No but its never going to be more than what it is unless they do a full on overhaul that might/will piss existing players off. So its existing fanbase vs new players and potentially better long term designs.
I would start with overhauling/replcing the 3 classes. They are slightly different flavors of the same shit, with the super being the only real noticeable difference between playing them.

I picked up Destiny 2 when it came out on PC (Never played the original), and was excited to play a sci-fi FPS mmo lite space game, yet it felt so empty and never played it again after a week or two. I started playing again when it came out on Steam but while it feels like a lot has been improved, it still feels really empty and not a lot to do.

No, Destiny is much worse. There was a lot of bizarre shit written for Minotaur, Pathways, Marathon, Myth, and even Halo, and they had more of a fascination with AI and quirky game mechanics then, and had a lot more in the way of easter eggs and secrets. Destiny has none of it.

The player mechanics and controls feel really great as well. I'd say the gunplay is great too but to me gunplay is tied into enemy design and that's pretty weak in Destiny, so it could be better.

The story is awful. It's extremely derivative and doesn't even thematically utilize the MMO aspect of the game. You don't even see the other guys in your fireteam in the in-game rendered cutscenes, it's like the writers don't know what game they're writing for.
I absolutely would. It's a beautiful game, it had some amazing lore tucked away in other sources, and I love RPGs, FPSs, co-op games and sci-fi in general. But everything right now is a grind for grinding's sake, it's heavily funneled and the story is boring.

Oh yeah, that certainly helps a lot. Instead of just getting my dogroll BF by crafting or buying it within reasonable time, I need to run the same shitty quest and activity over and over again. Season passes, cosmetics, and most importantly, their endless bullshit. 6 years since Destiny 1 released and it has not improved in any significant way at all. All these unique weapons and armor, but nothing fun to use them in. All these story campaigns and strikes, but the PvE is bland overall and only really worth experiencing once. Crucible has had no real enhancements to speak of. This is pure games-as-a-service crap and you're eating it all up while smiling.
