it more than the original because it doesn't use the shit ATB system.

I enjoyed it but I'm more interested in playing the current build of the game. This demo is like a year old.

Fun but kinda worried about how repetitive that combat will be. There isn't enough attack strings or special inputs, and I could see it getting old within the first 4 hours even because you get playable Cloud, Barrett, Tifa and Aerith within that span.

Same here. Some aren't too keen on the orchestral "Those Who Fight Further" for the Scorpion Sentinel, but the Air Buster boss footage confirms that the rock version is back as well.

Looks great, sounds great, this blend of action and rpg elements is perfect for modern FF7, I love that the command mode lets you stop time, scan the data on the enemies, and look all over. No complaints except for the unneeded bomb retcon.

I was worried about the fact that the ATB fills faster with the character you're controlling, and after playing I think I was right to worry.
Barret having an overcharge that gives him more ATB kinda fixes it, but I wish I could tell the AI to use it on its own. I wonder if all the other playable characters are going to get their own version of an ATB catch-up.

I also wish the game prompted me when the ATB finished filling.

Yeah you can adjust the camera during and out of combat. Default is the closest possible with there being 2 levels above it

So, there's something interesting about the ATB party switching combat in VIIRE. It's not XV based... obviously, because these games play nothing alike. What it is, is the game Nomura said he wanted to make Versus XIII. Like if you go back and watch those trailers and read those interviews, the game he's describing is this game.

I was pleasantly surprised how much i enjoyed it, will probably play on hard mode as i do agree that combat felt quite easy.

It was pretty good. The Spider tank is actually somewhat difficult compared to the original game and I like the fact that the combat is sort of a mix of hack and slash and turn based combat. I'll be picking it up.

Fight against scorpion was hectic, and it felt like it demanded good positioning and an eye on health and mp.

One of FF7's most important qualities was the foreshadowing, plot pacing, and character dynamics. Nomura has shown time and time again that he has absolutely no talent whatsoever with those characteristics, on top of no interest in deferring to better people on the matter, so I'm not going to spend $60 + DLC + multiple parts on a game by a person who doesn't make things I enjoy.

It's way above my expectations, but that's mostly because I had very little faith in Square Enix to begin with.

I just completed the demo a few hours ago. My only issue with the demo is that it was way easier than I thought it was going to be, yet, it was a good and decent experience. The controls for the camera and general movement were intuitive and not overtly sensitive and the combat mechanics was enjoyable as well (slipping in-between the Punisher and Operator Modes for Cloud was extremely streamlined and satisfying).

I was pleasantly surprised with the combat. The scorpion mech offered some resistance and there was decent mechanics in place. As for regular enemies, they're pretty much cakewalk, the only exception being shock troops and their bullshit invincibility flips.

Yep, it's still great. I'll never forget my days playing it for the first time on my little CRT while my other TV played Showtime at the Apollo obnoxiously because we couldn't get cable. Make sure you watch Showtime at the Apollo for the full authentic experience.

My opinion is that Final Fantasy 7 didn't need a remake, and no one is going to be completely satisfied with this one.

They really weren't though. They wanted Sephiroth dead because having a giant fucking meteor decimate all life on the planet isn't in Shinra's best interests. Shinra ends when Rufus gets blown the fuck up by Diamond, at least until worthless Advent Children decides to retcon it.

Definitely yeah, my friend got me to play it last month and it was a blast. The fast pacing of the game really helped it.

It's fine. The real-time/ATB compromise isn't as interesting as it was pitched to me, just feels like a decent ARPG.

I realized earlier this morning that I don't think the demo is going to mean much to me when it comes to whether or not I will buy the game. I played the demo for FF15. I liked it a lot, so I bought it, then FF15 became one of the worst games that I've ever beaten. Even earlier than that, I waited on FF13 for years. I looked up reviews and gameplay that both praised and trashed the game. Then I finally bought it for myself, for like $10, and it was one of the worst games I've ever played. I will wait the decade plus years for the entire game/saga to be released and then and only then will I decide if I want to buy it. I have no interest in episodic games, and I honestly have no interest in FF7 since I didn't like it when I played it on PS1. I don't think it's a bad game, but probably just not for me.

All the bosses after Guard Scorpion apparently require beating by utilize some specific aspect of the battle system. They say Abzu requires a certain attack to stun lock him out of a special move that can basically one shot your party, and some new unspecified boss in chapter 2 that Cloud encounters when trying to rendezvous with Avalanche (only described as an "elite captain-type enemy" due to non-disclosure agreements, so probably Roche) will parry any normal attack you throw at him. It's pretty much all but certain you can't sleepwalk through this game on classic mode like some anons are trying to claim.

Let's say I'm an anonymous poster here on Yea Forums and say stripping away your weapons and group to artificially lengthen the game is cheap like I tweeted when FF15 came out.

As a fellow Aussie, the fact that Barry has been doing this for years shocked me. Up until recently, I thought the idea of someone like Barry seemed ridiculous compared to what I saw on bulletin boards back then, but little prepared me for the horror I daw through the archives.

I liked the demo. Mob fights seem disproportionately easy while boss fights seem disproportionately hard, though that might not be a problem in the full release. It's pretty basic all things considered but if it can do that one thing well then I can see it being a lot of fun. Hopefully the main game incentivizes switching characters often, otherwise the combat will grow stale pretty quickly.

Just finished it. It's hilarious how they put a "pre-order" game option in your pause menu and then when you finish the demo they straight up ask you to pick which version you're buying like it's not even a question. Overall it was kind of neat. I've played a good amount of FF games but I'm not really huge on them anymore but this was pretty much what I expected. The combat was alright, I would need to play much more to really get a better feel for it and figure out the nuances. This was more like a tiny taste of it. I never played XV but I played the demo for that and this feels kind of similar with it's auto tracking and "magnetic" combo tracking. It's sort of a weird blend of action and turn-based. Honestly I would've liked it if they pushed it towards action a little more and I say that as someone who enjoys both pure action games as well as slow turn based rpgs.

What's sad is that the 20 minute demo actually felt less empty than the entirety of that 15 hour long game.

I only felt it got ridiculous that it had so many attacks that can knock you out of attack range and the fact that it'd go through the cycle within 2 minutes.
